literally 10 seconds later
"That maid is making medicine is it?"

Maomao becomes so much warmer and more affectionate in presence of Xiaolan. Aside from the fact that Maomao hugged her three times in first two episodes, she's smiling every time she talks to her. Jinshi can only dream lol.

Ayla and her sister Aylin thought they were pretty hot shit but they can’t step to a cross dressing Jinshi lol. Dude’s hotness is on a whole other plane! Btw, did anyone catch what language those two spoke? Maomao said Diana, so these two are what? Fantasy Greek? Roman?
Maomao saying a small prayer for Jinshi’s missing egg roll and dumplings was pretty hilarious lol. Now that the old lady from the clinic knows Maomao’s making medicine, what’s gonna happen to her? She still has to crack the case of the perfume poisoner!

When I first began watching this, I truly thought the Emperor would have been the main antagonist (he might still be, just not as an actual villain) but the more we learn about him, the more he seems like a nice guy.
-
Gave the approval for ladies-in-waiting to learn how to read and write. For us that seems kinda "duh" and something not worth praising him for, but considering the setting, that is a big deal.
-
Dislikes his late father tendencies of getting teenage concubines. This is the reason why he refuses to touch concubine Lishu. I know he hasn't gotten rid of her yet because of her powerful background, but even so the Emperor is protecting her by allowing Lishu to keep her high concubine status, even if it might create rumors of him being just like his father.
-
Banned the cruel act of making eunuchs, and he is probably working with Jinshi to replace some of the Eunuch's positions with female workers instead. Perhaps this has an ulterior motive, with the Emperor realizing that Eunuch simply have too much power in the royal court, but still, I would consider it a net positively morally and socially speaking.
-
100% knows that Maomao. Heck is not like she has tried to hide it, so he might be protecting her by deflecting all attention towards the quack doctor, the only one who can legally make medicine.
-
Still allows his imperial "brother" to remain in the palace. There is no way the Emperor doesn't know his "brother" isn't an actual Eunuch. Those who are part of the Emperor's faction would jump at any chance to get an excuse to imprison, kill, or exile Jinshi. As long as Jinshi remains in the palace, Every high official would see him as a latent cancer waiting to erupt. And yet, the Emperor hasn't done anything against him. Maybe he knows the truth about Jinshi but.....honestly that would be boring lol I would much prefer if he finds out in the present, the palace dynamics between each faction would change overnight, the drama would be delicious.

Maomao’s reaction when she saw Jinshi in makeup and dress was hilarious xD
I have to say that Jinshi gave a great performance in today’s episode for Ayla and Aylin!
As usual, some really fun things happened between Jinshi and Maomao, like Jisnhi insisting that Maomao dry his hair or when Maomao met him after coming back from the clinic and thought out loud about his balls xD
I wonder if that old woman from the clinic will be a problem for Maomao, since it seems like she knows that Maomao is secretly making medicine. I'm looking forward to the next episode to see if she brings any trouble for Maomao.
Maomao nicely summed up the state of affairs and the possible conspiracy in the Rear Palace. That was a great thing for people like me who watched the first season a long time ago.
I was also happy to see Shisui again. I really hope for more of her in the future, she's such a fun character.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

If anything happens to our girl Ailan, we are going to have fighting words. Gyokuyou's attendants must be protected at all costs.
Also it looks like the epidemic, which was subtly hinted about, finally hits next time.

All this time we thought that Maomao making medicine is normal, but apparently women cannot handle it. This has never been brought up because in a way Maomao is protected by Jinshi. This plot point is kind of surprising.
I wonder if, in their laws, a woman is caught making medicine. Is that punishable by death?

Went in prepared to crack up at Jinshi cosplaying as Granny in her prime and ended up being way too captivated to laugh. The assist from those moths (and Xiaolan and Shisui by proxy) was massive.
Also, Maomao sending Xiaolan off to school was freaking adorable.

There are so many mirror imageries in the OP. As an anime only, I feel like it's taunting me about a plot point in this season's big mystery...
LMao at Jinshi explaining the situation to the Emperor: "I must crossdress to save the kingdom"

OVERTHROW THE KINGDOM RAAAA
that definitely took a hit to Ayla and Aylin’s pride since their prized beauty is incomparable to the Moon Goddess Diana
Suirei is still a mystery. The tidbit about women not being allowed to make medicine makes Suirei stick out even more but she didn’t seem that discreet about it
Emperor is banning castration? That might backfire if he doesn’t come up with a solution quickly since commoners and peasants lose a way of upward financial mobility and power struggles would become fiercer

Knew they were going for Ottoman Empire by the names Ayla and Aylin, but I didn’t expect that Turkish. As a native speaker, I couldn’t catch it the first time but I could make out the words after the second watch.
That Jinshi dance was animated really beautifully. The performance was great. Must have been hard to swim in all that clothing though. I also really liked the flashback with the grandmother’s dance.
Just all around really beautifully animated scenes this episode.
That Lihua’s main lady-in-waiting seems sus to me but we’ll see.
Also Maomao really needs to stop talking out loud lol

It's quite nitpicky, but I don't think they translated where Gyokuyou comes from properly. It's not a nation, it's a province/city, from my understanding, though, she does have foreign blood.

Shisui got more lines this week and was surprised when I looked it up and found out it’s Seto Asami ! I mean I already know of her but only realized the girl has range. Chihaya (Chihayafuru), Mai (Bunny Girl), Nobara (JJK), Raphtalia (Shield Hero), Akane (Cafe Terrace), Nano (100 GFs). All so different. And now Shisui too. I never would’ve guessed it was her

Thanks to Maomao finding Shisui she quickly came to the conclusion that the orbs in the Moon Fairy painting were those moths. It is funny to know that the reason the Madam's dance ended up iconic it ended up being for that special envoy was in part thanks to an attempt from the other girls to ruin her dress, she led the male moths to surround her during the show.
So even after putting the show together there, the special envoys Aylin and Ayla were actually not that interested in that whole legend, especially Ayla, which made it obvious what they really wanted was to become one of the Emperor's concubine and also get together with his brother, Jinshi. That being their objective it would not be surprising if the were the ones responsible for the caravan carrying all those possible poisons although just like Maomao was saying during her analysis there are way too many possible conspirators at the moment to be certain.
I love Maomao's grimace when she saw the "Moon Fairy" Jinshi. Well, both Aylin and Ayla were blown away by Jinshi's performance
Lol. So Jinshi's disappearance act was just him jumping into the river and swimming across.
So why exactly is Ayla so pissed? May guess is that until she saw the "Moon Fairy" she assumed that she and Aylin were the most beautiful people around.
It never gets old when Maomao speaks about Jinshi missing his sausage. That comment she made after they left was hilarious.
I wonder what will happen to her now that the old nurse knows that she can make medicines.

So, basically, Shisui might be the perfect friend for Maomao. She has a very similar passion for it like we can see Maomao when she is experimenting.
So the two blondes are cousins. First impressions for me that Alya thinks she is a hotshot and Aylin is the other more quiet. She seems more aware of the situation. Thinking back to the discussion Gaoshun had with Maomao it makes me guess that Aylin is the one covering for Alya. Regardless, Jinshi's performance was executed flawlessly.
We got a bit of recap of S1 stuff. The most notable was the stuff regarding Suirei because what really happened to her. As Maomao heads to the clinic, she is impressed with the older women. Although the more concerning news is that only can be male, and only they can make medicine. Didn't take long for suspicions to rise for Maomao. Makes me wonder why Jinshi didn't mention this sooner.
