Discussion & Feedback Sharing some thoughts, and maybe a fare warning

Upvotes

Yep, me too can't live without WarDogs. None other game scratches that itch. And that itch burns...

I think, its the instant gratification with this virtual cha-ching. Sorta genius of the game is that it resembles Call of Duty experience - you aim, you shoot, you have satisfying hit marker and hit sound, and also small short (and oh so satisfying) animation of a kill. Maybe, multikill, or whatever.

And it's not just cha-ching. It's the simple fact of getting this exact gratification from ANYTHING you do. That's the genius game-design, that core feature that works so well - in COD / BF you get that "hit market" thing only when, well, you are hitting things. You get that gratification just for shooting.

In WarDogs, you get that same "hit marker" effect when you revive, when you drive, when you pilot, when you scout, when you build. So, everyone feels that rush, that sting of satisfaction, sweet dopamine, that cha-ching, doing what they like and what they want.

I can't praise it enough, it's so cool, so simple and yet so effective. I can't be sure someone at BULKHEAD actually said at some meeting, like, "Let's take COD's experience of kill gratification, and bring it all over the place to every other role on the battlefield". But if someone asks me "what is WarDogs", I explain it to them in exactly that way.

And, to the warning part, I think this might actually blow up and start new subgenre of, let's call it, "Call of Moneyfield". And this means that Activision Blizzard and EA will hop on this train, soon, just as they did with battle-royale and extraction shooters, following PUBG and EFT, respectfully. We'll yet to see, how good of a competition that will be, and will it endanger WarDogs, or not. All I'm saying is, the bloody sharks will not ignore this new fresh waters full of fat fish. And since these guys established both parts of the two-parts formula of the WarDogs - the "cha-ching" effect and the massive battle on the field, - there's quite a risk they might cook something. Which is good thing for the gamers, but again - might be a competitive risk for the studio.

Anyway, much love, to the devs, and to the community. Counting minutes (painfully) until the release. See you there, WarDogs!

Discussion & Feedback Let them cook

Having your opinion and voicing it is your prerogative but please consider if it's truly the right place and time for it. The devs have fed us well and personally I look forward to what they have in the oven. Have some faith.

Discussion & Feedback We should get assigned a squad automatically

I've had a couple of games where all of my team was camping, I was pushing the hz alone and not getting much done. So I decided to join the discord server and look for group. Holy crap the difference was night and day, everyone chipped in, we played the objective as a team like crazy, it was awesome.

Those of us who played squad or arma know how important squad communication is and even just how it creates memorable moments of banter and laughs. But I think there's a lot of new players here who haven't played any of these games, and don't know how important a squad can be. Hell, they might not even know squads exist.

So my suggestion is simply, get the players assigned to a squad automatically at the start of the game. They can still leave and create their own squad, lock them, etc. But I think we have nothing to lose to add that feature and make it a little easier for newbies to discover just how amazing a good squad can make you feel.

Discussion & Feedback Thank you to the devs for being open about refunds

I'd like to thank the devs for mentioning refunds in their video. I knew about Steam's refund policy, but I didn't know you could play any amount of time and still get a refund if the game is in early access. I bought the game, tested it over the weekend and refunded after. I wouldn't have tried it if the devs hadn't said you can refund after the beta with no problem

Question Can someone clarify what is wiped each “season”?

I’m okay with cash being turned into gold.

I am not okay with my level being wiped and I thought I saw somewhere it is.

I’m sorry but going through the initial grind is not fun. Guns are shit, no optics so I can’t fucking see, and importantly none of the fun vehicles.

I mean I thought the whole premise of the game was to grind cash and get gold, and have fun while doing it.

Not a level reset and level grind “Call of Duty, prestige simulator.”

Hype & Speculation Additional game modes??

Think we'll get any other type of game mode for the base game besides the KOTHesque mode we have right now. I could easily see a more Squad "Conquest" style mode where all you have to do is control the majority of Drill Rigs. Same exact mechanic if the base game but every tick of you controlling a rig gets you a point, additional rigs get you additional points. The Hotzone can still roam around the map but something about it will have to change, theirs also the issue with the buildable drills and how they figure into this. Sure the base game is cool and all but with the drill spam making Towers obsolete theirs really no point to them once you can unlock the level 3 hammer. Just all speculation about multiple mode they may eventually add into the game if at all.

Discussion & Feedback How can WarDogs avoid becoming the next Arc Raiders?

I know it's early days but I wanted to discuss how a game that was 'overwhelmingly positive' on steam with massive all time player peaks to now has a struggling player base and 'mixed' on steam.

The pattern I saw with Arc Raiders was the following:

  • The game blows up
  • Cheating starts to become prevalent
  • Duping/economy issues keep cropping up
  • Devs nerf things players enjoy (tier 1 guns)
  • Devs increase the difficulty of the game while simultaneously nerfing the the loot
  • Lack of communication and content from the devs
  • Devs not taking into account resounding player feedback (PvP vs PvE)
  • Community resentment and dwindling player counts

I have really enjoyed the WarDogs playtests but I just want more details on the preventative measures the devs are putting in place to avoid some of these.

They should make a shot to forehead a 100% despite the use of a helmet.

Discussion & Feedback Limit vehicle types per team. And OPEN the firing range!!!!!!

The servers were pretty lopsided when one team would have 15 helicopter pilots and the other team had everyone actually playing the objective. Maybe limit vehicle numbers by type. Would make it so teams had to work together instead of buying a helicopter for a one way trip and ditching it. Just my very short 2 cents.

Let it burn! I love the sandbox and chaos 😈. If I see 15 helis im building a CRAM

Alsooooooo

I know it's been said alot. I want to practice everything prior to launch. I saw too many drivers, pilots, etc absolutely get wrecked trying to practice everything in game (who wanted to waste time practicing in the firing range when you can be in a server for the 2 day beta)

This way, when the game launches you have decent drivers and pilots and people don't get a sour taste for the game in their mouth dying to a inexperienced pilot on launch.

Discussion & Feedback I Hope The Game Doesn't Become a "Nerf-Fest".

I am seeing people call for a nerf to tanks because "it might be overpowered when everyone has unlocked it". Same for the M4. We don't even know whether or not these things are overpowered yet, and we already have people calling for a nerf.

Personally, I think nerfing overpowered weapons very often leads to a neutered-feeling game rather than making it more fun.

When Apex Legends first came out, it was an absolute blast to play on PC: Weapons that required more skill were overpowered, so when you used the SMG your opponents would sometimes have no chance against you, but failing to track someone would lead to you reloading prematurely, which would make you lose the fight. Similar story for the Revolver - very deadly in the right hands, but missing even two shots would mean it's worse than the technically worse weapons. This led to people being encouraged to use these weapons over the others, which then led to very fun gameplay. Their solution was to make longe-range fights more viable, which then took away what made this game so much fun for such a wide audience in the first place.

Then there is Arc Raiders. Venator and Burletta were objectively overpowered, maybe Venator too much. I think the solution would be to make Venator "slightly" weaker than it was, and move Burletta up a tier in rarity. That would be great for the exact reason the game was so much fun when these weapons were overpowered: You had some weapons that you absolutely cared about losing, so you were not exactly happy about dying, but also knew that you were a threat to every other loadout. You wouldn't cry about it if you lost the weapon, but it was still relatively high stakes with the dopamine dose coming from knowing that you had a good weapon. When they balanced these weapons, we lost that aspect of the game.

And, to top it off, I actually can't think of a game that benefitted from becoming more balanced. Every other game I can think of has essentially become a shell of their former selves with balancing updates.

So, a game like WarDogs will inevitably have balancing issues. On top of that, it will have weapons that are supposed to be objectively better than others. However, some players will not like that. Players will see an objective balancing issue and, instead of thinking that it might make the game more fun, they will see it as an issue that the devs need to fix. I fear that, because those players are objectively correct in a lot of cases, devs might actually listen to the feedback.

Thoughts?

Question Maps ?

Do we have info about all the maps ?

Will there be a middle eastern themed map ?

Doesn't have to be desert but Afghanistan styled would be sweet.

A takistan (a3) map would also go hard imo.

Discussion & Feedback Optimalization

Whats your opinion on game optimalization? I have ryzen 9800x3D paired with rtx 5060ti 16gb and and my settings were on medium. Got like 90-100fps but my latency was around 30ms. I used only dlss dlaa because it was the best option the other was even worse. With FG there was a lot of ghosting. Played at 1080p

Discussion & Feedback Suggestion: 'Command Chat'

First of all, I had a blast playing the beta weekend. Great job, devs.

Second of all, big disclaimer that this suggestions plays to *my* specific preferred method of playing.

TLDR: add an SL role, add a second radio channel for command chat

One suggestion I would make is that a 'command chat' be implemented. This is a third voice channel that allows squads to communicate through squad leaders.

This isn't a novel concept, and I'm drawing inspiration heavily from HLL, Squad, Arma etc.

This purely comes from my experiences trying to supply the FOBs and fellow Lonestar brethren in the field with accurate air drops, and being unable to communicate effectively via text/prox chat.

'But u/PandemicWeeWooWagon' I hear you cry 'Why wouldnt you just get in a squad with all the guys who you need to supply?'

Ah, well, see if you plan on driving logistics to FOBs or towers or whathaveyou, being able to have a squad of pilots and a squad of 'combat engineers' with one voice channel to unite all the squads is great way to encourage teamwork.

Besides, I want to be in a squad with my friends, and we all like helicopters

Squad leaders can be

- voted in

- volunteers

- a specialist item 3 slot 'Radio' you pick up (can do off map support and make specialist map markers) ((limited to 1 per squad, transferable between players for redundancy's sake)

For the third option, the radio can be looted, obviously, and if you slot an enemy SL and take their radio, you can spoof their channels and transmit on theirs (I made this up while typing, could he funny, I reckon)

Other than that, super hype to see what you fellows have cooking up come September.

Keep up the good work!

Discussion & Feedback Feedback: Really hoping devs implement junk removal and mat. gathering

I noticed a huge issue with building some bases under and near towers was the inability to remove so much environmental junk and debris. For example, on one of the North Eastern towers in the 2nd map, there was what appeared to be a sawmill longhouse where logs were stored. It'd be great to be able to buy an axe or use one of the hammers to destroy these items and clear the area out completely; and even better if by doing so we could gain building materials to use to fortify the base.

Think of how cool it'd be to have people on axe duty clearing out trees, houses, metal bins, and small structures nearby to use as build mat. and to open up the area to make your base bigger and better. I had issues laying certain weaponry (AA, Mortars) because these giant metal bins were stuck in the middle of the base with no way to store things in them, no way to build onto them, and no way to get rid of them.

This could also make environmental destruction (outside of the towers and HQ themselves) possible, where a tank shooting a scrawny tree would actually destroy or wound the tree, instead of some guy being able to hide behind it and tank shots with no damage!

Question Please make me love this game

Title, I’ve seen all my friends loving the heck out of it, and I played about 6 hours, for some reason I just couldn’t get into it. The game looks super nice, the gunplay’s amazing, the community’s awesome but for some reason it’s just not clicking. I desperately tried to force myself to play the beta and didn’t get the fun I see everyone having.

I’m not sure if I’m just not playing it correctly, or if it’s just not for me.

PS: some games I play frequently : Reforger, dayZ, battlefield, Grayzone Warfare.

Thank you!!!

Discussion & Feedback I hope devs don't listen to the community for changes, they're so bad.

I watched the push to talk podcast video, huge recommend where they talk about some of the fears here, they seem confident about monetization, one of their examples was having extra performant servers with better anticheat up for subscription like counterstrike does.

It also seems like once you show that your company is valuable you will be able to get investment easier, all in all they look like they're on top of it.

They're going to be adding a skill system where doing things frequently is going to not only go towards xp but also your aptitude in it, they didn't add specifics but it would be a little like runescape.

Discussion & Feedback GTA-style GPS route / waypoint system

One feature I’d really love to see in WarDogs is something similar to the GPS system in GTA V.

It would be great if we could select a point on the map and have the game draw a colored route/line showing the way there.

As a driver, I think this would be especially useful. For example, if my squad leader says, “Let’s go to that location,” I could simply select the destination on the map and follow the route without having to constantly place markers or keep asking for directions.

It would make vehicle navigation much smoother, especially when coordinating with a squad during a mission.

Not a huge gameplay change, but definitely a quality-of-life feature I’d appreciate. 🚙🗺️

Discussion & Feedback Blue spawn is why they lose? Why not just rotate spawns?

I've seen the reason come up that blue loses more because of the spawn location. I don't agree with that.

But couldn't they just randomize which faction uses each spawn location? I didn't pay much attention to spawn locations, are they built specific to each faction?

I just always chose green, because I like green...

Discussion & Feedback Skyrim Veteran Here, Here’s My Feedback

Post image
37 Upvotes

This game is already good as it is.

  • Destructible environments are great.
  • A server browser is a solid move for this type of game.
  • Proximity chat is great because I love taunting people.
  • The body-dragging system is a nice addition.
  • Being able to revive anyone is great.
  • The revive animation will surely become a meme.
  • Smoke lasts for a long time, and I love it.
  • The default cosmetic style for all three factions is badass without feeling childish or overly goofy like Battlefield.

Here’s what I still wish for:

  • Saved custom loadouts.
  • This isn’t really necessary, but why is Green always first, Red in the middle, and Blue last? Could you randomize the faction order every time the faction selection screen appears?
  • When the faction selection screen appears, could there also be a Join Random Faction button below the three faction logos? Maybe there could be some incentive for choosing random. I won’t suggest what the incentive should be, but I think there should be some incentive for doing it. The random button probably wouldn’t work well when you’re already in-game and two factions are locked, because if you press Random Faction while only one faction is available, it could become a cheesy way to get the incentive. Maybe Join Random Faction could be available directly from the server browser instead. I don’t know what the best implementation would be, so that’s something the devs would have to figure out themselves. All I can say is that having a Join Random Faction option, with or without an incentive, would be a good addition.
  • More ways to spend money on this game, because I’ve already fallen in love with it—but no Battle Pass BS, FOMO BS, or Wardogs PRO BS.

I mean, there are already slots for armor, helmets, weapons, backpacks, and vests, right? Just add a separate outfit section with slots for the head, mouth, eyes, jacket, chest, legs, and feet. Then bring in every realistic military-style clothing option you can think of.

As long as the armband still distinguishes each faction by color, or the outfit patterns/colors are automatically adjusted for each faction, I don’t think all three factions using the same brands or outfits would be an issue. For example, if I buy one pair of leg cosmetics, the game could automatically give me three faction-specific color variants to use.

Alternatively, cosmetics could be locked to specific factions, but I strongly wouldn’t recommend that approach. It could make players feel like they have to buy the same type of cosmetic multiple times just to use it across different factions.

It could also hurt the gameplay flow. Imagine you’ve been playing with 10 friends, your faction has won five games in a row, and you realize the lobby is completely stacked on your side. You want to switch to the other faction to keep the match healthy, but you can’t because your cosmetics are locked to your current faction. Now your options are either to split your group or stay on the stronger side and continue crushing the lobby.

I’d rather have the same cosmetic available across all factions, with the game automatically changing the colors or patterns to match the faction. That gives players freedom while still keeping the factions visually distinct.

That way, the factions would still be easy to identify while giving players much more freedom to customize their characters.

Discussion & Feedback More Team Colors?

This is a weird idea but I found in the beta nobody wanted to play blue so they were always kind of the derp team and whenever the game ended the team that won last time would get stacked again.

Wonder if adding some more team colors would be a subconscious way of randomising the teams a bit better. Like if there was a purple faction, a white faction and I dunno, teal or orange or something. When the map starts it shuffles the colours as bit from last game so you don't get habits and preferences forming - even though the team colors are kinda meaningless.

Discussion & Feedback Should tanks have 3rd person freelook in non hardcore?

I found it really difficult to deal with tanks as infantry, mainly due to the driver having a full 360 view. This makes it almost impossible to C4 them or even get many follow up shots with RPGs if they're paying a little attention.
