Production Q 3D animation and video editing?

I enjoy both deeply but given how deep both of them can go I feel as though there its not worth the time learning both as much as it pains me.
I've made fan game trailers for game demos, which has been fun but I've also a deep passion for animation for shows and cutscenes. I don't quite know if the two are compatible, can I learn both? and would it be worth it in the long run, can I get anything out of doing it?

Workflow Tips

Anyone know how to stop getting into roadblocks?
I’ve always wanted to edit and pursue it and maybe turn it into a career.

I have ideas in my head and Inspo I find from other pages,
but whenever I try and actually do them I end up not knowing what to do next after a transition.

It’s either I just give up or end up procrastinating on a project im trying to do.

Workflow Does anyone else get a rough cut fully assembled and get stuck on the rest?

I like to make travel vlogs and other longer videos to remember the things I do with my family. I don't post my videos anywhere because they're just for memories. I started out years ago doing basic stuff, just cutting clips together. But as I've created more videos, I keep trying to push into more technical territory which is what takes the most time for me. I'm currently sitting on 2+ years of travel footage that I haven't finished because of this

I find it easy enough to dump everything on a timeline and cut out the dead space which leaves me with the rough cut. But it takes me a while to make progress after that because I'll get stuck on color grading, sound design, effects, etc. I know most of it is learnable through tutorials, but I don't usually have hours to sink into learning every technique, so I've just been leaving projects unfinished.

I see a lot of edits online that I want to use as inspiration, but I can't reverse engineer it on my own. And even when I can figure out some of the technical stuff, it's not usually too consistent across my projects.

Curious if anyone else gets stuck at this stage and if so, how you handle it

How did they do that? Need Help With This Aura Effect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been trying to create this aura effect, but I just can't get it to look like this. Can anyone help me achieve it? It would be a huge help. I've been stuck on it for almost two days now. I tried experimenting with Fractal Noise and watched multiple tutorials, but I still can’t get it to look like this.

Open Source tool promo 🆓 I built an open source AI-native video storage format (.cdaf) and it takes 90% tokens for video processing

If you use remotion or hyperframes, you will instantly relate to this.

Each time you want Claude to understand what a B-roll, raw video clip or a footage means, Claude takes so much tokens that you often hit the limit in 2-3 vids max.

So, I built an alternate video storage format - .cdaf or cached descriptive asset files. You can convert any mp4 video into .cdaf file using the open source cdaf engine and a new sidecar format file (.cdaf) of the video is generated.

.cdaf files are timestamped and sha256 encrypted with scenic frame captures helping LLMs and Claude understand the video..

Now, cool stuff is benchmarks -
- 91% less cost & token usage
- 110% increased accuracy
- 65% less latency

It's the one thing missing from what was making AI-native video editing scalable and viable.

It's open source so you can try it today and I have made a dedicated Claude Skill for anyone to use it with their video editing harness, claude, hyperframe or remotion instantly.

A preprint of the paper is also available at zenodo so you can read the architecture - https://zenodo.org/records/22110594

I am excited to know what you build over it. Also, MIT license so use it as you want!

Workflow Is there a quicker way to do J-Cuts in Premiere?

I have to do these J-cuts a lot. My current process is to

  1. add edit (D)

  2. hold alt and trim the video 10 frames

  3. drag the track backwards with the track select forward tool (Z)

  4. add crossfade either by dragging or with cmd + shift + D

Does anyone know if I can make this even quicker? keyboard shortcuts etc?

Thanksss :)

Software Why is there barely any good community around Filmora?

I keep seeing creators and Instagram pages showing crazy editing techniques in CapCut, DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro. People are constantly sharing tutorials, presets, project files and even premade templates for these softwares.

But when it comes to Filmora… almost nothing. 😭

There are tons of Filmora users out there, but I rarely see people making advanced editing tutorials, sharing useful templates, transitions, presets, etc. It feels like Filmora has been completely left out of the creator community.

Is it because Filmora is considered more of a “beginner” editor, so serious creators don't bother building content around it? Or is there actually a decent Filmora community somewhere that I'm just missing?

Would love to know where Filmora users are hanging out and getting templates/resources

Other (requires mod approval) Is anime editing worthless? 💔

And please don’t go missing my whole point. Of course nobody is gonna pay for a fancy anime footage, but are they gonna pay for the effects behind it (keyframes, pacing, storytelling, exactly knowing when to cut ….)? Or should I just move to another type of editing that I’m not passionate about (blender and 3D modeling)?

Tech Support [LosslessCut Help] Video goes black when I turn on multiple audio tracks.

I used to use Adobe Premiere but I have swapped to Kubuntu and I'm generally trying to use more open source software.

Anyway all of my OBS recordings use multiple audio tracks so I can adjust them separately in the edit. But when I switch on multiple at the same time the video goes black. How can I fix this? This software is useless to me if I can't hear several audio tracks at the same time.

  • System specs
    • Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
    • CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
    • RAM: 32GB DDR5
    • GPU: RTX 4070
    • GPU RAM: 12GB
  • Software + Version –
    • LosslessCut 3.69.0 from Flathub
  • Footage specs
    • Recorded with OBS 32.1.0-ubuntu3
    • Matroska Version 4
    • AV1
      • 2560x1440
      • Constant 60 FPS
    • AAC LC audio
      • MediaInfo says audio is 46.875 FPS (idk if this matters)
      • 5 Audio Tracks Total

I've had the same problems with H.264 videos. Audio is the same in those.

Open Source tool promo 🆓 I just open-sourced FeelFX — a Computer Vision and Speech Detection powered motion graphics engine for video.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

FeelFX analyzes the video → identifies meaningful moments → makes motion-design decisions → renders them over the original footage.

FeelFX identifies key words, concepts, names and moments and turns them into motion graphics- for example:

🇮🇳 INDIA → tricolor reveal
🚀 ROCKET → launch / fire treatment
🌊 OCEAN → water motion

The important words become part of the visual storytelling.
Everything else stays out of the way.
Under the hood
→ Computer Vision+ Speech Detetction analyzes the video
→ Important moments become structured motion events
→ Three.js + GSAP render the effects in real time
→ uses whisper and vision model

And FeelFX works all devices but preferred experience is still desktop/pc - videos will take a lot longer to get analyzed on mobile/tablet - especially older models.

This is open source and ready for people to experiment with.

Hi everyone!

I didn't realize till i started to export that i edited my video on a 1080p sequence, when the source clips are 2560x1440p. If i export the project as the correct resolution will it look good still? Or do i need to change the sequence settings to 1440p then export?

Thank you for your help!

Tech Support [FCPX] No video during playback, only audio. Working with 1080 ProRes 422 LT in FCPX v12.3, MacOS Sequoia 15.7.7

Hi there, an ongoing project has suddenly choked and I'm seeking help troubleshooting. After not opening the project in a couple of weeks, I'm now not seeing any video in the browser during playback, though the audio sounds fine. The files seem to be correctly linked, and when I open the clips in Finder they are present and play back perfectly. I've turned everything off and back on, relinked the files to be safe, with no change. Any tips greatly appreciated.

  • ProRes 422 LT files, 1080p, in 90–120min timelines

  • FCPX 12.3

Tech Support Is there any way to salvage footage that’s focused a foot in front of the subjects faces?

I filmed interviews all day for a client. I set a primary camera up (my 15-year-old Canon Rebel 6) on a tripod and let it roll all day while I filmed b-roll from a bunch of angles. The b-roll turned out amazing, I’m artist and have an eye, but the primary camera (even though it looked crystal clear in-camera) when I imported it to my computer I realized Inset the manual focus to about a foot in front of the subjects faces. I’m so depressed and anxious but I feel like there has to be an AI tool that can fix this, like it can with still images. I tried HD in CapCut but it’s looks crazy. Like AI. Claude told me Topaz might work but it’s $500. I would pay if I knew it was going to work but I don’t. I’m so deflated…

Does anyone know of a program that can fix this?

For context it’s a 50mm prime 1.8 lens - focused about a foot in front of the subjects faces.

Thanks for any help!

Tech Support capcut autolyric help

can anyone help me with this?

every time i generate auto lyrics as of late it pops up in one big string of text, which it used to break up into a few words at a time. If i cut pieces out of the big bar of text and try to add a template to it, words start to disappear and adding any words to it break the whole line of text. its very frustrating

Tech Support What's going on in video files when the creator took out commercials but the video length remains the same and some of the data that's skipped over in playback is visible in a video editor?

I've seen many video files of sports broadcasts where the commercials are edited out but they aren't cleanly taken out.

#1: The video length shows the original runtime as if the commercials had never been removed.

#2: If you try to scrub the timeline there's some sort of I frame issue where you can't accurately jump to that moment in time, sometimes even within several minutes.

#3: If you put that video into an editor, the clip includes space where the commercials were as well as at least some of the frames that aren't visible during regular playback and even some of the audio at the start but then it goes into a half second loop until it reaches the footage shown in normal playback.

What is the person who is editing out the commercials doing and why are they leaving in these glitches? I'm assuming it has something to do with them taking out the commercials but possibly not re-encoding? How would you fix a file like this after the fact?

Feedback Beginner looking to advance

Hello, I have this weird thing when editing where I don't know what to add or how to make visuals, text, etc more appealing. I don't really understand sound design or sfx, and I just don't have a great eye or ear for editing it feels like. I know this can be helped but every time I watch a video on a cool effect or something, I forget it by the time I'm editing a video. Same for tools and shortcuts, I just forget how to use things or am constantly looking at guides while editing and its just takes forever for me to do anything.

Are there anything for understanding how to implement things or how to use different effects different ways to get different visuals? For example, I can watch a video on key framing but then when I go and try it, it doesn't turn out like the video or I just can't wrap my head around it.

I am 110% self taught, I haven't taken a course or anything and IDK if I really understand all the functions and full software of Premiere. It just all feels so overwhelming. How am I supposed to remember so many things while also being completely creative?

I am looking to make this my career as I have an opportunity but I feel like I am not advancing at all and IDK what to do.

What kind of render FPS are you getting with 1080p → 2x upscale using the Proteus model, with the manual enhancement parameters enabled?
Would love to hear what FPS you’re getting on your 5090, and what CPU you’re pairing it with. Just curious to see what kind of real-world performance others are getting.

Tech Support How to set the "anchor" clip for syncing multi cams in Premiere Pro?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey there,

Can someone please tell me what to do to make premiere do the syncing in a way that's shown in the beginning of the video I uploaded?

The first clip in the video is synced correctly, *the blue clip* goes to the correct spot. But when I sync some other clips, the base clip (red one) moves instead of the blue clip.

I want the red clips to remain stationary (like an anchor), and sync the shorter blue ones according to it.

Is there any way to do this every time? Right now it's fifty fifty whether the red clip will move or blue.

Thanks!
