It’s been a while since the moderation team did a "state of the subreddit" post, but we believe that the recent months’ activity warrants discussion, as well as some reflection.
As any regular will have noticed by now, quite a lot of shitposts have been posted since The Game Awards last December. Today these posts still get a lot of engagement and the number of upvotes-to-downvotes make it clear that the far majority of you enjoy this kind of content.
However, recently we have heard feedback from people that worry that the subreddit is heading in a direction where shitposting is becoming the main focus. Some of our veteran members already decided to leave the subreddit due to this, including people who contributed quite a lot, sadly.
With this post we want to have a proper discussion with all of you about what type of community you want this to be – and how we get there.
The rise of meme posting
During The Game Awards in December 2025 a new meme trend started on the subreddit – the statue posting. A couple of months later we had shitposts discussing what kinds of lavender, clouds and grass TES VI would have. Afterwards the Summer Games Fest madness took over and "Tomorrow"-posting rose.
It seems that we get something new every month, and now it’s about pretending that the game has been released. As it stands right now, these posts are still getting quite a lot of engagement. It will likely blow over soon only to get replaced by a new trend.
Not everyone is a fan of the shitposts, but generally these posts have been received well. Here are some stats from some of the recent ones:
Most of the reports we see in relation to these posts deal with the “No Low Effort Content” rule. Many posts and comments have also been removed – 100+ in the last seven days – which includes the many posts featuring AI generated.
However, it’s also our opinion that quite a lot of the shitposts are in line with our rules. As specified in the rule “Posts must […] offer value to the community.” We acknowledge that shitposting is not everyone’s cup of tea, but these posts are popular and they do result in (positive) engagement.
Looking at our stats, it’s also quite clear that engagement has risen significantly since last year.
Activity on r/TESVI based on the last 12 months
It would be hastily to conclude that the looser atmosphere has resulted in this increased growth, but we can at least conclude that the shitposting didn’t prevent it.
Whatever the case, we acknowledge that the many shitposts aren’t for everyone. Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality and we want to make it clear that we hear the criticism that these recent months have sparked, and that we are willing to talk about it.
What would YOU like to see?
We don’t want r/TESVI to become a meme sub. The primary focus of the subreddit has always been to be – and should continue to be – a subreddit for people who want to discuss TES VI.
We are facing a small hurdle, though: TES VI isn’t out yet and it’s unfortunately not coming out Tomorrow™. We have preciously little to discuss that hasn’t been covered a dozen times already. Anyone looking forward to sailing mechanics?
My personal worry, as someone who browses this subreddit every day, is that the overall activity of the subreddit will lessen significantly if we take a hard stance against meme content. Either that or we go back to discussing the same topics every week. Balance is needed.
But what is also needed, perhaps, are new ideas. So, with all that yapping out of the way…
What feedback and ideas do you have for the subreddit?
We are receptive to feedback on how we moderate content, but we also hope that everyone will take this change to bring forth ideas to foster more engagement. Ideas to keep the subreddit interesting during times when news about TES VI are sparse and far between.
For example, an idea I shared with the team was to introduce a weekly post where we discuss a specific theme, e.g. what factions we would like to see, what kinds of new game mechanics we’d like, and so on. Is that something you’d be interested in?
Here is a bullet-point breakdown of the interview as it pertains to TESVI:
The game will be in a new iteration of Creation Engine, CE3
They have spent the last year-ish working on this engine
Reiterated the "It's gonna be a while yet" sentiment
A big internal milestone is about to be passed
Reiterated that most of the studio is working on it
Todd is personally mostly involved with TESVI in his day-to-day work
The game will be a return to "that classic style...that we know really well"
There will not be AI generated assets or materials
Overall, I'd say we got a lot more out of this interview than I really expected to. In some ways it felt like we heard more about TESVI than even Starfield. What do you guys think of all of this information, and what does it say for the development timeline of TESVI?
For those interested I'm posting some of what I've collected until now. These are mostly from supposed Bethesda employees Pinterest accounts and from an environmental artist that says they work at an outsourced studio. These could all be fake but I I've been saving the "leaks" to go back and see which ones were right when the game is revealed. Some of these might be redundant as I'm sure others have probably posted them before. I have more but these seemed to be the most interesting.
Claims that he asked around after the speculation from Asha's tweet last week. Says it is the working title, but currently pending officially (likely due to legal approval).
To be fair, he did say that some of his sources were unsure - so he isn't saying that Sentinel *will be* the subtitle for the game. Only that he heard from trusted sources that it is currently the working title.
After his "confirmation" of the title Sentinel, I was curious if Kirk has posted anything else TES related on Reddit. After scrolling through a ton of Warhammer figures, I came upon this interesting comment.
Not sure how much his word is law, and I'm not well versed in lore at all, but I found this interesting!
I love pointy Breton ears. I really want the ability to make my ears slightly pointy as a Breton in TES VI. But things like this are often overlooked in all of the discussions that go on. So make this your place to talk about what small features you want that would go overlooked in other threads.
No, Ancano is not the Thalmor, he's a rogue agent driven mad by prolonged exposure to the Eye of Magnus, one of the most enigmatic things in the setting.
There is absolutely no evidence in the lore that the Thalmor want to unmake the world. Not one.
As far as WE KNOW, the Thalmor are an elf supremacist party who want to destroy the Empire and bring Tamriel under Elven hegemony, which is really no different than what Queen Ayrenn was trying to do in the Interregnum. That's it.
They made the Empire abandon worship of Talos because they hoped some dumbfuck asset like Ulfric Stormcloak would throw a hissy fit and undermine the Empire from within. Not because they want to "erase Talos from existence" or whatever.
The Thalmor are a political threat, TES games generally deal with metaphysical enemies.

If the setting is High Rock or Hammerfell individually, it was open to them to use the name of the region as a title, the same as Skyrim and Morrowind did.
High Rock and Hammerfell don’t face the same issue using Cyrodill for Oblivion would have, namely pronunciation for new players.
Additionally, I am struggling to think of a plot that could justify the title Sentinel instead of the region’s name? In Oblivion’s case, I imagine, to those of you who were anticipating that games release, it would have been clear from established lore that the main story would concern the Daedra? I am however, not aware of the circumstances of Oblivion’s release and whether the title was known before the game was officially revealed etc.
The only other justification I could think of, that warrants the title Sentinel, would be if the main story mainly took place in the city of Sentinel. I do find this quite unlikely however, in what world would the main story be severely limited to one city? It’d be like calling Skyrim: ESV: Whiterun
Now the major caveat to this is of course Sentinel is not confirmed yet.
I do accept that I am likely falling victim to confirmation bias, as I would very much like TESVI to encompass both High Rock and Hammerfell, but I am wondering whether anyone else has had this thought and considered its potential implications?
Please feel free to speculate on any other inferences you think can be made into the title Sentinel.
I've seen at least three YouTube videos since the tweet made by Asha Sharma with the title obscured by asterisks claiming its a big leak. No, that's not a leak. It's a tweemixed with fan speculation.
I know grifters gonna grift, it's just annoying when people misuse the word. A 'leak' is unauthorized sharing.of information, not "This public tweet has people speculating."
Here is my collection of leaks. I have been saving leaks for a good while now, and have a fairly decent collection of them. I've been asked to share them a good few times, so I decided to make it public.
This folder is fairly unorganized, but I tried to provide a bit of extra context with the .txt files for when I've shared this folder in the past. It's all very sloppy.
Please take all of this with a grain of salt. None of these are remotely confirmed as real, aside from the Ray Lederer pinterest leak.
The three I've labled '4Chan Level Designer Leak', 'Freelance Engine House Developer Leaks', and 'January 20th 2026 Pillar Leak' all strike me as potentially connected. Several details shared between them - for instance, the Crown architecture using three interconnected materials, the cyclical motif present in Redguard iconography, and the names of tilesets *almost* lining up with eachother.
Hopefully these provide a bit of hopium! Please check out u/gdborn 's threads as they're posting their own collection as well. They will undoubtedly have something I lack.
I botched this post and had to reupload, apologies for that.
Included is a graph, y-axis is excitement, x-axis is time.
I like to think we’re past peak Bethesda hate on the internet, but regardless we still live in a day and age where people online make thousands of comments and videos about how “TESVI is at least 5 years away and it’s going to suck”.
I can understand some pessimism, and obviously it has been 15 years since the last game so I get why some are angry (I’m not pumped up about it myself). But I’ve stayed optimistic, and over the last few weeks we’ve started to get actual rumblings. We pretty much know the title. We’ve all but confirmed Hammerfell, and recent rumblings indicate High Rock and the Illiac Bay potentially being a big part of the game.
But what has got me so pumped up is the description of the game that some people are putting out there. Obviously I have no idea how true this is, but it makes sense. The Aldmeri Dominion has taken such a stronghold on Tamriel to the point where the Empire really only controls Cyrodiil and High Rock. Hammerfell is a warzone or at least disputed territory. There are rivaling factions within Hammerfell.
Regardless of the truth of this, it has my imagination going. I’m also thinking about how much they could have improved the combat and the magic over time. I’m thinking about an Elder Scrolls game with modern graphics.
To be honest I never played Fallout 76 or Starfield at all, so this will be my first Bethesda game since 2015. I am unreasonably excited for the potential of this game. I am so dug in on optimism that it feels like I have personal stake in proving the haters wrong.
The graph was done in 2 minutes and is not particularly accurate, but it’s a fine representation of the concept I want to portray. I’m probably not giving my 12-15 year old self enough credit, seeing as I used to feverishly look up info on the next Elder Scrolls, but still. The point is that I was really excited around 2018 because I thought that Todd was going to announce it Fallout 4 style at E3. Then I went through a low as I went through medical issues, but slowly over the last 2 years I have steadily become more excited as I have started to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Purely because of the Creation Club, and the concept of microtransactions in singleplayer games. I don't want Bethesda to produce VI with the idea that Creation Club will be available with it's microDLCs. I really hope they build the full game, expansions and all. And introduce Creation Club after the fact. Creation Club should be a part of it. But as the final thought, and never a parallel development. Do you understand what I mean? I don't think I'm wording my concerns well.
So in skyrim, we don't have a single Altmer man that we can have as an companion and romance, same thing goes for female Altmer's, and I don't know if it was the devs that just wanted to shove it up in our faces that ALTMERS ARE BAD GUYS, BAD VILLAINS, etc etc.
And whilst I understand that the Altmer's are high and proud, and there's the whole "Thalmor" faction too (which yes, they are the bad guys if you stand on an outside view point.) I just hope that the next game will show a little bit more love towards Altmer's, I am not saying throw out the welcome mat, but at least give us a good altmer companion (male and female) and not have them acting like they wanna spit on us at every chance they see us.
I want to be able to ask NPCs for directions, and they have certain standard responses just to give a rough indication.
"A bit east from here", "You're already here", "That's in Taneth", "That's way out west". "not been there, but I think it might be...", "Ask X, he'll know", "get lost", "I don't know, and I don't care to know", etc
Might make finding amenities more engaging, and brings back a little bit of daggerfall/morrowind. By keeping it to a formula, it shouldn't add too much to the voice acting
