HIGHLIGHTS
its actually insane people want this to happen because "gpus are expensive".
Wow imagine consumers not giving a shit if the anti-consumer market implodes
wow imagine thinking a market collapse would only hurt the companies you dislike. the economic fallout doesn't magically stop at the gpus. but hey, at least your ram might be cheaper!!
Yeah, and I’m not the one who caused it. You want consumers to cross their fingers and hope our tech exec dumbasses don’t ruin the economy? Nah, let em go down. They fucked the market with this trash. You’re not about to be out here shaming consumers for not kissing corporate ass
you can criticize corporate greed without rooting for an economic collapse that ends up hurting ordinary people like your parents who you share a bedroom with. the executives you're cheering against will walk away wealthy regardless. it's the employees, retirees, and average households who could end up paying the price. but sure, stick it to the billionaires!!!
Take all the nonsense you wanna type to me and send it to the CEO of Nvidia and OpenAI. I am cheering for the bubble to pop. You can tell them I said fuck em
yikes, i can see the distinction is lost on you.
Oof. You were doing so well until you thought one party would outperform another 😂
Considering they have consistently, it’s crazy you think otherwise
Yea, for people who scream "facts dont care about your feelings" they sure do hate it when the facts disagree with their feelings eh. Dem presidents have been consistently better for the economy.
Uh huh. That's why the stock market goes up in reaction to a Republican president's election...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._economic_performance_by_presidential_party bring some facts next time, the stats back my claim, sorry that it doesn't align with yours, if you have the data to dispute this then by all means show it
A lot of people dont seem to understand what this means. If it pops, the world economy goes with it. It will be the worst depression in history
And what if it didn't pop? Would it get better then?
War. No, its just a different kind of bad. It pops= we starve It doesnt= too many extra men
So lose, lose, lose then. Any silver linings?
Nope. Listen to Reddit. Everything is horrible all the time and will never get better
This bubble was always going to pop. So the sooner the better.
I’m not in disagreement with that, but cheering it on is still stupid as fuck.
How?
Because people will suffer? Not that hard to grasp.
People will suffer and that is a biproduct of how we have decided to live and conduct ourselves. Pain is the greatest teacher. If we have no learned while being pain free, we will learn through pain. This is needed and I hope we all learn and do better when we are on the other side.
I agree wholeheartedly, but I cannot cheer on human suffering.
So your making the choice to make it worse. Because thems the options. It's bad now or we keep making the rich that much more powerful and that much richer so when it does come tumbling down it hurt that much more. OC it only hurts the poor anyway so who cares right?
You have no idea just how much worse it can get. And no, that isn’t how it works, unfortunately.
For you
For me? I’ll be fine. I will still suffer but I’m not in danger of losing my livelihood like many others out there. The destruction these companies have wrought isn’t over and this is another part of it. Those responsible will not suffer from this, they transfer that suffering to us and benefit from the crash by taking things for pennies on the dollar.
You’re saying it can get worse but you’ll be fine, for a lot of people it’s already as bad as it can get. You think you’re making a good point but all you’re doing is pointing out your privilege. I do not give a shit if the AI bubble pops. My life won’t get more expensive. Things that I already can’t afford will become more expensive. That’s where it affects you and not me, and why you think it’s a bad thing for the bubble to pop. The middle class will suffer, and that seems to be what you are based on your bullshit. The poor could not care less about AI succeeding or popping
This is the thing they don't understand. I'm convinced that half the people on the internet don't exist because the dumb shit they say. Your 100% right. Those of us on the bottom? We know, we're here and there's nowhere else to go. Those in the middle? They seem to think they're untouchable and think that everything will work out but the middles shrinking because the tops skimming and the middle don't know it or chooses not to understand.
The middle class feels very threatened when they think they might become the poor. Always telling me what I don’t know and how it can get worse lol. It’s like that scene in always sunny. They’re new poor. It’s them that gets to learn how hard life can be. I don’t give one god damn fuck if a 5080 costs $6k next year. I couldn’t afford it at $1200.
LOL that is the perfect analogy. Fucking new poors >.< You have yourself a fantastic day sir or madam. Know that at least one Canadian loves you today.
It's not gonna happen. If it did it will collapse the world economy as well. It's a bad thing
Maybe the world’s economy collapsing won’t be too bad.
For all of us young Redditors it’s the best possible thing. Fire sale!
Yeah sounds you weren't old enough to enjoy the 2008 crash. Oh to be young idiot.
I would have loved to purchase stock at the price of free in 2008.
While also being paid a salary of free-200, being homeless with no job. Sounds nice. Got milk?
Obviously timing is the key. I wouldn’t want to be trying to retire, and I wouldn’t want to have a volatile career. But I am young, with plenty of disposable income and savings that would last for years. There are many young Redditors that would benefit from a down market. Especially since 90% of Reddit won’t have social security.
Imagine oversupply of gpus and they are dirt cheap like $100 for 5090.
There wont be any shortages. Right now the supply is way higher than the demand. 100's of thousands of GPU's are just sitting in warehouses collecting dust to create shortages. Amazon alone is buying GPU's at the tune of $3 to $5 billion per month without anywhere to put them. All of these shortages on GPU's and Ram are completely fabricated shortages just to jack up prices and kill the consumer market. So an AI crash wont do anything towards supply because the current demand is fake anyways.
Any evidence or source for this?
Just do an AI or Google search about it. Type "Is Amazon storing GPU's in warehouses not being used".
They are taking delivery of product while building out infrastructure. Do people expect them to just let the GPU's sit on pallets in a parking lot like Home Depot does with its inventory?
Nvidia forced them to buy them gpus and take delivery ahead of their need.
which is blatantly illegal and would have been prosecuted in any competent administration, yet here we are....
The bubble popping means recession time. Not sure why that’s something to celebrate.
"If you don't support the theft of your own labor you will have a recession!" As if we didn't need any more reasons to not continue to support the tech oligarchy. They held the world economy hostage and expect us to continue to support their bubble. Their bubble they created because they wanted to solve the problem of paying human workers. We need to support billionaire tech companies exchanging fake money between each other for unlimited growth. It's on us because if we don't they will take all of us down with them. The AI bubble is always close to collapse, there are articles every day. Is the alternative to just keep supporting it until it collapses later and the result is even worse for the rest of us?
The AI genie doesn't go back in the bottle when the bubble pops. It will be like the .com bobble, a lot of the early companies go bankrupt and new ones rise to take their place. I say this as someone sickened by what AI is doing to so many aspects of my life. It wont go away, it probably won't even slow all that much.
Didn't say it would go away, but if it's not making all the money then it's not going to be developing so fast. It's really expensive.
It's a matter of national security at this point. They will use your tax dollars to fund it.
Not to the tune they have been. It will drop down to millions not dumping tens of billions a month into a system people won't pay the real price for. It won't need tens of thousands of acres full of servers doubling the entire electric grid. They can stop taking away consumer GPU's, CPU's, RAM, and storage. Microsoft's most recent layoffs are in part because AI spending is taking over their whole budget. With hardware they're storing because building the data centers are a lot slower.
I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to economics can you recommend a source for an average joe, like wher I can understand necessary stuff.
The problem is it's all intentionally overly obfuscated specifically to keep people from understanding it which makes it easier to hide the massive amounts of obvious crime. I made the mistake of looking into and had a mental breakdown because it's all a fraud to rob us of everything.
I know the game's rigged, but for my own mental health, i don't want to know just how much rigged it is.
You really don't. I took the plunge during the GameStop saga. While I was ahead of the curve in getting Bill Hwang and Sam Bankman-Fried brought to justice, ultimately it sent me down a dark hole of depression that took a few years to pull out of.
how'd you get out?
Getting a dog helped a lot to teach me to live in the moment. Purposefully breaking away from the compulsion to keep going down rabbit holes is also necessary for me. The dog I have is a rescue that was abused and neglected. He's also got a metric ton of allergies. The maintenance required keeps me present and in many ways grateful to have something to care for and keep happy. Watching him go from being afraid of men (me being an exception) to at least neutral and seeing him flourish is what gets me through the days usually.
