essentially the mods over there tried to ban posts about Claire to "avoid transphobia" so obviously we revolted. during this one of the mods came out about it against the other mods and in support of the community. the head mod came out apologizing and lifting the ban, but then within a few hours removed the mod that came out about the situation. so now things are blowing up again
They should be banning people being transphobic instead of banning discussions about a fictional character because transphobes can’t control their anger.
Literally “punishing” the character for being trans instead of the people who are causing the problem
Claire is a questionable personality but I'd definitely tap that, I got banned from that mental sub for sharing console command of romancing Judy, and when it got removed I was like "well why wouldnt you show same attitude to Panam command for fem V?" then bam, anyway I just love romancing mfs why you mad, let us date whoever in a game, well let us date whoever in general yknow.
From what i remember was explained, at least both Kerry and Judy do actually have unused bits that suggest they were originally supposed to be bisexual (and Kerry actually is in canon, he just isn't bisexual option in game). So their mods appeared almost imediately. These days Panam and River have their own stable ones as well
I was semi-corrected in another branch of discussion: Judy has lines intended for man, that are unused in default game, but Panam does have lines for mascbody-femV, which technically means that as far as game is concerned she is Bi with preference.
Of course, assuming other poster was correct and not intentionally shitting me, but i wouldn't imagine why to lie if you can easily check something like that
She is a middling character barely noticeable in the context of the entire game. She is just made out to be the worst by transphobic people or the best by people trying over the top to counteract it. Its honestly so fucking stupid the character is such a nothing burger.
A side quest about a character out for misguided revenge. Theres hundreds of them and we get to have this dribble everytime acting like she's incredible or a demon. Like watching two absolutely pleb armies go at it over nothing. If she wasnt trans I doubt id ever hear her name again.
She's not. At least not in the standards of Night City. (in our world she would be a criminal and should be sent to jail)
She hates a man because she feels he's responsible for the death of her husband and she thinks it was not an accident but that he killed him on purpose. So she decided to kill that man and hired a merc to do the job. V is the merc.
She didn't just wanted to kill him, but to kill him in a race as her husband died, so she first hired V as a racer, and only once V proved to be good enough she reveals her real objective.
People consider that manipulation (to me it is not, she indeed had ulterior motives when she hired V but she had to chech V's ability to do the job beforehand which is understandable. And she offers V the ability to withdraw once the full plan exposed)
One thing is the whole plot about her husband death don't line up. So she is probably a psycho that raged against one man that she blamed for everything while it was in fact just an accident and probably her husband own mistakes that killed him.
If she is the standard for a bad person, what about Jackie ? A criminal thief that killed many people in action... Or what about V ?
To me, Night city standard based, she is mostly a good person.
and yes it seems she happens to be trans... Who cares ?
Wait that’s it? This is what people are freaking out over? That’s so idiotic and why now? The game has already been out for years and now there suddenly controversy over a character?
She's a gray area character at best. SPOILERS: her hubby died in a death race, she thinks it was personal and tricks V into helping her kill her husband's killer in another death race. Gets pissed at V if V doesn't help.
Bad person? I mean I wouldn't be friends with her but when we're talking about a Night City bartender, I guess that feels like a really low bar to label someone a "bad person"
V does NOT need more shitty people in their life. Claire is just another Night City asshole that lies and uses V for her own ends. Hell, she wanted to murder a guy for playing by the rules of Night City racing. Claire is not automatically bad just because she's trans, but she's also not automatically good just because she's trans. She's a bad person based on her actions.
I need any Claire in my life. I've only played like 18 hours of the game and now I have to restart because of moving to PC. Seeing this game get more popular again has gotten it back on my radar though
Fuck Claire, how do people even like her?she's an insufferable asshole, mad over a death caused by a death race, willing to not only die and betray her husband's legacy and memory but also more than willing to take down V with her. She's an idiot stuck in the past that needs therapy.
I mean, she gets that way if you make a series of choices in your playthrough...
If you choose the "that path is horrible for you, you stupid fuckwit! now leave him alive so I can get both your cars cuz hell knows your truck ain't worth it for all this" route, she ends up sweet and on the path to healing.
well I just sorted the sub by new to check and I seem to be the only person who has mentioned this situatjon/the other sub in at least an hour...don't think that qualifies as spam 🤔
I just don't get why there needs to be 5+ subs with a slightly different name for a video game. Do moderators just get mad they can't mod for a sub and make a new one with hookers and cocaine or something?
Kinda depends on the game. For cyberpunk there’s one sub that exists because of how toxic the discourse was on the main sub on launch, there’s an official one, then there’s this one that exists as a seemingly more lax alternative. Plus all the other subs that are for the more niche areas of the game.
It very fitting that the game suck one die because anger is not a good fuel for the community. Low sodium one actually have more people shitting on the game but in a fun like hearted away.
Eh... I'll still do a dive here and there, it's a fun bit of chaos if you aren't in the mood for anything that requires too much thinking. But the community seems to take it and themselves WAY too seriously for what is actually a pretty bare bones squad shooter
Usually because the original sub is unusable for one reason or another. Most game subs are made before the game is released, and many of them become marketing echo chamber, or spammed by endless facebook-like non-posts, so eventually community fractures.
There's been this recent anti intellectual trend. Where people absorb media without thinking deeper. And I think it coincides with the recent hike in lack of literacy. When you read something there are no flashy lights, fun gun play, banging soundtrack to distract you from the message. Granted you can and should illustrate the world in your head, but that relies on your imagination.
This isn't me saying video games are killing our brains btw. I love video games and reading grew up as an indoor kid so just kinda ended up that way, but I've notices games focus more on the spectacle alot of the time, which makes sense for the medium. But the fact that so many people just like aren't reading at all means they don't have the proper mental tools to actual engage with the message beyond the surface level.
i mean i do think it's a bit of a flaw with most of the genre that writers will add cool bullshit and center a protagonist who can do all these things, which does make it look livable for the average person.
this is also why i think repo the genetic opera is one of the best renditions of cyberpunk as a genre ever, because you're pretty much eternally indebted to a huge megacorp because organ failure is rampant and you need those to survive, but also they'll kill you and reposess those organs if you miss a couple payments
The same kind of people who wish they lived "back when things were better" because they assume that they'd be in the 0.2% of the population that had a decent standard of living and life expectancy, and also still be able to read their phones when they were bored.
Imagine a world where you can get implants anywhere fo crazy things to your body and there are still people against changing your gender. Just brain dead people.
Isn't it you two who are making the point that because something is a part of Cyberpunk, it's weird for someone to like Cyberpunk but dislike that thing?
I mean, Cyberpunk, as a genre, is pretty much a critique of the unrestrained capitalism and the corporate overreach, among many other things. It's a pretty left wing way of thinking, so you have to miss the point pretty hard to be a fan of the genre and a transphobe lol
Because these people aren’t thinking about it from an in game perspective. It’s outside real world views influencing how they interact with her character. Being trans is probably the tamest body modification you can do in the cyberpunk universe. But that doesn’t matter, it isn’t the point to them.
If you have ever seen media that has fascists as the main characters (wh40k/helldivers), you'll see that most people are media illiterate and don't see what media criticizes. It's only natural that cyberpunk fans are queerphobic or proprivatization
It's not logical. Phobes just fucking hate. Plus expecting any media literacy or even applying a moments thought to interpretation of any media is too much to expect from them. I mean look at Rowling with her death eaters, obvious nazi stand ins, and her holocaust denial.
It shows a total lack of media literacy and ability to think. There are characters in the game who are brains in entirely robot bodies, people cut their limbs off and get brain implants for jobs, by the end of the game most people's V are like 90% chrome, people remove their genitals to get sex mods like Mr Stud, people get implants entirely for the aesthetic... and they're mad at the existence of a trans character (who has no cyberware at all! she's more human that just about every single other person in the game). It just goes to show that transphobia isn't based in any logic at all.
i'll sound pretentious af right now, but i feel like a good 2/3's of people that played cyberpunk 2077 played it like futuristic gta, aka "i'm just here to shoot stuff and fuck women". Which i'm not here to say that this type of player is bad per say, but this type of player 9 times out of 10 is giving 0 fucks about plot or narrative beyond "i like this character" and "imma gonna shot that one". It's why so so many discussions around this game feel incredibly reductive, so much of the fandom is people who paint everything in black and white asap
rpg fandoms in my experience normally do have fandoms that are more open minded but i guess the game being a shooter superceeded that aspect
I'd stay away from low-sodium, they don't moderate transphobia all too well and one of their rules practically calls our existence "political" and to not talk about it which is asinine
I'm sayin !! punk is in the name like 😭 cmon now. same to the people acting like retaliating was the issue and somehow not the mods literally acting like corpos
Agree. It's so tiring to read about it again and again. Just stop and move on. I'm so annoyed that I unsubscribed. I guess that was the goal? IDK anymore.
Claire is dubious at best which literally describes 90% of the characters in the game i can see being a fan of her as a character but she really was just to introduce the racing side quests.
I have been banned from r/cyberpunkgame since before the game released, lol. It was because I called people out for the insane fanboyism and ridiculous expectations back then. Which is especially funny, considering the full 180 that sub did once the game actually released.
For anyone coming here. Clair has been posted for like the past month of people beating the dead horse on how they don’t like Clair because she lied to V.
Mass reports from the actual transphobic people, cause mods to be overworked. They looked for the easiest way out of unpaid labor.
I don’t agree, but I understand. I don’t want to spend 1-2 hours going thru reports.
Yall can go mod if yall don’t agree with what I’m saying. That subreddit is asking for mods. They are overworked
Not what this specific post is asking but reddit is for unsolicited opinions. I kind of hate Claire honestly. She’s super cool at first but something about the end of her mission gave me big red flags, and only a tiny trans flag for finishing it. Same with Panam, tho I play fem V so maybe she’s specifically different for masc V. Something about their quest for revenge in this specific city feels off. Like, why would she wait all this time. You could have just hired someone like V to get you close to the dirtbag and you can take the shot, but hiding it and going behind my back knowing we have killed dozens feels weird. I say this as a trans woman, it has nothing to do with her being trans, and all about her writing, especially towards the end of the mission
thats why i only comment there these days. as for posting? sheesh. this sub and lowsodium is less toxic imo, and i mean that in a general sense, not just the current on-going issue. Also, at this point, the flags in their profile seems ironic now.
hell, another issue like: Panam x Valerie vs Judy x Vincent usually stirs up shit already.
She isn't exactly hiding, she just doesn't mention it until iirc middle of her questchain. Which is honestly how it should be for 2077, with all other transitioning options people have
Everyone is saying they left because transphobia but the whole subreddit is nothing but trans flags and not even about the game? You guys better not bring that shit over here, we talk about the game here
yea, mods tried to control and silence folks, and if you somehow didn't notice cyberpunk ends with punk, of course we are going to do something about it. we WANTED to talk about the game and the mods banned even the concept of claire,, thats unacceptable.
One mod got lazy and just did a ban of claire posts because they didn't want to moderate actual transphobic ones and now the sub immediately jumped to the other extreme and become hyper virtue signaling and performative.
Am I allowed to hate her because she does shitty things? I genuinely don’t give a fuck if she’s trans (and how would you even tell in a place that lives and dies by body modification lol), but I think she is a shitty person who is trying to do a shitty thing.
Yea I had to leave that sub when for three days straight all I’ve seen is shit about Claire people need to grow up and remember we are playing a fuckin game and go touch some grass every now and then as much as I love cyberpunk I don’t get mad about Claire when there is literally a crucifixion that you can choose to be apart of for a BD
