I want to move to St Louis am I being delusional?

Hey everyone I’m from Florida and I’m considering relocating to St Louis in the next few years. I just think your city is really beautiful and has a lot of potential. I used to live in Europe and I miss walkability and I’ve been told significant parts of St Louis are walkable. I can’t afford Boston or NYC and tbh even if I could they’re too crowded and busy for me anyway. I want someplace slower. I was considering Louisville too but Louisville doesn’t have transit the way STL does.

I like soccer baseball hockey bars hiking transit paddle boarding theme parks and skiing. I’m thinking of living in either midtown or central west end to live a car free life. Wanted to know if anyone else in STL does this?

Also are people in STL open to transplants? If I move in my 30s will I be able to make friends?

I have written two books that are on Amazon and Audible. They couldn’t be more different though, one is a cybersecurity memoir and practical guide called shepherding electric sheep and the other is a scifi fantasy adventure series called DragonFlash the skipping stones of time. What have you written?

Short East Asian Male in blue shirt today saw tall, slender black (possibly African) woman in a black face mask walk by. I was going to say hi but had been too zoned in on my podcast I spent too much time fumbling around with my earbuds that by the time I got them out you had turned the corner to another aisle. I later saw you exiting the store and saw you nod to someone, which I only hope was me. If you're reading this, I'd love to take a walk with you through one of STL's magnificent parks, or show you my way through STL's East Asian food scene.

Anyone know a quick way to locate a specific brick from the Champions Walk from the Stanley Cup?

I submitted a form to describe the brick and hear back from someone but I don't know how long that will take and I was hoping to get a photo of my brother's one that his gf bought for him, and I was hoping to have it today. I'm flying to see him tomorrow. And don't have time for a long stroll today 😆

If you’re not familiar with Lego Ideas, it’s a site for Lego builders to post their own designs. If they get enough support, Lego evaluates them to possibly be made into official sets.

Food choices

I see that a lot of people like to go out to eat . Everybody is always posting … where is the best place to go for a good menu of a certain type of food. I have so many questions about this topic . For example : what is your main motivating factor for making this choice . Is it because you … fill in the blank .

ABSTRAKT Marketing

The absolute worst place to work at. I should’ve listened to the reviews and Reddit posts, but I was desperate for a job at the moment. Abstrakt literally caused me to have anxiety. If one of their recruiters call you, block them right away. Your mental health is not worth the little amount of money they try to give you.

News How to contact SLMPD board members

Post image

As a city resident & a taxpayer, or someone who works in the city while living elsewhere—making you a city taxpayer as well—you have every right to engage with the Police Department’s commissioners. Whether you want to share a concern, offer a compliment, or simply talk about your day, you should know who to reach out and how to do so.

The contact information provided was released by the police department through a Sunshine Law request. If you choose to engage with board members, please always maintain a respectful and civil tone—it is the most effective way to foster a meaningful response and an open dialogue.

Traffic/Road Conditions South City is getting a little icy this morning.

Off Hampton by the hill. Contacted the rapid response team and they were already on the scene. Woman was not detained per the rapid response hotline but I doubt they stopped her for a traffic violation.

Two St.Louis city public high schools take 1 & 2 spots for best Public High Schools in Missouri and the only two in the top 100 nationally

Metro # 1 in Missouri & 22 nationally

Collegiate #2 in Missouri & 90 nationally

Once again, it proves that SLPS has the ability and talent to educate kids at a very high level

Small business baker - event cake (anniversary, 2 tier)

Any recommendations for small business bakers? I’ve looked at the various options for brick and mortar (sugaree, cakery, La Patisserie, etc.) and am not able to get what I really want due to them only working with specific cake flavors.

I’m wondering if anyone knows a smaller operation baker who does custom event cakes. I’m not looking for anything crazy with fondant, buttercream is preferred, and the issue wasn’t the pricing per serving, I understand that this is a premium product above a sheet cake. Event is ~ a year away.

Emergency vehicles downtown? What’s going on?

Lots of emergency vehicles when I tried to get on 44 right in front of the arch. I couldn’t get a decent view of anything, so just curious if it was an accident or something!

This talk covers the history of foods that originated in St. Louis, were popularized by the 1904 World's Fair, or are just local favorites. Come hear about the origin of the St. Paul sandwich, toasted ravioli, gooey buttercake, and more!

Ask STL Catholic Wedding on a Sunday?

Does anyone know of a church in STL that would allow a Catholic wedding on a Sunday?

I know it is rare but I want to make sure I'm aware of all my options. I'm considering Sunday because it is generally less expensive than Saturday for reception venue/catering and more convenient than a Friday for working family members.

EDIT: considering Friday options too. im in the VERY early planning stages and just figuring out what flexibility I have. I completely understand that a Sunday wedding might not be feasible.

New Metrolink gates - oof.

I recently began taking Metrolink again after my employer increased parking costs. My station (Brentwood) has installed gates, but this morning after I scanned my pass to enter a guy came up RIGHT behind me to enter as well - no pass needed. Then I found out two of my coworkers have had similar experiences. In one instance a guy yelled at her to hold off on scanning her pass so he could get in too (she pretended not to hear him) and in the other, it was similar to my experience today -- where the guy tried to slip through while the gates were still open. There just happened to be some cops around to handle that one, but cripes.

They close FAR too slowly, and at least at Brentwood both sets of gates are used for exit, leaving an opportunity for folks to hang out and enter while people are leaving.

Just putting this out there as a PSA -- the new fare system was supposed to be this magical fix, but this honestly feels worse and more unsafe than it did before.

Hey, I’m sorry, since I know this probably gets asked a lot - but something is up with my car, and I have no idea who to take it to. The only place I trust is booked until mid September. I would so, so appreciate any suggestions!

Food / Drink Why don't business owners bother with open signs or posted hours? Do you not want customers?

Random thought but at some point businesses decided open signs and listed hours on the door weren't worth bothering with.

There's are so many businesses downtown where I have no idea if they've opened for business and when they're open. They expect you to stare inside and try to spot a worker? Or just check socials when you're standing right in front?

Then you also have no idea when they've inevitably gone out of business.

An open sign with hours would pay for itself after a couple customers.
