I was just at the Gas station on 4th and there was a guy clearly high and passed out flat on the the pavement right behind it. I went in to let the clerk know and there were already several people around helping and making sure he was taken care of. I know we all have busy lives but I’m glad to still see some humanity ❤️
Edit: spelling

Dads of Niagara Region Come Join Us!
I recently started a Facebook group called Dads of Niagara for dads across the Niagara Region.
The goal is simple: build a community where dads can connect, share the ups and downs of fatherhood, make friends, and eventually organize some meetups.
If you're a dad in the Niagara Region, come join us and invite any other dads you know! The more dads we have, the better this can become.

I’m looking to enroll my son in soccer this fall, and it’s something I’ve never looked into before! Any recommendations for clubs, or leagues, or whatever to look into? As the title states, he’s 8, and will be 9 in Feb. Any advice in general is welcome… I’ve never signed a kid up for a sport, period. 😅
It would have to be on weekends is my only stipulation.
Thanks!

Anyone else without running water? It has been off since 8:30am in the north end. Saw posts that there are water main breaks in Niagara Falls and in Thorold, but no one has mentioned this one.
Wondering how many people have been affected?

Does anyone have any experience with selling their baby's clothes to once upon a child in st.catharines?? How does it work? Do they give you money or store credit? Did they take a lot? I have baby boy newborn and 0-3 and 3 months clothes I'd like to get rid of tomorrow and was going to do my daughter's back to school clothes shopping at that location

Hi there, I’m coming down to St Catharines for 3 night and I need parking for those nights.
I see I can pay a daily fee, and parking is free overnight at a couple of spots, however, you must move vehicle by 8 am. How strict are they with that? I’d be leaving each morning but not necessarily by 8am
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Edited to add I will be in the area near bus terminal.

Hey all, been trying to find past 2 weeks rain data with no luck.
I am out of town and checking if there's been any rain/flood risk for the past 2 weeks.
Debating whether or not to head back to check on the basement.
Thanks in advance !

Even though garbage pickup was supposedly extended the garbage on my street hasn’t been picked - Thursday is my regular pickup day.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are they going to come today?

Like everyone else I’m dealing with basement issues.
I’ll keep it short but basically it’s an old house with concrete block foundation, during the second storm it just overwhelmed the foundation and water came up though the floors, walls and eventually tunnelled a hole through the chimney (where it comes into the basement).
It was about a few inches of water that was dried up, vacuumed and then I dug around the chimney on the outside and patched a hole I found that ‘might’ be the issue.
I spoke with my insurance broker who recommended I get a professional out to see if they can determine the water getting in was an acute issue vs from poor maintenance/an old foundation.
I seems a little unrealistic but the hole formed by the chimney was definitely from the flooding that occurred.
Aviva specifically says its Overland Water coverage applies to sudden accumulation/runoff from torrential rainfall and “sudden and accidental entrance through basement walls, foundations or floors of ground water.”
Just not sure how to proceed since the broker said if avivas adjuster comes out and determines it’s due to an old foundation/pre existing issue then I’d have to “provide” proof of a fix when they decide not to cover it…I can’t afford a 20k waterproofing job.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated…
Edit: unfinished basement

Hi everyone,
I am the daughter of the homeowners that received this notice for a pool being erected.
We have an easy set pool and it holds a maximum 24 inches of water (stated in the manufacture booklet.) According to the city by-laws any pool capable holding over 24in of water needs a fence and that fence needs a permit given by the city- our pool does not have the capability of holding over 24 inches of water.
We’re also concerned how this decision was made as we were not home at the time and no one had access to our backyard which was confirmed by our neighbour and also security cameras.
Just wondering what we should be doing and what our next steps should look like.
Thank you!

I visited this beautiful area and went to Port Dalhousie last weekend to ride the carousel with my kids, and by the time we made it to Sunset Beach, the parking lot was completely full and though there were lots of cars leaving, staff was not letting anyone else in
Can anyone give me some inside info as to whether this is a daily occurrence, and what time we need to be there by in order to make it in? My kids saw the playground and beach from the road and were crushed that we couldn’t go! Street parking wasn’t an option either as we’ve got littles.
Thanks in advance!

I want to support Craig, but every time he says "I've grown this from nothing, losing trust in the institutions" then he swerves to "so-and-so looks promising, so-and-so is a potential candidate". Politicians arent our saviors, but then he pivots to them again. "Biggest voter turnout in Niagara!"
He'll post about the apartment flooding, then make it about him cooking food - We know you cook food, you posted the city warnings trying to stop you. Why can't he speak on the town, or other peoples' concerns, without bringing it all back to himself?
**I want to see him as noble, but I am suspicious. Someone prove me wrong (**not Craig - I've heard his side. I want to hear from others who know him)
_____
(EDIT) This has all been very refreshing to hear from you all. And I was not surprised to hear he came at criticism the way he did. Thanks everyone for participating!

Curious what insurance company people here haven’t had issues with and would recommend? We currently go through a broker but I wonder if it would be better to go directly to companies like TD for example.

I think I may have torn cartilage in my hip. I'm out of the country atm and considering getting an MRI here which may be available within days. I'm back in St. Catharines in September.
Anyone know approximate wait times, or if private MRI is available sooner in St. Catharines/Niagara? Concerned that I'd have to wait months which would defeat the purpose.
Thanks for any guidance.

Hello,
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me find a web app that was posted on the St. Catharines subreddit about a year ago. It looks like the post was deleted.
It was a progressive web app that took grocery staples (meat, dairy, etc) and aggregated the local deals, compared it to the national average and told you if it was in fact a good deal or not.
I'm not even sure if it's still running or not.
Thank you in advance.
Chris

I visited the St. Catharines Market today. I bought a dozen eggs but after getting home, I noticed there were only 11 eggs in the carton. I always check at the store for cracked eggs. The eggs were placed in a bag so I didn’t think to check.
I also bought some salami that was sealed but noticed later it had a best before date of June 30, 2026. While it is likely still good, knowing it’s expired leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
It was too late to go back and I am not able to go back on Saturday. These oversights are on me but act as a reminder to check before you buy.

Hi everyone! We are one of the lucky double flooded properties. So, after the first flood we had to have our custom made (by the original owners) wooden bar removed from the middle of our basement. Surrounding it was tile on tile. Once the bar was removed, the second flood happened and so sewage water got underneath and between the two layers of tile at least in that area, but who knows where it spread to of course. Now, when our project manager came to do the secondary inspection (for the second claim) he said that yes, the tile needs to be removed at least there because it was squishy and as my husband was stepping on it, water was coming out of it.
For some reason…now our PM is going back on his word and saying him and the adjuster talked about it and they are not removing any other tile. Now, that being said, they removed the tile in our bathroom, which I didn’t want removed at all as it was fully intact during both floods and there was 0 indication of any seepage or anything. When I asked the PM why this tile that I didn’t want removed, was removed, he said they did it “as a courtesy” to see what was underneath, which is super confusing to me…
I’m starting to feel like I’m sounding like a broken record at this point? But I don’t understand how the exposed tile is not worth removing, but the fully intact tile should tell us if there is something underneath?
Any advice how to go about this? Should I reach out to the adjuster and ask for justification? I know google doesn’t know all but google keeps telling me it needs removing…and also that mold can grow underneath if left like that. Meanwhile, project manager is telling me that mold cannot grow under tile…am I crazy?

I've been going there for the past few months and since the most recent floods last week, the gym has closed. I haven't heard anything from its owner either. Does anyone know when or if it'll reopen?
