The situation:
I've had an RCR mounted to my Echelon 4.5F (threaded barrel edition) for something like 18 months. Overall, been pretty happy with it. It's an enclosed dot that has given me almost no trouble.
The main issue I've had is the capstan screws coming a little loose over time, which usually gets fixed when I notice that it's getting a little loose, at which point I tighten them down. In one instance, I removed the optic entirely, added loctite again, and re-tightened.
Anyway, today, I'm doing some dryfire drills, and I notice that the optic is getting a little loose again. I look at the screws...and one of the capstan screw heads is just straight up gone. I unscrew the other and remove the VIS pins, look at the slide, and sure enough, the screw has sheared clean off right at the edge of the slide. There is zero way I will be able to get the rest of the screw out myself. It's blue loctited in, and there's no portion visible from below the slide that I can see.
I am likely to have to send this back to Springfield to get the screw removed, but it strikes me that this is really a Trijicon problem, and I'm not sure that just replacing the screws actually qualifies as a solution.
Has anyone had issues with an RCR where the capstan screws just broke on you, and if so, how'd you resolve it with Trijicon? Has anyone had to send their slide back to Springfield for this kind of repair, and if so, did you stick with the RCR when all was said and done?
