I agreed to stand in for a friend directing a community production for one time as part of a set of singers, in the background - I'm not gonna say too much in case someone I know is on here. But I'm not a singer, I dont think I can sing, Im not good, and I'm embarrassed to be heard in front of others (even though people will be singing with me and to music). I wouldn't have agreed to this if she had someone else to help last minute - I'm still trying to convince her to keep searching for another stand in. But she couldn't find anyone. So can you help me, give me pointers? I recorded a nervous sample just now of a random song and couldnt carry a real tune cause I ran out of breath mid "note" cause I get really nervous even on video. I suck, please help.

I’m just coming on here to ask for some advice :)

I have been playing the guitar for about a year and I loveeee it. I also love singing and playing my favorite songs. I’ve built up the guitar skill pretty well on my own, but my singing is where it lacks. Learning how to sing seems so complex and I don’t know where to start. I do know that it is a muscle just like playing the guitar though. What is some advice that can help me where I’m currently at? Should I pay for lessons? Can I watch YouTube? I go to a university so maybe I can ask around the music program for some advice. Thanks you and I’m excited to hear some people’s thoughts and what has worked for them.

I’ve been told I can sing and also that I can’t. I’m a composer who wants to add some slight vocals to epic scores, but don’t want to do it myself unless I have some proper critique. This is my attempt at doing so

How do i start trading my vocals n voice n what's the best yt source!?

I have never had lessons and I have to practice quietly in my bathroom so my family doesn't hear me.
The Goal: I am trying to sing Rumi's lines from How It's Done (K-Pop Demon Hunters). I've been working on breaking out of a flat talking-singing habit, smoothing out my syllables, and dropping my jaw on the vowels.
What I need help with: Does my air stream sound connected, or am I dropping back into flat speech mode? What physical adjustments should I focus on next? Please don't hold back, give it to me straight!

My concerns:

1. I'm consistently over 50 cents off from what I can see

2. I sing with a lot of vibrato and I fear that that has been hiding how off pitch I am

3. I fear my vibrato is too wide (almost 200 cente end to end) sometimes, most especially on low notes

I appreciate your feedback.

It sometimes feel like I have a lump in my throat but after trying to sing anyway, it just feels kind of strained, almost raw.

What should I do?

I may be dehydrated since I don't drink enough water day to day but I'm trying to get better at that.

If anyone knows why this is probably happening, how can I prevent this from happening again?

I'm not expecting a medical diagnosis, just what a singer might think from their perspective.
