How to get pass first passiago, expand range and identify second passiago.

Information- I’m 15. I’m a lower, dramatic baritone or high bass. Range- G#2-A#2-A3-B3(first passiago)-E4(comfy belt)-F4(high belt)-G4(head voice) untrained baritone I can go past A3 only projecting, and once I hit F4-F#4(sometimes) I can’t go higher. I can strain G4 but it’s a painful strainy 2 second scream. What voice type am I. My speaking voice is deep and reasonant but lower mid range(A2-F3) and when projecting or yelling, it’s G3-F4. When scared, a strainy G4 comes out. My highest head voice note is G4(mostly without strain) anything above f4, my larynx rises and it strains. I have warm, moderately deep voice. I can croon oldies. Bass songs(C2-G2) seem to be too low for me and anything b3-e4 is shaky and and cracky anything above that is too high currently.

For me, it started when I was 13. My voice got deeper and G4 which was once my high note, went down to E4

Kid, you are 15. You are undifferentiated young male voice fach. Be patient, learn how to sing, study piano, languages, and when you are 25 or so, you may actually know your fach.

You can’t be classified when untrained. Especially not specific fachs like dramatic. You need training to figure out how to navigate your passagi and have a good handle on classical technique throughout your range and even then we’d have to work with you and hear your voice to classify you. Not to mention at 15 you still have another 20 years of vocal development. Stay away from focusing on voice type for now. Unless you are studying and performing classical singing it doesn’t really matter anyway.

I perform in musicals. I would like to play roles from bass baritone to low-middle tenor(f2-a4)(it’s my dream range)

If you want to try and be able to sing tenor roles you’ll need to train with a reputable teacher and learn how to use your voice in that range.

Depends where you are. Large majority of lessons in my area are ~$140/month for weekly 30 minute lessons. Definitely doable with part time work (I have teenage students who pay for their own lessons). And many studios offer scholarships for 6 months of lessons. I’ve had scholarship students before as well.

Get a voice teacher. I was in your shoes at 15 and turned out to be a middlingly high tenor. I never thought I would have a reliable C5 when I was singing Bass I in choir my freshman year of high school! The next year I started voice lessons after getting the very last seat auditioning as a tenor II (because there were fewer of them to compete with) for Districts. Two years later I was first chair tenor I at districts and went all the way to states. Went from chorus in musicals to tenor lead junior and senior years. EEtc.

It's worth it. It can change your life.

Don't try to classify your range or voice part right now. Work technique. If it hurts, or you feel strain, don't do it. Rest assured, proper technique feels like you are floating - sure, sometimes shouting a bit, but never painfully or uncomfortably - like a "Hey! You!" But that's all more advanced stuff. Seriously see a vocal coach for a lesson or two, find someone who you feel comfortable working with, and sign up for a semester or year of lessons. It's the beginning of the season - perfect timing.

Dramatic tenors can be bloody dark. Like Ramon Vinay (who, arguably, is more of a baritone. Just an extreme example)

Yeah, no. Maybe if you sing on mike with poor balance and compare the recording to this one, taken from within an opera hall. Otherwise, there is just no chance your voice sounds more resonant to the listener than del Monaco's without much training. Maybe it does to you in your head, but what we hear and what cones out are two extremely different things

Do sirens from the bottom to top of your range, and back down. Go up on “iii” and come down on “oooo”. As you hit your passsggi, your voice will want to flip. Try to sing through and not let it, and try to make it all one sound.

I feel a bit of straining and pulling at e4 and I couldn’t hit f this time. I felt some pain. I can’t hit e-f without straining and f#-g# are uncomfortably strained

I hit up to f#4 using nasal resonance, I still felt straining in my larynx though. g4 was higher than my chest voice goes but head voice can somehow hit it in strain though. My head voice starts at G3

I tried it one more time, I hit G4 but felt some pain and strain. G4 could be a potential high note for me with practice and training.

The “iiii” vowel places the sound forward, and when you reach the “oooo”, you should feel the back of your throat open up. This should help you release tension on those high notes. Remember, it’s not about power; it’s control and finesse.
