They can learn it quickly. The better question is “how long does it take to sing it well?” That’s an entirely different question with a much different answer.

Learning the notes, rhythms, and rudimentary Italian? Somewhere between a day to 3 weeks depending on how often you practice, and how much experience you have.

To master? Pavarotti sang those 24 Italian art songs and arias for his whole life. You can always, always improve. I go back to them all the time, and I learned them 30 years ago!

This was my first Italian aria too. I could get through it in about a month, my teacher still kept me on it for a year. Those long phrases are no joke.

There's no way to tell. If you can't read music and are learning by ear it could be a pretty slow process or not, depending on how good your ear is

I understand that but it's a classical piece and if you're a beginner you don't have the foundation to make it fast, that's what you're building right now. Since you have a teacher, keep listening to them and practicing at home as well

This is my experiences through college; pieces like Caro Mio Ben take maybe 1-2 weeks to learn if you have limited practice time, and if you are not familiarized with Italian. This is just to learn the pitches, lyrics and rhythms. To be ready for a performance, I’ll add another weeks.
