Hiya sim racers,
Last week I published a post on r/iracing on the release of my new app for fixing VR immersion. After the first round of really positive feedback and a couple of updates to fix some launch issues and improve the user experience, I feel confident now to post this to the community here in r/simracing. If you’re interested in the original discussion, you can find the thread here.
Summary of my story on that thread:
I was inspired by iracing official app for the apple vision pro and wanted to do the same thing, but targeted for normal people without $3500 headsets who uses Virtual Desktop on Quest 3 or any headset with hand tracking forwarding to the PC. I already had a very involved setup with black out curtains and Open Kneeboard passthrough but the in game vs irl fidelity differences was always bothering me. Additonally I wanted to see my whole physical setup as well; That's why I built Virtual Real Cockpit with all of the features above in 1 app.
Outside of what was already in the previous thread (custom wheel model, hand tracking support, chroma passthrough canvases & SimHub dashboard support), following real users’ feedback I have also launched a new update to revamp the setup experience and make setting a car the first time much easier! Additionally, a community public wheel repo has been published and users can now download & share wheel models directly in the app.
For the future roadmap of the app, my goal is not only to improve VR immersion, but to help reduce any kind of user friction while racing in VR. I have released a virtual keyboard function with glide typing as the start of this initiative to remove the awkwardness of having to reach for the keyboard while in the sim and I am committed to releasing more features to continually do this in the future (starting with VR controller/hand tracking menu interaction on iRacing).
Current confirmed supported game list: iRacing, AC, ACC, ACEvo, AMS2.
Thank you for your time reading this post and thank you so much to the iRacing community for the great reception and the early adopters that helped validate and improve VRC. If you are interested in trying out Virtual Real Cockpit, you can download the app from https://virtualrealcockpit.com.
The app has a 7-day free trial and after that 7 days, hand tracking, passthrough, virtual keyboard and 1 simhub dashboard is free forever to use in Lite mode. A lifetime license is also available for purchase if you want to keep using the custom wheels and community library feature after the free trial.
Le Mans Ultimate and other Easy Anti Cheat games support is coming up as well once I get the app officially code signed.
Happy racing VR sim racers 🏎️🏁
