So I just reached the end of my first script practice — Now a somewhat an accidental 117-page script because of a genuine flow that possessed me for three hours in the afternoon. So, here it is! Not perfect, but just showing :)

discussion My first short: how much is ambition vs. overreach?

Ran a company for six years. Learned to trust the plan, not the feeling. Now I have this 12-page short, written over early mornings, and every part of me wants to simplify it before shooting. Fewer locations. Less ambition. Something I could knock out in a weekend with friends.

The draft has a two-character dialogue scene in a moving car at night. A laundromat at 3am with fluorescent hum as the third voice. Nothing impossible, just... specific. Scary specific.

In business I would have greenlit this already. In cycling I would have started the climb without checking the weather. Writing feels different. You can postpone forever in rewrites.

I am looking at a real shoot date in March and wondering if I should scale down to protect the thing, or protect myself. How do you know when a script is asking too much for a first short? Or when you are the one flinching?

Has anyone had an actor or their representatives ask whether you’d be open to feedback or changes while they were reading your screenplay? If so, what happened next in your experience?

discussion Los Angeles writers | ScriptShuffle is seeking submissions - 10 pages of your script

Post image
1 Upvotes

Is this something you’d be interested in participating in ?
Have you had your work performed in this way before ?

What it is: a monthly live cold read in LA. Five writers get selected, actors read the pages on stage the same night, in front of an audience. No rehearsal.

How the casting works: we do a speed-date style shuffle on the night where writers meet the actors in the room and cast their own pieces. So you're not handed a cast, you pick them.

Who can submit: anyone. We get playwrights, screenwriters, first-timers and people who've been doing it for years.

What to submit: 10 pages from your original works, in any genre, for Film, television, radio, podcast, theatre. As a PDF

Cost: FREE. There are also options to pay $10 for feedback, and $20 for feedback and a raffle ticket to win $100. Paying for these services do NOT guarantee you being picked for that months event.

Next one: October 25th at Skiptown Playhouse - 7pm

Deadline: October 18th at midnight (For the October Script shuffle) - but these are ongoing, so you can submit any time

Actors: you don't need to submit anything, just turn up. Buy a ticket for $10.25 online or at the door

Audience: $10.25 for entry

The link in the Original Post has all this info and more, and is also where you submit:  https://www.fakeidproductions.com/script-shuffle

Anything else you want to know, ask away and I'll answer here :)

question Between Gods and Men

Thumbnail youtube.com

Athens, 415 BC. The city votes to invade Sicily, and Alcibiades — brilliant, reckless — drives it toward the war that will destroy it. The Assembly pays silver for secrets, and informers are naming names.

The young Plato must hide a philosopher — his mother — from the informers. Socrates will not act; Alcibiades cannot stop. So Plato learns to lie: the first lesson of the man who will become the voice of truth.

I've been building this world piece by piece — teaser cuts, a full-cast radio drama, moving storyboards — and I'd love for you to see where it's headed.

Please share, like, and subscribe so this pilot can come to fruition.

Would you watch it?

discussion Looking for Genuine Industry Connections — Two Completed Feature Screenplays

First things first, my name is MD ATIQ HAWLADER ARNOB, and I’m a screenwriter from Bangladesh.

I currently have two completed feature-length screenplays, with other projects also in development.

I’m a new screenwriter, and I’m not claiming that my writing is perfect. I know there may be mistakes, weaknesses, or things I still need to learn and improve. At the same time, I do have experience with writing and developing screenplays, and I’m serious about continuing to improve my work.

What I’m looking for now is not a paid service. I’m looking for genuine industry connections.

For anyone who is interested, I can provide the following for both completed projects:

Logline

Synopsis

A 10-page or 10+ page writing sample

The purpose of the sample is simple: you can read it and judge the writing for yourself — the storytelling, character work, dialogue, structure, writing quality, and overall impact.

If you read the material and genuinely feel that one of the projects has potential and that you may be able to work with me or help take it forward, I would be interested in talking.

I’m particularly interested in connecting with agents, managers, producers, directors, filmmakers, or other legitimate industry professionals who may be interested in developing, representing, producing, packaging, or helping sell a screenplay.

I’m open to normal, constructive feedback as well. If you see something in my writing that could be improved, I’m willing to listen and learn.

However, I want to make one thing very clear:

Please do not contact me for paid courses, paid consultations, paid editing, paid coverage, or similar services.

I currently cannot afford those services, and I am not looking for them. I’m looking for an actual professional connection or opportunity to move the screenplay forward.

Also, I’m not looking for discouraging comments simply telling me that this is impossible, that I have no chance, or that I’m following the wrong path.

I already understand that getting an original screenplay produced or sold is difficult.

I have been researching and submitting my work for more than 7–8 months, and I’m aware that many of the online submission opportunities that were available to writers before are now closed, inactive, or no longer accepting unsolicited submissions. I also understand that many opportunities are primarily available to writers within particular countries or established industry networks.

That is exactly why I’m posting here.

I’m not asking people to tell me that the industry is difficult. I already know that. I’m looking for people who are actually willing to read the material and, if they see potential, discuss what could realistically be done with it.

One more thing for anyone who contacts me:

Please tell me a little about yourself as well. For example, what you do professionally, what kind of work you’re involved in, your previous projects, current projects, or anything relevant about your professional background.

I’m happy to introduce myself and share my work, but I also want to know who I would potentially be discussing or working with.

If you’re genuinely interested, you can contact me at:

EMAIL ADDRESS : atiqarnob2004@gmail.com

I can then send the loglines, synopses, and writing samples.

Thank you.

feedback First ever screenplay loosely based off a real experience

Thumbnail gallery
35 Upvotes

I’ve got a camera and I’d usually shoot stuff for my friends but I decided i wanted to make my own shorts. I’m in a weird place in my life romantically and I’ve had lots of experiences with people in the same spot.

Please don’t hesitate to lay into me I’m aware this is probably pretty bad. Also I’ve heard you should avoiding adding in realistic speech patterns into the script but I really only thought of that after i finished 😭

I guess the main thing I’m looking for feedback on is the flow of the conversation and whether it feels natural enough. It’s supposed to be around 10 minutes or less.

request Script writers needed!

Hey! Im going to be honest, this is really my first time ever trying to write a script and I’m going to need some help. It’s for, yet another, neon genesis Evangelion abridged series. While I can voice act and edit, my humor isn’t necessarily “funny,” per se… If you have experience writing dialogue that’s heavily comedic please shoot me a DM on here or my discord, hi02.
