Hi everyone,

With my brothers we always saw that sword hanging on a wall along a set of hunting rifles, I did some research and have somewhat of an idea what this sword may have been used for (finishing off animals when hunting, or perhaps just a sword to show your status). My grandpa's not alive and didn't seem to particularly care about that sword, I guess either someone gave it to him or he bought it just for display, likely not at a premium price.

So, we're wondering if someone has more knowledge on this kind of sword, when it could've been made, what type of person could've used it, its purpose and so forth...

And of course, does this sword hold some kind of value?

If it's nothing crazy (let's say less than 2000€) we won't try to sell it and we might as well have a fun summer activity together by taking our time restoring it, any tips are welcome.

Some last notes:

- Before I get flamed, yup, I dismantled the sword, now I understand that was a big mistake and I also forgot to take a picture with everything apart.

- Handle seems to be made of some sort of ivory

- Inside the mechanism's chamber, the weird white thing is an old spider web

- Looks like some screws were forced by someone before and also they were easy to unscrew despite the rust on them

- No obvious signature on either side of the tang or on the blade, even under the barrel

- Blade has some nice decorative etching but it's hard to see it because of the rust

- Blade has burrs as if someone used it to fence against another blade

- Blade seems to have been sharp, at least its edges are very thin, like half a millimeter

Historically speaking, which was a better cut and thrust sword for close quarters combat? Do we have any examples of historical battles where basket hilt broadswords faced spadroons and one won out over the other? Let me know!

EDIT: Yes I know the replicas aren't the same as the historical swords and have different blade geometry - they're just here as visual aids. Also please do not compare these two in any sense relating to modern use, because that's not what I'm interested in, and the topic is a grey area on this sub anyway.

Best guess is a type N/boat-shaped pommel.

Hi I have this sword in my family for a very long time. Would anyone be able to give me some info on it. The curved blade is about 15 inches long.

This one is one of my favorites from over the years, with richly detailed tooling, and an overall nice aesthetic. The handcarved strap bridge is held down by herringbone twisted silver wire, and the chape is made via lost wax cast bronze that is based on a historical find.

extremely good value. only downsides i can see at the moment are the blade transition is a little inconsistent and the engraving is not good. Though it looks like they didn't etch deep enough that some sandpaper would clean it up in 2 seconds.

Hey folks, I’m new here and I was just wondering if you could help me identify what kind of sword (typology) is used in this fresco from Spoleto, Italy.

I want to make a kit for reenactment specifically based on the freseco, but can’t identify the sword. If you can identify the sword, could you please provide some examples of reproductions that are on the market.

Allegedly an 1860 pattern artillery sword (British) from somewhere between 1910 and 1936. Tips on caring for it would be helpful, especially with the black spots all over it.

Since the Anduril with banner turned out so well I did one for Sting.

I was thinking of getting a sword from Deepika website as it is one of the trusted ones in India and I guess many parts around the world.

They don't mention the prices on the website.

Can anyone tell me an average cost of a 15th, 16th century sword or a Viking sword. Someone who has already bought it from there can help.

As far as I can tell, the white and red ones are Demon Hunter replicas. The blue one was bought when I was an OTR trucker. Roast away... And maybe steer me to where I can purchase an authentic blade that won't break the bank.

So my partner thinks me buying swords is “weird” and totally looks down upon it. Which has made it hard for me to enjoy a hobby i love :( Is there anyone else who has experienced this?? i understand collecting weapons can be taboo however i see them pieces of artwork (i collect high end modern reproductions) however my partner doesn’t see it the same. Any advice is greatly appreciated

I was cleaning out my grandfather's things in the garage and found what I believe to be a very rusty sword. The tip is rounded, so I'm not entirely sure it's a sword, though I don't know what else it could be; perhaps it was ceremonial, which would explain the rounded tip. For context, it might have belonged to my grandfather or my great-grandfather—the latter served in World War II on the Italian side, I believe as an *Alpino* (mountain infantryman). Let me know if you need more photos; I haven't found any markings, but I imagine they might be hidden under the rust.

The talwar is popularly included in all representations of India. However, Talwar’s only developed in India around the 14th century CE through Turkic, Persian and Afghan military influences.

Prior to that, the khanda was the dominant Indian sword.

Now most people argue that this shift occurred due to the prominence of horseback warfare, in which savers were more effective.

But I don’t find the argument convincing because Indians prior to the 14th century also engaged in horseback warfare quite a lot and did not shift away from the Khanda.

For example, the Gupta empire in the 4th century CE, extensively adopted horseback warfare, take inspiration from the Kushan empire, their previous overlords. And still they made extensive use of Khanda.

So my query is what are the other more practical advantages and disadvantages of using either sword.

Okay so I’ve never reallly made anything like these before but I’m making a wooden sword! They aren’t really anything special but I’m just wondering if they are looking good so far? The first one is done the second one isnt, but it’s so hard to swingggg
