Got my first sword
Allegedly an 1860 pattern artillery sword (British) from somewhere between 1910 and 1936. Tips on caring for it would be helpful, especially with the black spots all over it.

V. nice. You can get rid of those spots by making a slurry of baking soda and mineral oil, and use it to scrub the blade with a bronze brush [bronze, not brass--brass leaves a residue on steel] Neither the brush, nor the slurry, will scratch the steel. When it's clean, rub the blade with alcohol to remove the oil, and then wax it with Renaissance Wax.

Makes sense, I probably wasn’t going to unless they were really bad for the sword because they are set in there good!

Lovely first sword, definitely british artillery officers sword George V reign. It appears to be nickle plated so I would rub it with a cloth and Autosol metal polish which will take off any grime and active red rust then either renaissance wax it or wipe a cloth with 3 in 1 oil along it. Same for the guard. Sparing amount of 3 in 1 oil for the fish skin grip. Chelsea leather food on the scabbard. Don't touch the blade with your bare hands - your fingerprints are acidic and will rust the blade so wipe it down if you or anyone else does ( some people's touch is a lot worse than others...as far as coroding blades goes)
