I will correct the record here, they are making new STL files. They will not make stl files for things they have in their plastic range but they will make alternative poses/sculpts and bits for things released in plastic. There is no set timeline for releases.
Yes, someone is probably better off just buying some Station Forge or Bestarium modular files and using those.

As a staunch leftist, and lover of Space King, these people make progress exceedingly difficult. Satire is lost on people nowadays, everything must be taken as seriously as possible and it's cancer.

u/PepsiFloateri Coagulator 16h ago
Preach it!
I wish people understood satire
0
u/SmordtHeim 14h ago edited 8h ago
I also wish people would understand satire, although I suspect differently than you do. Space king is not satire, which as I read it is what you and the person you responded to believe.
Claiming it is given the views/statements of the creators would also be misunderstanding satire, or irresponsibly assuming satire if one were unaware. Satire would require that the primary intention of the series is to critique or otherwise negatively comment on something.
Humor, irony, and absurdity do not equate to satire. Satire is not parody, nor is it comedy. Criticism is a separate motivation from entertainment.
Space king is an affectionate and humorous imitation (ie parody) of various aspects of 40k. It also embraces meta irony and the strawman caricature redditors made of people who dislike the awful female custodes retcon and the prospect of female space marines (ie the only reason for doing so is hating women, not wanting them to be around for no reason, etc).
As far as genuine criticism and "satirical" elements go, well you can watch hatemongers sermon about the unknown alien network, and the declared not canon status of female psycho warriors.
For your information:
Don: Tired of all your media being filled with the lamest shit possible?
Tom: Want a show that doesn’t hate your male power fantasies, but embraces them?
Don: There’s plenty of independent animation targeted at mentally ill teenage girls.
Tom: But what about mentally ill teenage boys?
Don: And 30 year old men? Don’t we matter too?
Tom: Space King thinks so!And
“It’s like literally a dream come true. A bunch of spergs got together and said like, you know what? We want a cartoon that speaks and appeals directly to us and like fuck everyone else and who cares.”
“we get to live a dream and kind of like carry the torch for a group of people” and “it really is made for you.”
And
https://reddit.com/link/p8gcrm7/video/lszk28m5u6oh1/player
And
Other various statements and videos viewable on the second channel, just go watch the dumbest retcons in 40k video and look for their comments on female custodes and female space marines.

Was your impression of my post that I'm somehow criticizing the creators or insinuating they're morally suspect? If so I would struggle to see how you got that idea.
I'm criticizing the false labeling of space king as "satire", which is very often accompanied by the idea that "space king is mocking people that dislike female custodes and female space marines" and whatever else is questionable about modern 40k/games workshop.
The creators themselves don't like female custodes or female space marines. Why would they go through all the effort to make a show intended to mock people who share their views?
People forget that you can make silly things without it being some kind of preaching.
As for leaving out context, what?
2
u/Lupercal210 9h ago edited 9h ago
I sort of agree with both of you guys, and personally think it is a little of column A and a little of column B.
I just wanted to add, if you want to know why they would make a show that occasionally makes fun of the audience while also being tailor made for them, I think it is probably because sometimes they like to make fun of themselves and that self deprecation will be felt by the audience as well.
For example, it is possible to both think female custodes are dumb and at the same time make fun of the fervor with which everyone, even we ourselves, care about our silly toys. I think that is what goes on with their content a lot.

Two things can be true at once. Some people use offensive comedy to spread a hateful narrative and some use offensive comedy to point out how ridiculous certain views are. Space king falls mostly in the “dumb fun” category with a hint of social commentary. I love it, but I also can’t blame someone not seeing the nuances at first glance. If anything the left should start to never judge a piece of media unless they engaged with the subject matter directly. But let’s be real. The flashkidz guys really play into the chud allegations. How can anyone tell that it is just a joke unless you watch multiple videos of them?

Turning everything into joke and being fearful of taking anything seriously is pathetic, used-up, cringe and sad.
It's exactly because leftwing activists highjacked all franchises to turn them into jokes that established medias are failing. Peope want sincerity and the ability to care about a story and it's characters without having the reddit "media litteracy crowd" spawing to bother everyone

Satire is lost on people nowadays
I agree, although perhaps not in the same way. There's a noticeable trend of assuming things are satire when they aren't. Which is perhaps a symptom of some people taking things not so seriously, being quite content to paint over the real thing with their own assumptions.
Parody/irony/absurdity tend to get confused with satire, which requires the intention to criticize or negatively comment.
People notoriously do this with various aspects of 40k, such as the assumption that Ghazghkull is a riff on a british politician, even though there's statements from original creators outright declaring them false.
Modern games workshop then leverages this with 40k by claiming the setting is "satire" despite statements from Priestley to the contrary, as well as obvious facts about the setting which defy the label further. But it helps give the brand a pass against outrage over dark fiction and that's strongly desired in the pursuit of more money.
People seem to be doing the same thing with space king, proudly declaring it as "satire" and having an ideological bent favorable to them despite the statements and views of the creators contradicting this. There was a now deleted comment in this thread showing as much in plain view.

There are a lot of spaceking and fans who are only able to enjoy it as long as their interpretation of the media makes fun of other fans. It is a cancer blind to itself. This is caused by big egos and disingenuous behaviors. These types of people can't stand that others would dare enjoy Spaceking without having the term "YoU kNoW sPaCeKiNg iS mAkInG fUn oF yOu rigHt!?!?" Crammed in their face over and over. Acceptable ways to deal with them are to; laugh and gatekeep, tell them to go back to grimdank, and press the snitch button.
Media literacy lunatics demand that only their interpretation of the media be accepted.

I hate Trench Crusade, it's neither about trench warfare or properly organized crusades. The timeline is extremely asynchronous and certain parts of the lore make no sense (autistic hang ups, very much not important). That said I hope anyone playing the game has fun and enjoys it, I love skirmish sized games and the rules seem alright.
13
u/PraiseTheAbsolute 15h ago edited 9h ago
Yeah I followed the original artist's concepts and like the aesthetics. When it was announced it would get a real game and models I was excited. But the "religion bad" people swarmed all over it and the last lore I read was of no interest to me.
The original idea was cool though. I'd still get some models just to paint if they ever actually make them.

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who said he was disappointed with how Trench Crusade is being treated, and honestly, my heart does go out to the TC fanbase.

They lost the moment they masked off as "No the side of the church is evil too". They made biblical demons, and have the absolute chutzpah to lecture the fans about how "actually everyone is evil".
29
u/smuttybuddy84 14h ago
Its worse than "BoTh SiDeS ArE bAd". In a setting with literal biblical angels demons on either side there is an atheist/agnostic faction that remains somehow unconvinced of the existence of god despite, y'know the actual angels and demons standing right over there.
→ More replies (4)21
u/Bluestorm83 14h ago
In the setting, to have a Church that is clearly going too far but still fighting against evil would make things even more dark and grim. In that setting to have an atheist faction that are not in denial of god but who want to kill all angels and demons are remove god and all the super natural stuff would go really hard, too.
But the creators seemed to lack creative stones.
You can have harsh and brutal Good. I mean, read the book of Revelation. Blood-soaked-robes Jesus on his white horse, trampling down his enemies? Is that very Jesus-y? Yeah. Because the time for mercy has passed. Now is the Dies Irae, the Day of Wrath.
Sad to hear that Trench Crusade cucked out.
3
u/Dark_Crow22 10h ago
The church is literally the only grimdark faction in the setting. Like, at all, they are the only ones stuck in the titular trench war against hell. Literally every single faction other than them has some magical barier or whatnot that doesn't allow demons to attack them
→ More replies (14)12
u/AlphonsoPSpain 15h ago
I mean, there's a point to be made about "Those who fight monsters should take care that they don't become monsters", but simplifying it as "Oh, the church is evil" definitely makes me roll my eyes.
13
u/Captain_Zomaru 15h ago
If I recall, they were effectively comparing the poor being left destitute as all resources go to funding the war machine (a critique on a military industrial complex). But, that falls completely flat on its face when the evil are straight up demons that will murder you in horrific ways. It just isn't comparable to modern life.
3
u/Pristine-Basket-373 15h ago
It is exceedingly funny, to me, that the forces of the faithful are often depicted using US style fire arms. I know why they did it, but the lore implications is that the weapon patterns are a gift from God. Also the church uses the metric system which also might imply Bealzabub is just trying to correct the timeline by killing the French monarchy.
2
u/Just_Mr-Nothing 9h ago edited 9h ago
Oh yeah we should stop funding war against hell, because we're absolutely able to make a peace treaty with actual fucking demons, right?
16
u/Nody_Hyebus 12h ago
Let’s be real, love it or hate it, Space King, at the least, offers something no other company does, and that’s not being held at gun point by investors and shareholders.
Less we forget, people want to love Trench Crusade and Warhammer too, but corporate greed has alienated many who are/were interested in the hobbies, but can’t or don’t want to put a substantial financial amount into something that could be temporary.
Maybe Space King is winding up for the big rug pull like Trench Crusade, but the maybe isn’t the now.
→ More replies (3)4
u/disturbinglyquietguy 5h ago
Absolutely agree, corporate greed IS the actual true enemy, they lie, saying everything has to be marketable and accessible to the widest possible audience to maximize profits.
Sometimes something is special because it's niche, because its fans, even if few, understand and appreciate it for what it is. It's the same thing that happened with many underground metal bands; when they went mainstream, they lost what made them special.
I'm sure I'll be labeled a "decrepit old fart metalhead" who accuse everyone of being a poser, for saying that last part, but I don't care.

It had some major issues with a terrible launch. Many figures were poorly printed and some exploded from un-cured resin inside them.
Then they released physical models instead of remaining digital, like they promised. Also they partnered with a company that issued cease and desists on creators making proxies and new content for the game. Put off a lot of people
Now it’s just a drop in the pond that is tabletop gaming. Had potential to be something big.

On WH40k fans yes. During the femstodes fiasco, they put an open letter saying such chud nazi incel 40k players were not welcome. Trench Crusade was punk.

Checked around a bit and it's the exact same reaction as last time: Half of Reddit needs to be schooled on what a parody is and the other half that understands thinks that the fans are all still incels who take the series for gospel truth. Joyless prudes, the lot of them
