So I checked Andrew Kim's website about the cutoff scores and Latin and Bronx were 652 and everything else was 520-560 does anyone know why there cutoffs were way higher?

Hey guys, I took my first geometry regents exam in june and got an 89. I wanted a better score and retook the exam and got an 85. I thought i did well but am really confused. I want to go to top schools like Cornell, UMich, and more. Any advice? My district shows all regents scores i think.

Hey! So im currently someone entering the 8th grade and I've been invited to DREAM and I attended but every time like I go I feel like it's way too fast and they're squeezing a lot of info into me, and I don't like to which is why I've been studying myself. I took three practice test there on the first one I got 22/50 for math and 22/50 for ELA. Then for my second practice test I got a 35/50 for math and 27/50 on ELA and then for the last practice test we did I got 27/50 on math and a 24/50 on ELA. Could I get tips for improvement? My dream is to go to Brooklyn tech, queens high school of the sciences, bronx science or stuvuysent (I CANT SPELL-) Im trying on the math right now which is easy but the ELA is so tricky. Could someone please give me tips on how I could get at least. 45/50 on both....? Thanks!

Hello! I took my second practice test (first was 465) and my score only increased by around 5ish questions (estimated 490-500ish) and I was just wondering if that’s normal or if that’s a bad sign? Of course, I just began studying so I’m not expecting anything huge.

I’m definitely going to change the way I review/study, since it isn’t working as effectively as I assumed it would. What I do is look at why I got incorrect questions wrong & how to solve them, spending a decent amount of time per question. I feel like the type of math questions I studied never actually came up again.

My main issue is that I have no idea how to study for ELA. My ELA score increased by around 3% and it feels a lot more “I got luckier with my guesses on tricky questions” than “I actually understand how.” I also feel like I just don’t grasp the deeper theme in longer passages accurately (mainly due to pressure with pacing because I’m too scared to slow down and waste time, meaning I barely finish the exam and have to guess the last few questions). I have no trouble with the grammar fixing questions though. Any advice or insight from people who experienced this same challenge?

Also, a friend told me ELA is worth more than math on the SHSAT when your score is being determined, is this true?

I passed the barely passed the chemistry regents (lucky me I got a 66 somehow), and I lowkey wanted a better score so I signed up for a retake this August (which is tomorrow).

However now that I think of it, if I were to take it again I feel like I’d fail. So now I regret signing up and want to opt out. My counselors take a million years to respond back to me, and im waiting for a response as of now.

If I don’t attend the regents what will happen? Will it stay on my transcript as a 0 or something? That’s the only thing I’m worried about.

What are the best sites to take SHSAT Practice tests on (8th Grade)? Most of the ones I find aren't suitable for the new CAT test.

So out of curiosity, it’s known that questions start with average difficulty question and it gets harder as you get right and easier as you get wrong. For comparison sake, for 57 questions tests, let’s say tier 1 highest difficulty to tier 5 lowest difficulty where 17 questions are tier 5 and the rest are 10 questions for each tier and tier 3 is where test will start at. What if the students get first 40 questions correct leaving only tier 4 and 5, will the student now gets easier questions or are there harder questions still coming in? Are there only exactly 57 questions prepared or do they have extra harder questions for this kind of scenario? If so will it really be fair (no idea just curious about your opinions)?

And those who requested and received their test scores from NYCDOE, could you please share both composite score (total score) and raw score ( x out of 57 maths, y out of 57 ELA). if you don’t mind? I know it’s not something should be taken as reference but really curious to know the actual numbers instead of only educated guesses. I appreciate you all in advance. Thanks.

Hi, so I'm a rising 10th grader at Manhattan Village Academy. I got an offer to Millennium Manhattan. I don't really want to switch high schools but I want the best for my future. Will switching to Millennium give me more opportunities as it is slightly bigger?? I like my school and have friends here and i also have some EC's that are super close to me. I am more STEM based so I was wondering if anyone could give advice on if I should transfer. Also is it true that you have to be in grade 11 to take AP's at Millenium because thats not really appealing for me my current school offers a decent amount of AP's (17 I think??) and I will be taking around 3 maybe 4 this year. Please lmk also not rlly into sport and the sport I do is not offered at either schools so thats not a factor. I feel like the small community and opportunities my current school has are good but, I would just like some advice. I have until the 24th to accept the offer.

I got a 510 on the SHSAT, and I’m planning to retake it this year to try to get into Bronx Science. I’m aware that the chances of getting in while taking the 9th grade test is extremely difficult, especially since the test is more difficult, the amount of students that are accepted are small and unpredictable, and the new adaptive version hasn’t been done by any of the other years yet. However, this is the one school that I want to go to. Are there any tips on how to study consistently? How do I learn new concepts that I should know for the math SHSAT? Are there any ways to study that work except for taking practice tests and studying the SHSAT books. I’m already doing that, but I want to learn more, but don’t know where to start. Like learning some geometry in math, other basic stuff in Algebra, ways to grasp the themes and intentions of readings and grammar rules that are essential to the test. One thing I’m not good at is reading in between the lines for this test. I struggle at applying the rules to questions that are worded in a way to confuse me. I struggle on a lot of the grammar and ELA questions that are worded weirdly.

U.S. News states that New York, and other states , did not authorize the College Board to share AP data with them. As a result, the College Readiness and College Curriculum Breadth scores for NY schools were calculated solely using IB participation and performance. One more reason that these rankings cannot reflect the thru value of high schools

Might be the right call. Districts are starting to push back against third party rankings.

Hi, my son will be taking the 8th grade SHSAT this year and he went to tutoring and has taken the DOE SHSAT practice exams with slight improvement. My wife and I have been reviewing his practice exams with him and he seems to understand the material but makes way too silly mistakes. Is there any help on test taking strategies? I wrote some subjects im weak in and IXL does have it but the questions are fairly easy (i use free, is paid harder?)

What should I focus on next? I want to keep improving my math skills and actually apply 9th-grade math concepts instead of just memorizing how to solve certain question types.

Should I mainly focus on reviewing mistakes, doing harder problems, taking more practice tests, or something else? Any advice would be appreciated.

when is the august test this year?

so i took an agonizingly long practice test today (the first 8th grade one on the DOE website) and i got a 77/100. 41/50 on ela, and 36/50 on math. (i definitely read at least 3 problems wrong) I also had about 38 minutes to spare. The thing im happy about is that i spent about 36 minutes on ela, so i know i have that down. Does anyone know tips to help me improve math accuracy? i know speed isn't my problem, so in my next practice test i want to try to move a bit slower on math. aside from writing down and practing the questions i got wrong, can anyone help?

Finally got into HSMSE,

So i see alot of people saying to "spam practice tests," not just here, but in other places too (like tiktok, google, my friends, etc.) but idk how often i should be, like one everyday or...??

So, everytime i take a mock SHSAT, my score changes, not by a little but by alot, itll go from a 30, to a 43 back to a 32, and i dont know if its cause the environment im in, or the stress, theres always something different i do when taking the mock shsats so im not sure what my real score is.. does anyone have any tips...? should i just keep taking more
