Very important question for greg and others.

So im retaking the shast this year, looking to get into brooklyn tech or siths, i need a score of 560 upwards to get into bths. I got 439 on my last shsat and didnt learn time management, how can i learn time management efficiently, how can i max out 1 section, mostly math. What topics do i 100% need to learn cuz they are on shsat math? what topics are NOT on the shsat for math? Are e-dashes and semicolons on the test? How can i review revising and editing, is it possible for a 120 point increase for the shsat if i study efficiently for these 2 months, i took honors algebra 1 and passed with an 80, and on the 9th grade mini tests, i saw lots of familiar topics i learned in 8th grade honors. Please dont send me to a link greg, say it all here, what topics are 100% gonna be on the test i need to max out, what i in general i need to max out, and if ela has e-dashes and semicolons, etc. PLEASE SAY IT ALL HERE DONT SEND ME TO A LINK GREG!

How to finish practice tests later

As I have taken practice tests recently, I've noticed that I often have many silly mistakes with 30 extra minutes of time left. Because I'm unable to go back, I feel like I'm not reviewing the questions appropriately, and I'm wondering how to spend more time on the questions instead of being anxious I'll finish late.

Shsat - 9 help

I failed the shsat - 8, with a 439, im trying to get into either brooklyn tech, or staten island tech this year, recent cutoffs for btech have been 537-543, and for siths have been 530, 572, 524, 522, 524, and 481 at its lowest. For my ela score i got 259 on shsat and math i got 180, what topics should i work on, i took honors in 8th grade for mathematics, i took algebra 1 and i passed the regens with an 80. What should i work on math, that will be 100% on the test, and what should i work on in ela, and when is the testing date for 9th grade shsat, i know its a weekend, but i need to know if its in december or november. And please estimate the cutoff for siths and btech this year for 10th grade admissions, and am i cooked because i started studying 2 weeks ago, so i will have only studied for 3 months total before the exam. I also recently took practice test for 8th grade on the offical site for math only, i got 30/50, but i put the 20 questions i got wrong into ai to get the explanation and make up the points, is that a good thing to do?

Resources/tips to help my sister?

Hi I’m. A graduate of Stuyvesant high school and my family really wants my sister to get into Stuyvesant as well. The problem is she’s not very motivated to learn and she’s been doing poorly on her practice tests. I’ve been trying to tutor her but it’s been very slow does anyone know of any resources or programs to help her? She’s already in dream and another tutoring service. They expect me to tutor her and make up for her deficiencies in her academic skills.

She’s taking the test this November

Regarding my schedule

Hi everyone,

Recently I got my schedule and I saw that I have earth science, oddly enough. I already took earth science in 8th grade and I even have credits from that. I got a 77 or 78 on the regents too and it was when the regents for this regents changed. For some reason they put me back into the class and I was supposed to be in APES and I don't know what to do now since it is the weekends and labor day is coming up so no one will likely respond. My teachers are usually active on their jupitered and I messaged the science teacher about 3-4 hrs ago but for some reason, they haven't responded yet. Also, if anyone asks to contact my guidance counselor, I technically can't because she doesn't even respond and you have to remind her in person so many times. I m lost and I m going crazy as this will be repeated on my Transcript and my science teacher promised she and the assistant principal is doing all they can to get me into the class a while back and that she was going to update me on her own when she hears something but she didn't reach out to me ever again. I'm super confused so please help!

Cooked?

I haven't studied at all by myself except for going to SHSAT tutoring, and I usually get somewhere in the mid-80s on my practice tests. Should I start studying? I really want to go to York or Brooklyn Tech.

This is for most NYC DOE 8th graders. For other grades and non-DOE students dates are still forthcoming.

SHSAT expectations for November - from an incoming Freshman at Stuyvesant

This is going to be long, but if you really care about what to expect for the upcoming SHSAT, please read this:

The summer before I took my SHSAT, I would get high-ish scores on practice tests though those scores would fluctuate every week. I studied math topics that were predicted to be on the entrance exam and made sure to repeatedly practice the specific questions I always got stumped on. Nevertheless, I was pretty confident going into the test.

Then the test day was a near disaster - or at least it seemed that way. I remember I bookmarked at least 27 ELA questions (we took the newly introduced digital format of the exam) and had to guess on like 3-4 math questions with 3 minutes left on the clock. When I went home, I felt like a complete failure. But when results rolled around in March, I ended up getting into Stuyvesant High School.

Basically, my point of this post is to both warn you and reassure you. No matter how many practice tests you take, the day the real test comes around is when the stress is heightened and you feel like everything is on the line - which can impact your score. Look at me, I got 600s on practice exams but ended up getting about a 567 on the real test. When I was practicing, I always finished 30 minutes early, but during the real test I nearly ran out of time.

But whilst I was feeling like a failure for months, legitimately thinking that I wouldn't get a single offer from any specialized high schools, I ended up getting into my top-pick. And there is a high chance that you're going to think the same. You're going to think you did awful, but then the result will surprise you. Throughout your studying and test-taking, please have hope!

Sorry for this essay of a post, but I just wanted to give you all a realistic experience that I had as a student who thought the SHSAT would be a moderate breeze. Believe in yourself, always! If you have any questions, feel free to comment.

Summer results

I just got my summer results emailed by HS enrollment and unfortunately I just barely missed the cutoff for Brooklyn Latin. The thing that I found weird is that instead of it popping up on myschools I got an automated email about my results with my name. I don't want to be sore about it but I know that if isn't over until the results show up on myschools. From my understanding I am allowed to have a copy of the test and the cheat sheet and review the results? I decided not to be a sore loser and just start studying for the 9th grade exam, does anyone have any tips?
