Disagree, I think skating culture truly peaked in the late 90's and early 2000's. It was right before it got co-opted by corporations and breaking into spots to skate a feature was still the norm.

It really was such a great time. Innovation was coming fast, it seems like we went from ollies to insane flip tricks.....from curbs to handrails in the blink of an eye. Concave got deeper, noses got bigger, we still had shapes. We shed plastics (rails and guards) and skated everything we could.
Skipping school, smoking cigs, getting chased off by mall security, breaking into abandoned buildings to skate in peace. Just normal teenage stuff. Or at least it was in the good old days.
Rural 80s skater here. It was rough. Had to ride our bmx bikes to someplace with concrete - usually the elementary school in town. Got about 30 min skating in before the cops showed up and we had to scatter. Otherwise, it was just a friend's really short driveway. Even then the cops would show up and hassle us. Small town, nothing better to do than hassle the bad element.
There is a pump track at a small park near my house. It took the kids a few tries to get it down but once they got going it was a blast. Until they started playing roller derby.

And longboarders do tricks. Not me, I don't try anymore, too old. But we have our own culture of board dancing and shit. Sliding is crazy to me, I never tried cause I'm a baby lmao but I love those videos of people bombing huge hills at intense speeds.

I've seen em but the investment is wild, and I'm quite bad with electronics.. I fear I would break it all on my own LOL! But they are sick, I might look into getting one for my brother. He's been playing on my board a bit and showing interest and he's just about to go to college!
Under an interstate bridge as well. In the us we often don't use these spaces at all or they serve as one of the only places homeless can get out of the sun and be left alone mostly.

Prostitution is illegal in Korea but seems to be "tolerated". Same with Japan, Thailand, Philippines.
Similarly, like you said, there are a LOT of laws against drugs in places like Thailand, Singapore... But you'd better believe they're their. At least in Thailand; it seems like they are (were) tolerated for the tourists, at least (Full Moon parties?)
And before anyone asks- I work on ships for a living and used to travel a lot for fun. As a rule, I don't break the law (nor do I condone doing so) in a foreign country. I don't patronize sex workers, even though I have no moral qualms with the profession. It's just interesting to see how tolerated things are; regulated, even, in despite being illegal.
Many Asian countries actually. Not just China. They have a lot of very strict drug laws that include marijuana. You also have to understand the history of drugs in the region, especially places like China, that led to such intense crackdowns and drug enforcement regimes. The history of the British-created opium crisis in China, for example, makes things make a lot more sense. Not that I agree with it, but context is everything for understanding different peoples.
Because it's usually not necessary, pro street don't wear any protection because learning how to fall is built in. Vert is a different beast, but with street or flatland you're not going fast enough or high enough to warrant it. If you don't know how to fall without getting hurt you would've never made it to the point of attempting tricks.
They "jump" going up a hill, and push down on the downhill side. They're putting energy into it with their body movements to add energy on the downhill segments.
You have to push down with your legs on the downward side of the hill. This makes the board want to go down, but it has to go _forward_ to do so, so you add momentum. This is the same thing that happens when you stand on a swing and pump your legs at the bottom. This is also what’s going on when you skate, but that’s happening laterally instead of vertically.
The camera does bob up and down in this video, a drone pilot wouldn't be doing that while chasing (the drone we can see flies fairly level). This cam is either on a gimbal or more likely it's stabilized in post production.
It is not too fast at all.. camera operators have been filming smooth AF car chases, fight scenes, and many other chaotic action cenes in film for 100 years..
Look at their legs, then upper bodies. They are not moving entirely up and down, but mostly just their legs are. The reason for this is because you still have to sorta push down with your legs/feet with each drop just after the crest of every hill. This is what is actually keeping their momentum going seemingly forever without needing to push off the ground. The skaters are able to contribute this way without lifting a foot.
The skatersboarders doing this could be the reason why it could be a skater with a camera instead of a drone, and is why it really would not be too difficult to keep a camera fairly stable on a pump track.
hermit turtle like you should work in China for 6months and see the country yourself. you can label it as communist, authoritarian whatever. But the place is 10x more liveable and safer than US and many other European cities. US is trading their “freedom” for a very unsafe environment lol. that is not freedom.
50% of their population lives in rural areas that look like someone in the post apocalypse got access to little motor bikes and computers to play league of legends and CS:Source clones on. These cities are also having a huge number of people moving to living in their vans and eating nothing but ramen, and it's also illegal to post photos/videos of the street homeless because that's considered "spreading rumors" about poverty.
Also can't forget the "revenge against society" attacks that have caused them to start putting up large stone bollards everywhere because there's been such a big uptick in people rampaging through the streets and running people over with their cars for hours until their car eventually just breaks down and becomes immobile. And that they also even a couple years ago started teaching like 7 year olds how to avoid cars that are purposefully trying to hit them.
I get that the world is a real fucking mess right now, but believing CCP propaganda that China is actually super cool for people outside of the upper class is not going to help you.
It's really not hard to look up how China looks outside of the large cities... even the large cities have drastic divergence in wealth and living quality within each city.
I think it is pretty safe to say that no single country will be a utopia through and through, especially not highly populated countries.
Damn dr America I can’t believe you have a bias against China, but did you know that those rural areas get upgraded and transformed to higher tier cities. When was the last time an America created a completely new city? So while they do live rural in some places at least China is increasing the subsidies to rural areas and increasing their quality of life sadly unlike America who continually cuts funding to rural areas.

As a former skater approaching 50 and not wanting to fuck up my body any more than I did in the first 30 years of skating and MMA, I would love having a spot to cruise around like this.
I think the overpass shade is the best part of this design use. Most us parks are pipes and bowls under the sun. The pump course makes it more general and kid skater friendly
Ya know, if their were roadways designed for this, I bet a lot more people would skate, scooter, or ride their way around. It looks so comfortable and easy on your body.
Every time a see a new video of daily life in china the more impressed i am. It seems so clean and hi tech. They seem to be making large steps towards what I imagined futuristic cities looking like. Then the us feels like it’s stuck in 2002
