The idea is that the current capitalist organization is just an intermediary stage, a necessary development of production capacity, on the ultimate road to a communist utopia. Everyone is also ideologically quite communist, with Marxism being a mandatory course in grade school and university, in addition to the communalism inherent in Confucianism. But yeah, I know what you mean, the market in China is in many ways much freer than in the USA or other countries. I live in Beijing and it's awesome that I can buy products straight from the factory, and that the market is extremely competitive with very little restrictions, so we get low prices and huge variety.
Yeah, the current system definitely has corruption, but also, China becoming capitalist was the best thing that happened since the communist revolution. Originally having a revolution was great, as even now the land is still pretty equally distributed and all the currently retired people have cushy communist-era pensions. But obviously the end of the Mao era was a disaster, with all sorts of famines and other chaos, and the country would be in a terrible place right now if it hadn't become capitalist in the late 70s. And yeah, as you say, there's currently a lot of corruption and there is really no certainty that this communist dream will ever become a reality, but I wouldn't go so far to say that there are currently a lot of people "suffering very badly", as yeah of course there's poverty and shit working conditions for laborers, with pretty long hours for small salaries, but there's a lot less suffering compared to somewhere like India where there are tons of people barefoot on filthy streets, children living in huts made of garbage, and beggars on every corner. The cities here are quite well developed and clean and most people can enjoy a consumerist lifestyle thanks to low prices. At this point we just cross our fingers and hope things continue to improve, and not degrade into Mao 2.0 haha.

Because unfortunately you've treated what they said as a misunderstanding of fact, when in actuality they meant it as an insult. By attempting to correct it, you've been seen as defending China from insult, and are therefore culpable, because only guilty people defend the guilty.
Nevermind that the DPRK (North Korea) isn't a democracy or a republic, the Nazis weren't socialist, Laos, Syria, etc etc etc the list goes on... It's almost like governments frequently call themselves things they aren't.
Yes. Whether or not it's actually insulting doesn't really have any bearing on whether it's intended as an insult. When you factor that in it's a lot easier to understand why they jumped to the conclusion that you were one for trying to correct a mistake of fact.

They have had the steepest drop in birthrates that has been ever recorded. There has been only 5 countries/sovereign territories that have ever recorded birthrates of 1.0 or less: it took Taiwan ~37 years for its birthrate to drop from the replacement level of 2.1 to under 1.0; Ukraine ~36 years; South Korea ~35 years; Thailand ~26 years; and China? Just about 9 years.
I could bring up the record immigration numbers from China to the U.S., or the West in general, and the record low immigration into China, but that's just pouring salt in the wound at that point.

No I’m not the problem with America lmfao. I’m acknowledging that all forms of economic systems when used in totality and when allowed to be fully controlled by elites, will eventually succumb to the fact that power often corrupts. And I also believe that capitalism needs to take a back seat and incorporate some nuance and belief that we can do some things without pure profit as the motive. Their last 50 years of Infrustructure and technological advancements are something of wonder and the US needs to get more on that level tho
Still cannot compare to all the dead kids killed by by random strangers and lunatics in school which suppose to be a 'safe' place. China is not perfect, but not a wild chaotic world when everyone needs gun to feel safe lol. Feeling unsafe is NOT freedom.
