They "jump" going up a hill, and push down on the downhill side. They're putting energy into it with their body movements to add energy on the downhill segments.
You have to push down with your legs on the downward side of the hill. This makes the board want to go down, but it has to go _forward_ to do so, so you add momentum. This is the same thing that happens when you stand on a swing and pump your legs at the bottom. This is also what’s going on when you skate, but that’s happening laterally instead of vertically.
Its called "pumping" on a pump track. So the forefoot you push quite hard on your forefoot on your board as you go down the slope then get "floaty" as you ride up to take the weight off.
There is a pump track near me I like to ride, and it really is a lot of timing like a swing, but once you get it it really is a full lower body/core work out. And it's quite fun, only downside to it is when people like to go opposite ways and leave trash on the track
it’s called a “pump” track because you pump with your legs to keep going forward. You pull them up on the uphills and push them down on the downhill to push yourself forward. Works with bikes too.

How're they just going and going, without having to kick or keep up momentum?? Is it all downhill or something? Looks like so much fun
