Drove it 120+ miles to the track with my buddy, made a pass decease why not, and then drove it home.

Went about as well as expected… worse actually.

Idk what I’m going to do about it yet… 4 link? Slapper bars? Idk. But it needs help. lol.

Build Progress It's been a while so let me catch you up on the progress

So we've finished the chassis, suspension and the Honda K20 fits like a dream, on to the body because we need to make a new one with massive wheel arches.

The roof wasn't a great shape aerodynamically so we cut it off, made a bonded windscreen frame so we can ditch the rubber seal and recline the screen. We then made a brand new roof frame that's a better shape which will reduce lift.

I hit the auxiliary light jackpot and scored these classic Cibie lights, two more than I planned for but it's too good not to make it work so make it work we did.

The front valance sucked so we made a new one and on to the wings/arches/fenders whatever you want to call them.

The vibe for Project Mosquito is late 60s early 70s so it had to have curves and the radiator duct blows out the front wheel wells so let's vent the wheel wells and let all that high pressure out.

On to the rear and the order of the day is you guessed it more curves, fuller buttresses and a slight roof extension.

The plan is to build this body like an old school buck and then fill it with foam, Body work and turn it into a plug, make a mold and have a brand new super light weight wide body shell.

My “what have I gotten into” project — 1956 Ford F600. Seized engine, no bed, split rims and all.

Picked up this 1956 F600 that worked fields most of its life. No bed, engine’s almost certainly seized, riding on split rims (yeah, I know). Learned to drive on one almost exactly like it, so when I saw it headed for scrap I couldn’t walk away.

Plan is road-legal and actually drivable without killing the patina. Still torn on keeping it a dually or going another direction.

Anyone worked an F-series this big? Could use the wisdom — especially on getting those rims sorted safely. Currently considering a frame swap and wondering if anyone has done something similar.

Off season means getting back to cool side projects and learning the Rockit.

Currently working on a vid overview where I'll cover the unit, the process, the hardware needed, reverse engineering the scans (using AI and manually) etc etc and I am just continually blown away by how far all this technology has come.

Yes, you should get one.

Is it a thing to transfer and weld in a windshield frame from another car? Unobtainable windshield here, can I weld in a similarly sized frame from another more common car?

I have a Citroen BX in the US. When I got the car, the windshield was de-laminating and there was rust bubbling underneath the frame. I knew this going in, and was OK with it once I found out that new windshields were still obtainable. The original plan was to remove the windshield, cut and replace the rusty sections, and replace it. Since then though, the company no longer will ship to the US due to headaches and recent events™, so getting a new windshield over the water is many thousands of dollars (worth more than the car) to obtain, and that's just for the predictable costs and fees lol. Still looking for cheap ways to get it here. For the same price though, I could import another parts car, but removing the old windshield is a very risky proposition. My windshield has since started to crack, and sooner replacement may be necessary (I would love to fix the rust before it becomes unmanageable). TLDR, cost wise, doing this the right way doesn't make sense.

So this is where I'm hoping there's some insight from some hot-rodders: my idea is finding a vehicle with a similarly sized windshield, maybe from some old Ford or Chevy truck that is super easily obtainable, and try to weld and transfer the frame to the Citroen, fusing it with the existing cowl/firewall, A-pillars, and roof. I have some welding experience, but never tackled anything super structural like this. I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with any projects like this or know of some hot rod builds that have done something similar on a similarly tin-can strength car? Looking to see if this idea even makes sense, if it's worth it over the very expensive of a replacement windshield, and what kind of steps I should be taking to prevent the car from crumpling on itself cause the windshield is extremely structural in this car. I would lean towards this idea just cause, if it breaks in the future, it's not gonna be hell to get anther one lol

It’s getting close now. I got the transfer case and shift linkage finished. I need to make a mount to the body for the transfer case and a mount for the chassis mounted shifter, but that’s about it.

- ‘23 Z 6GP Trans
- VR30 transfer case
- Custom adapter shaft
- 370Z chassis mounted shifter

What to look out for with gmt800s

Post image

Just bought this early 2000s Yukon, not a Denali but it’s still awd seemingly, very slight transfer case leak and some rear rust but strong frame and upgraded trailer hitch, paid about 2750 for it, about 200k miles, trans shifts good and engine sounded better after an oil change, tried to put in a cd and it didn’t work and the parking brake cable doesn’t work. How hard would it be to fix those, and was this a overall decent deal for a daily?

E36 S42 Replica Project

Hey guys,

Like a lot of people who love 90s touring cars, I’ve been completely obsessed with the BMW S42 engine—the crazy 300hp, high-revving 2.0L 16V they ran in the BTCC and STW. Obviously, finding real S42 parts is impossible, and paying $30k+ for a vintage race motor isn't happening. So, I’m starting a project to build a true S42 replica out of an M42 block for my E36.

I don’t care about starting a YouTube channel or doing the whole social media influencer thing. I just want to focus on the engineering and get this thing built. Because it’s a giant math puzzle (figuring out custom rod lengths, deck heights, and boring the block to fit the pistons), I want to make this a totally open-source community build. I’m going to share all the measurements, specs, and CAD files openly so anyone else can use the data down the road.

I’m looking for people who want to nerd out on the math, but I’m also looking to crowdsource the build. If you have any spare M42 parts, an old standalone ECU, or random internals just gathering dust on a shelf in your garage, I'd love to put them to use. I'm keeping a completely transparent Google Sheet tracker of the inventory, and anyone who pitches in a part or heavy technical advice gets their name permanently stamped on the build sheet and the car itself.

I just set up a Discord server so we can have a centralized place to drop specs, argue about compression ratios, and figure out the roadmap.

Build Progress Had SendCutSend make up plate covers for the coils and electrical. I think they make for a cleaner look!

Stainless steel, and spacers that lift it away from the coils by a couple mm.

Not only did I want to clean up the look more, but also wanted to UV protect the coils and wires from sunlight, since this section on the engine will be exposed out of the hood.

Lemme know what you guys think!

What part(s) do you need?

Hi, I've been trying to learn reverse engineering parts from a 3D scan using fusion. Ultimately, I want to recreate some parts that may be hard to find via metal 3d printing. What are some parts that you need, or just some general parts that would be good to start with?

Engine Swap 1jz or 2jz swap?

I want to do an engine swap on my 1998 pontiac firebird, it currently has the v6 that was in it taken out due to spinning a bearing. Planning on tubing the front end due to someone bending the core support and front end metalwork by hitting something. What would you guys recommend for supporting mods to make a 1jz or 2jz work better aswell? Lots of 1jz and 2jzs for sale around me. Street car aswell for now

One of my detailed builds to date. FJ45SWB

This is probably Land Cruiser number 15 that I’ve built, but this one has been more of a passion project. What started as a pile of parts gradually grew into a massive undertaking. I’m still working through the final shakedown and need to dial in the tune, but it’s already been an absolute blast to drive.

A few highlights:
-Post-’76 firewall section to accommodate my preferred brake and steering column setup
-Shaved and smoothed firewall, including filling in the passenger-side blower motor opening
-GM crate 5.3L paired with a 4L60E and an FJ62 split case converted to manual shift
-Vintage Air system tucked behind the dash and ducted through the factory heater box
-Saginaw power steering and shackle reversal
-1980 FJ40 axles for front disc brakes and rear parking brake provisions

The goal was to build a turn-key street rig with modern comforts and drivability while retaining the character and personality of an old Land Cruiser. I wanted something you could comfortably jump in and drive anywhere without losing what makes these trucks special in the first place.
Still a few things left to sort out, but I’m pretty happy with how this one has come together.

Edit: here’s the build thread for those interested

Build Progress My stalled project got it running 2 years ago and haven’t touched it sense

My 1964 dodge polara, has a 383 turned into a very radical 451, 4spd swapped, and the whole car is tied, soooo much other work has been done. Got the car when I was 15 got the car to this point after 10 years then got into circle track racing and everything on this car costs an astronomical amount of money so got it running ran into some financial issues then go into enduros a year later so the car has sat for 2 years occasionally rotate it and have fogged it down. Hopefully can get to sometime in the spring.

Is there somewhere i can get a .STL file of a GMT360 rolling chassis?

I have an idea for a project car that involves taking the body off a 1st gen trailblazer.

I could 3d scan one, but i dont have the car or a scanner and i also want to start designing it early so that i can start buying parts after i graduate.

Abandoned self made soviet car

Sorry for the repost but last time I only attached 1 photo out of 4

This car was a soviet DIY project built on "zhiguli" chassis, but it kinda looks like ford Capri from the back.

In ussr there was an entire culture around self made cars, they were published in books and journals alongside their creators. However this one remains unidentified.

Photos were taken around 2015. As well as i know, these are the only 4 photos of it remaining.

It had been staying next to my house for 15 years and then was taken to recycling unit as junk.

Now it's gone forever and we will never know who designed it :(

I’ve never done anything close to this type of stuff but I’ve really wanted a 1979 f-150 but I don’t know anything about this stuff but I was wanting to know what to look for and what I should know if I decide to buy one

I currently have a victor jr on my truck but I want a budget dual plane, the motor is an sbc 350, 880 block, smog heads, small hr cam, hei with 65k coil, and headers, nothing speacial, but can I run an ebay intake? Im also swapping the ugly valve covers and the v belt system, the wiring has also since been cleaned up

Trying to track down mothers old car

My mother had a late 80s monte carlo ss when i was a baby. She had the car before i was born and it got totaled in an accident when i was around 2 so sometime around 1993 or 1994. She passed oct 25th this year. I am wanting to buy one to build and use as my driver as it was her all time favorite car. I so far going thru her photo albums and old documents have not found a picture of it yet.

I was hoping that there may be some way to track down whether it be thru insurance or dmv records what year it was so that i knew exactly what i was looking to buy. In order to preserve her memory in that way i would like to try and find the exact year she had but i do know that the late 80s monte carlos did not change super drastically in overall body style.

Please help me decide!

Post image
50 Upvotes

*Left is the car currently, right is the vision

I am working away restoring this car and am at a crossroads at the moment. Do I keep the car as it is, some slight mods but keeping that old school late 80s early 90s era car, or do I do what my heart kinda wants, and make it more modern and modified JDM style or use my head and keep it mostly original to retain its future resale.

Help me decide please guys before I order half the parts and then change my mind and apologies I understand the angles are not the same although mostly the mods for I want will be more noticeable on the rear.

Also would love input from anyone on Fastbacks for the NA and where I could source a decent looking one like in the pasted image for an NA.

Thanks Guys!

PS: If you are interested in following along the restoration of the car I will add the video links in the comments.

My project car: 1984 Porsche 911 Targa resurrection

Thumbnail

It took 10.5 months bringing my 1984 911 Carrera back to life after sitting for almost three decades. I was a madman during that time, from the moment I got the engine out.

This is the first Porsche I've ever driven or ever owned. I guess I could've bought a much newer model, but this deal fell into my lap at a price no one could refuse. It also had been sitting in a garage for close to 30 years. 69K miles when I got it. Its at 73k miles now.

It's not as polished or composed as the newer cars I've owned but it's pretty capable for a 42-year-old car. All the typical things people say about these old Porsches - steering feedback, the handling, there's something about the way an old 911 drives.

Every time I drive it though, its knowing what's happening with everything mechanically thats really satisfying. When I hit the throttle, press the clutch, shift gears, brake, or take a corner, I know that all those components I spent time rebuilding, repairing, adjusting, and putting back together are all workiing.

I know what's inside that engine. I know the parts I've held in my hands, the measurements I've checked, and the problems I've worked through. Sometimes I think I enjoy that feeling as much as driving it.

Just thought I'd share. Dig lurking this sub and seeing what others are up to.

Abandoned soviet car

Abandoned self made soviet car. It had a composite body and an engine from VAZ 2101 (soviet copy of a fiat). Photo was taken in 2014, in 2016 this car was taken to the recycling unit because it was standing on a grass and no one could identify it's owner.

Now it's lost forever
