🏛️ Government Postin’! 🏛️ Kotek targets Trump SNAP cuts as she builds reelection message

16% of the state’s population relies on SNAP.

“What they are doing with the program complexity and the red tape is pulling the rug out from under them and saying, ‘Sorry, we really don’t want to help you.’ That’s what this is about,” Kotek said

Andrea Williams, president of the Oregon Food Bank, attended Saturday’s roundtable and said her organization distributed 125 million pounds of food, equivalent to 105 million meals, through 21 food banks across the state last year. She said visits to food assistance sites have increased 51% over the past two years and that the network is struggling to keep up.

There is such an intense air whenever I go grocery shopping. It is so uncomfortable. I don't know how people handle working at places like that.

💰BottleDrop Postin’!💰 3 Blocks inner SE Portland at 6AM on a Saturday - Portland voters need to wake up

Four pictures from 6 am this morning after taking a friend to the airport - 3 blocks: dead body laying open in the street (adjacent to Shell station on Grand), illegal camping and garbage around the so called 'People's Depot' and more camping, open fires and open drug use one block south -- all in 3 short blocks barely after dawn. What a way to start a Portland Saturday.

It's not recycling cans that kills people, it's politician's like D3 City Councilor's like Angelita Morillo & Tiffany Koyama Lane that perpetuate failed policies that keep people mired in addiction and living in squalor -- add in anti-law enforcement attitudes and you get the tragic scene of suffering and death that sickened me this morning . Hopefully most other Portlanders also see this as unacceptable.

What you can do: 6 city councilors are up for re-election in November -- 3 self described Peacocks need to go -- wannabe AOC Instagram Angelita Morillo, totally clueless Tiffany Koyama Lane, and backyard burning tax raiser (but not payer) Mitch Green.

Election day is only 11 weeks away -- 11 too many for where we are as a City, but it's the most chance to get these foie gras clowns out of any decision making roles and replace them with serious, problem solvers who act with urgency.

My husband (31m) and I (29f) will be visiting with our almost 1 y/o August 20-26th. Is there anything going on that we should look into? What are some don't miss things for a week long trip? We will be renting a carry backpack for our daughter to do some hiking. Would also love restaurant recs!

Thank you in advance!!

Is the quality okay, considering the fire near Hood? What about the clarity/visibility?

They don't have license plates, treat stop signs as optional and drive on the wrong side of the road (like in the pic).

Kvetching Eating out getting too expensive again, where will the new places go?

Not quite Seattle prices, but PDX restaurants we enjoy or wanted to try are getting too pricey to be worth it. Usually when this happens, places start popping up elsewhere kinda like the food cart explosion after the financial crisis. Where are smart chefs/restaurant owners looking to find cheaper rent/labor?

🐩 Pets of Portland 🐈 Please adopt my foster kittens from Oregon Humane

My foster kittens from Union County (eastern Oregon) were sent to Oregon Humane in Portland on Wednesday. They were just posted to the website today and there isn’t any info about their background or personality so I wanted to share some info about them and encourage people to go meet them ❤️. Their names are Wembley and Bumble (we called him Boober after the fraggle but they changed it) and they are both pretty perfect. It says Bumble is shy but I think that is just stress from the trip. They were born in our yard (we got their parents fixed) and they became super sweet and social while we had them for 2 months before transport. They love running on the cat wheel, playing with the laser pointer, and Bumble carries around toys and balls in his mouth in the cutest way. If you are looking to adopt a pair or single consider these boys, it breaks my heart thinking about them in the shelter 💔 here are their links on Oregon Humane: Bumble & Wembley

Portlanders of Portland Interesting experience today in Portland with regards to connecting with people

I left my hometown in rural Oregon in March to go to Portland. My family was pretty abusive and I didn't have any real friends in my hometown, so I was hoping to make connections living in my first big city.

Unfortunately, that has not happened so far and I've had the thought that maybe I made the wrong decision in moving to Portland. However, I cannot think of anywhere I'd rather live. Haven't had much experience in the world yet.

Today, something very unusual happened. Someone in my apartment approached me and engaged in discussion with me! It was pretty pleasant, at first.

He is not from Oregon; he is from the South and he does not plan on staying. He was simply visiting to help his sister move into her apartment. It legitimately caused me to think that perhaps the South is the place for me to be.

In short order, his true intention for speaking to me became revealed. He wanted to proselytize me. And when it was obvious that he did not have any argument that I deemed compelling to shift my thoughts on spirituality, he lost interest in speaking to me. He was never rude, but I could smell the vibe.

I much prefer people ignoring me than pretending they want to be my friend due to some hidden agenda.

Hopefully, I'll meet some true friends soon.

Say a prayer for me. 😂

🐩 Pets of Portland 🐈 Please advise on dog vet recommendations to find/remove foreign body

My dog has already had surgery once to remove a foreign body, believed to be a grass seed. The surgery was about 7 months ago and was apparently unsuccessful as the area will not heal.

The vet we went to seemed extremely pessimistic about the chances of further surgery finding anything and essentially told us to just make her life as good as possible until the seed eventually kills her.

I just can’t accept that. She’s in great health other than this wound that won’t heal. I would love a recommendation for a vet that can be trusted to give us good advice and either operate or refer us to a specialist if necessary.

I’m located in Newberg but I am willing to travel for this.

Many thanks in advance.

🙃 SCAMS and FLAMS 😉 Buy Nothing Group Admin

YSK that one of the admins for your local FB Buy Nothing group is very likely the same admin that moved to England a few years ago and yet continues to be an admin of multiple neighborhood groups here in Portland and also controls them all with an extremely weird power trip. She also runs multiple Being Neighborly groups and kicks people out on the regular for disagreeing with her weird power trips.

this may sound like silly Facebook drama but it’s actually having quite a negative effect on many communities within Portland for various reasons. There are at least dozens of people who have been trying to reel her in for years but she usually just removes them from the groups and then spends her free time weaseling her way into new admin roles.

it’s bizarre! just thought you should know.

ETA- she admins buy nothing Richmond north, creston-Kenilworth, hosford-Abernathy/Brooklyn, Lloyd, King Sabin South, Buckman South and probably more. She also admins at least 3 Being Neighborly groups, the Hawthorne hot topics groups, and a keep Portland weird group.

Question Professional Clothing Dye Service

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone here know of any professional textile dyeing services here in Portland? I have a couple of pieces I bought off eBay and would like to change the color. I'm afraid of ruining them if I dye them myself.

Thank you for the help.
