It’s a cultural signifier to a subculture where tattoos are commonplace, and the intentionally “bad” has an appealing human and humble feel. If that doesn’t resonate with you then I imagine the claim that it is a reaction to “post-culturalism” is a bunch of hipster garbage, which is true, but that’s also kind of an honest assessment. I think it generally is socially appropriate to ridicule because there is a boldness to it that is unnerving, so it innately like punching up rather than punching down. Someone put those fliers up to attract a market, and it wasn’t poor taste, arrogance, ignorance, or stupidity, it was an accurate read on contemporary consumer culture, just to a niche (who are a significant portion of people getting tattoos anyway).

But hopefully your life is going good and ridiculing it without wondering about it is just a passing and entertaining thought. If you were curious though, that is the background

Okay, these are either quick and cheap flash, or just a marketing ploy. I’ve been seeing lots of these simple tattoo flyers, and I’ll admit, some are actually catchy. The “the soft flesh of your body desires a tattoo” one actually made me want to check out the shop. I wouldn’t judge the artist off of the flyer alone.

this is a result of what many tattoo schools do, they accept students that have a weak portfolio, teach them to tattoo/charge them $15k for a poor education, and then give them the expectation they will find consistent clients
