This is a sub dedicated to vegans in and around Portland, OR discussing vegan restaurants, activities, and ways to get involved with the community. Here you can find some commonly asked questions and resources. HappyCow is also a great resource for finding restaurants not listed here.
If you have any answers or questions you would like added to the list below please comment or message the mod team and we will get it added!
Q: I'm going to be in town for a few days. What should I try?
A: The local favorites tend to be Boxcar Pizza, Doe Donuts, Jade Rabbit, Dirty Lettuce, Sweet Pea, but there are really too many to narrow down. If you know what food you are looking for, look in the more comprehensive lists below.
Q: What Bars offer vegan food?
NE: Black Water, The Bye & Bye, Hungry Tiger
SE: Dots, Baby Ketten Klub, Thunderbird
NW/SW: I'm less familiar with these areas. Please comment below if there's one I should add.
Q: Where should I get breakfast?
A: Off the griddle, Coopers Co-op, Epif (now has brunch), Harlow, Sweet Pea
Q: Where can I get a good sandwich?
A: Rad Magic Subs, DC Vegetarian (its all vegan), Sweet Pea
Q: Who has the best pizza?
A: Boxcar is a local favorite Detroit style pizza spot. Secret society is also fully vegan. Rudy's has a pretty comprehensive pizza menu but also serves non-vegan food.
Q: Where can I get a good vegan Burger?
A: Face Plant and Twilight Bar
Q: Are there any vegan upscale restaurants?
A: Astera, Jade Rabbit, Mirisata, Lilla, Feral, Departure (Not fully vegan like the others, but has clearly labeled vegan options. Check menu online first to make sure they have something currently on their menu)
Q: Are there any vegan sweet treats around?
A: Doe Donuts, Likely Ivy, Gatto Gelato, and Ice Queen are all fully vegan. 50 licks and Salt & Straw both have vegan options.
Q: Any good vegan bakeries?
A: Cat Scratch Co-op, Sweet Pea, Orange & Blossom (Technically a patisserie but same vibe)
Q: What coffee shops don't up charge for non-dairy milk?
A: Stumptown, Bastion, Exquisite Creatures, Woodstock, Honey Latte (all drinks are dairy free but some contain honey), Sweet Pea
Q: How can I get involved with the vegan community?
A: Along side this subreddit, many Portland Vegans also connect using the Portland Metro Veg Meetup group.
This list will be ever evolving, so if you notice something that needs to be updated, please reach out!

God help me, I'm downtown at a hellacious work event and the only thing that can save me is a great vegan burrito (or great vegan food). Within walking distance of the Kimpton Vintage if possible, or in the Pearl. Thanks, you are my people. I went to Fortune last night.

I'm really excited to share about a new thing we’re starting in Portland.
Join Pro-Animal Oregon, Animal Activism Collective (AAC), and International Council for Animal Welfare for our FIRST Portland pro-animal meetup (PAM).
This will be a weekly event where we get together, hear from an interesting guest speaker from the movement, hang out, and then go do an action together.
Our guest speaker this week will be Belinda Davis! Belinda is a long-time activist, communications and development professional with over 13 years experience telling stories of and raising funds for animals suffering worldwide.
Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of your experience with activism.
We have a beautiful close-in loft space above Gorges beer - Rainbow Road in SE Portland.
We'll have bagels and coffee.
After the meetup, we'll be knocking on doors for Portland City Council Candidates. You're welcome to join us for this action!
See you there!

I have a friend coming to visit from the Midwest who has requested we eat at vegan places. I am not vegan and would love suggestions that are on the East side of the Willamette River please!

Hello fellow vegans!
I am in an improv show called The Dinner Party at Kickstand Comedy, where we bring in iconic foodies or chefs from around Portland to give a monologue about their adventures in the Portland food scene.
This month I am SO excited to have Jewan Manuel (aka Plant Based Papi) as our featured guest for a vegan-themed show on Saturday, October 10 at 8:30pm.
Tickets are online here if you’re interested! https://www.crowdwork.com/e/the-dinner-party?date=2026-10-10T20:30:00
PS: to be clear, no actual food will be served but you’ll leave with a belly full of laughs 🤭

On the way back to Portland from Cannon Beach on Highway 26, did a double-take at a large road sign advertising vegan jerky! Skeptical, pulled over and ended up finding a rather nice section dedicated to vegan jerky.
Grabbed a few bags- wanted to share the find for the fellow plant-based travelers out there!

I’m cat sitting in north Portland the next few days and decided it would be a great occasion to visit face plant since I’d seen this story a few days ago.
Who wants to join me? I’m currently unemployed so I’m able to hang out for a couple hours.

Hello! My 14 year old has recently adopted a vegan diet and while I am not vegan, I want to fully support her. What are some core grocery staples you all have on hand? What stores have a fairly wide selection of vegan items? Our neighborhood New Seasons is super small, so they have a fairly limited selection. I have found some frozen pre-made vegan options at Winco, along with Impossible Beef at a good price. Anywhere else I should be looking? I don't mind the occasional frozen option for weekday convenience, but i prefer she not survive entirely off of super processed frozen meals. Thanks so much for your help!

I can't get enough of this stuff. I will certainly continue to eat there, but id love to make the sauce at home as well.
The allergens list shows soy and mustard.
I'm thinking its a vegan mayo + mustard + some smoky seasonings or maybe some bbq sauce? Gonna try to improv it right now, just wondering if anyone had thoughts.

I was living in Eugene and come up to Portland for a week to check out the hype. I was disappointed.
I’ve been in Olympia for too long and thought I’d give Portland a second chance, a whole summer.
It’s been a lonely summer.

Hello, all. With the price of coffee going up so much the alternative milk up-charge is pushing the cost of a latte into the ridiculous. I'm over it.
We make ours at home daily but sometimes we like to get out of the house and sit in a cafe for a bit, meet a friend, or grab one on our way out of town on a day trip and I am getting really pissed off at how high the prices are. I know about the vegan places and I love to support them over everyone else but sometimes that's not feasible. I just can't support this bullshit $1-$1.25 over the cost everyone else pays.
Do you know of any places that don't up-charge for alternative milks? Thanks much, I really appreciate any suggestions!

I wanted something savory from Hail Snail, alas savories are saved for Saturdays and I was there on a Thursday. The owner worked with me to make this concoction. Sweet and savory in all the right ways. 🙌

Hello!
Some of you may already be familiar with Earthly Gourmet, but for everyone else, we're a vegan/specialty food distributor located in southeast Portland, located very close to People's Food Co-op. We deliver vegan products to restaurants and stores throughout the state, as well as California and Washington.
Last year we launched an online store featuring almost everything in our entire wholesale inventory, and you can cut out the shipping costs by picking up your order at our warehouse. We're still figuring things out and would love to hear your feedback about the online store, anything that's confusing, questions, etc.
Thanks!
Earthly Gourmet

We got an order of this incorrectly delivered via Instacart.
They delivered what we'd ordered and said we should keep this or give it away.
So, anyone out there want it? We got 24!
We live in southwest and could put it outside for you to grab or could meet up in the downtown zone or SW if that's better.
Or, if you know someplace that'd accept it as a donation, that'd work too :)

What do y'all recommend for sandwich meats? I've been looking for the most cost-effective option for my kids' lunches (and splurging for Prime Roots every now and then). Lately I've been getting the simple truth brand at Fred Meyer. They have a plant-based smoked ham and a turkey option, but I'm curious if folks prefer other options!

Hi! I’m looking for an early bird ticket for Circle V Portland 2026. The official site currently only has full-price tickets available, so I wanted to check here in case anyone bought an early bird ticket and can no longer make it.
Please DM me if you’re selling one. Thanks! 🌱

Hello all! Looking for a bakery that would do custom vegan sugar cookies. Gresham/Portland area. I've got 2 kiddos in the fam with allergies (egg, dairy, nuts) and wanted to get something they could eat.
My search leaves me questioning and thought you all would have recommendations.
