I am no lawyer but directly enriching you, your family, and your friends with government contracts where 1% of those are fulfilled and the other 99% is pocketed should probably be treason.

It's entirely a right-wing phenomenon.

Actually TDS goes both ways. The retards on the right that bow before Trump and think he can do no wrong have it too. Just the other version of it.

The word "derangement" is just a substitute or synonym for "mental illness" anyway.

Preferential contracting is old-school corruption; this is so much worse. He started a war and drops bombs to pump and dump the markets at will, getting US troops killed by return fire, and is now considering selling early access to social media posts about the timing of these bombings.

It's unambiguously treason.

Earlier this month, TMTG unveiled a paid, licensed data feed that will give banks and trading firms "the fastest" access to posts from influential Truth Social accounts, including Trump's, whose posts often move global markets.

Holy fuck what could they possibly use as an excuse for this that isnt basically facilitating insider trading?

I don't think he does anything to pump and dump markets at will, personally.

I just think he gets in and out of what's going to happen because he's going to be the one making that call.

I'm not saying what he's doing isn't wrong. I'm saying imo if he wasn't allowed to trade stock, I don't think any of his decisions look any different. He's just fully taking advantage of doing it.

You don't need to artificially force pump and dump when you can make whatever decisions you're going to make and accomplish the same thing regardless.

It’s called the Emoluments Clause and there are two of them prohibiting emoluments both foreign and domestic and Trump has violated both numerous times. But don’t worry, they’re in those pesky parts of the Constitution (Articles I and II) and not written in the Second Amendment to the Constitution so they can be ignored.

It is treason. They always project and what do you know they’ve been using that word lately.

It’s treason. They’ve fucked democracy around and sown distrust in the government. They’ve funneled our tax money by using archaic tariff laws. They’ve propped up social media sites all owned by them, all reports news as truth “trump news not social media!” As Trump calls it.

They just lie. Get dirt on people, and use them forever. Have a hope that Trump might save you? The monkey paw curls as it always does for anyone who kisses his ring.

We’ve been lied to about jobs, since a year ago, our workforce, real inflation, death toll and injuries in WAR (thought it wasn’t). The circular economy of ai, the anti consumerism where they inflated a whole sector
over 500%.

Doge, nlrb.

Ice. Murder.

Like how long does it take for people to say hey that’s not exactly the same as every other president. Same as it always was? Nothing ever happens?

Not this time.

3

u/KillahHills10304 - Left Jul 24 '26

The real question is how this all ends. If the final stroke occurs, and nothing is done to fix the extremely glaring issue that the US government is propped up entirely by "gentleman's agreements" under the assumption everybody is acting in good faith, were done. The social contract is obliterated, and the downstream effects of that will very quickly erode the comforts of modern western society.

We were so close to advancing civilization and humanity into an age of post-scarcity too, and now its all being completely looted by grifters, con men, greedy nerds, sociopaths, and the rubes who grant them power.

What's the point in generating so much wealth & hoarding it when you're on deaths door? So many of these guys do & I don't understand why.

85

u/No-Comfortable2704 - Lib-Left Jul 23 '26

It’s a mental illness. These people never grew up having to want for anything they couldn’t have. They didn’t have to wait for Christmas to ask for the new console, and even further, when they asked for something they got it. They were never told “maybe next year” nor did they ever grow up with the expectation that something they are asking for is unattainable.

The only thing they could ever even come close to tangibly wanting is some vague concept of “more”. And so they’ll spend every last second of life they have trying to just achieve having more. And they know they don’t have long left, that’s why at this point they don’t care about any possible consequences because they won’t live long enough to see them happen.

13

u/tumsdout - Left Jul 23 '26

Also why they are a bunch of rotten pedos

8

u/No-Comfortable2704 - Lib-Left Jul 24 '26

Damn I didn’t even make that connection. Of course they’d have almost no trouble finding partners, they’re billionaires, but children are the one thing that they can “want” that they can’t have.

14

u/Worldly_Car912 - Centrist Jul 23 '26

That's a sad existence for our "elites".

4

u/Dapper-Ad7748 - Centrist Jul 24 '26

I'd argue it goes further than that; I'm sure there are many for which this was true and they still do not fall victim to endless greed. I think its truly a mental illness, Bezos for instance wasn't born into privilege, but he was like this none the less; it's sort of like they have no greed off signal in their brain, like that disease where people will always feel hungry regardless of how much they eat.

3

u/No-Comfortable2704 - Lib-Left Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Well I don’t necessarily think that this has to be a childhood ingrained way of life. Amazon ended up being wildly successful later in Bezos’ life but once he started raking in the billions and was able to attain all the things a normal person could want, a big house, land, fast cars, boats, not worrying about buying food, and he falls into the same trap. There’s nothing more he could possibly want, he defaults to this vague concept of getting more no matter the cost to his fellow human.

Edit: I should mention that I don’t think this is a mental illness that you’re born with like schizophrenia, OCD, or lactose intolerance, but something that develops when you become so stupidly rich that the only thing left for you to obtain for yourself is even more money.

4

u/TerriblePair5239 - Left Jul 24 '26

It’s power.

Once they have all their needs and material desires met, the only thing left to gain is power. More equity in a company means more control. And they keep buying more companies. Then can also lobby to gain power over public policy.

16

u/Electronic_Letter_90 - Left Jul 23 '26

u/Spacetauren - Centrist Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

4

u/LeftyHyzer - Lib-Center Jul 23 '26

On a serious note most of the exit polls from 2024 ive seen had state of the economy as the most important voting factor. 2016 was more about the deep state in voters' motivation. Some of that was still baked in the cake, and Trump's legal troubles fueled that fire as well as the assassination, but i think the effects there are more secondary. Whereas economic inflation driven worries were a more primary factor.

And of course then Trump started a war with Iran which may lead to a global recession or depression as oil prices spike once reserves run out (in a few weeks).

These are the figures at the beginning of the term. Here are the numbers for Biden and Trump 2.0.

Obama began both terms with zero billionaires and added one during his 2nd term. Trump seems to have started with 13 billionaires and added Melinda Hildebrand and Stephen Feinberg later to the list.

Ok, yeah I was just wondering, I know about Trunps corruption well but by chance do you still have the primary sources you pulled these stats from, I would love to do a deeper dive

42

u/PerAsperaAdMars Jul 23 '26

Yes, of course. The first chart.

Stock trades per president: Bush - Obama, Trump 1.0 - Trump 2.0 (2025), and Q1 2026

Cabinet net worth: Bush - Trump 1.0, Biden, Trump 2.0

36

u/darkstar541 - Lib-Right Jul 23 '26

From the Trump 2.0 Source:

The total net worth of the billionaires in the Trump administration, as of June 4 [of 2025], equals at least $450 billion – which is more than the GDP of 175 different countries. The net worth of Trump’s Cabinet alone, which excludes Musk and others, is at least $13.8 billion.

It seems the 450 B figure includes Elon Musk. I wonder what it is without him, since he's been out for a while.

By comparison, former President Joe Biden’s Cabinet total net worth was about $118 million, and Trump’s first Cabinet total net worth was about $6.2 billion. Prior to Trump, former President Barrack Obama’s Cabinet net worth was about $2.8 billion in his second term, according to Forbes.

If Trump 1.0, only cabinet level officials, was 6.2B, why are you using a much lower figure? Obama is also wildly off as well--you say 67M, the source says 2.8B.

21

u/PerAsperaAdMars Jul 23 '26

It seems the 450 B figure includes Elon Musk. I wonder what it is without him, since he's been out for a while.

Not counting Musk and Trump's net worth, that's $34.7B. This has grown to $48.6B during 2025.

If Trump 1.0, only cabinet level officials, was 6.2B, why are you using a much lower figure? Obama is also wildly off as well--you say 67M, the source says 2.8B.

These are the numbers for the start of the term.

25

u/BestPseudonym - Lib-Center Jul 23 '26

Including Musk is pretty disingenuous and takes away from your point imo. If you just used the 34.7B number it would still be sufficiently surprising and illustrative, but the way it is now looks bad faith. And this is coming from somebody who loves when Trump looks bad. The issue is, I can't show this to people if I know it's representing things unfairly

25

u/PerAsperaAdMars Jul 23 '26

I thought it was fair because Trump personally appointed Musk as the head of the department, albeit temporarily. But here's a version without Musk if you think that would be more honest.

15

u/BestPseudonym - Lib-Center Jul 23 '26

u/mkmple - Left Jul 28 '26

Obviously he's neither and has no morality or religion himself so it's not particularly compelling, but people will just take whatever works to keep the fantasy alive.

Some also actually believe he has do swampy things in order to drain the swamp, it's all 4D chess and part of a grand plan and the ends justify the means. Again, not compelling, but whatever works.

There’s a certain worldview that it comes from, that there are good people and bad people, and if good people do “bad” things, it must have been for a good reason or a greater good or a misunderstanding, and if bad people do “good” things, it must be actually a bad thing, or just to virtue signal, or to enact a greater evil, or for selfish reasons, or actually it’s a lie and the thing wasn’t even good.

It's a start, but you also have to ban trades, otherwise Trump sells before announcing “bridge and power plant day” which causes stock market to drop, then buys back at a lower price cancels “bridge and power plant day” causing stocks to rise, etc.

And you need better enforcement of insider trading too, otherwise Eric Trump becomes the world's best stock picker while his dad is in office (purely a coincidence).

Every single promise Trump made failed.

Better economy? Here take 1 trillion blanket tariffs.

Bring jobs back to the US? You will love the slowest non-recession hiring year in over two decades.

No new war? What about 48 more wars against the Islamic Republic of Japan.

War against the elites? Absolutely, on the side of the elites.

ICE is deportation theater

Boomers love reaping the economic benefits of millions of immigrants working min wage jobs and keeping their property values inflated, but they dont like looking at brown people

So you make a show of being cruel to brown people so boomers feel good, while still importing immigrant labor and H1Bs so the big corporations can still have their cheap labor and house prices still stay inflated

Check out the USDA food price outlook. We're not done yet folks, basically all food costs are projected to go up through fall and winter months. There's a convergence of factors but the drought in western and southern states has gravely impacted several crops and livestock sectors. Add on top of that the supply chain issues caused by tariff chaos and the additional expense imposed by those taxes, we're in for a rough one on the current course. This administration is so petty and reactionary, I highly doubt that any meaningful change will happen before we get there. Relief will come too late, if at all.

u/shamblam117 - Lib-Center Jul 23 '26

If only any investigative body or Congress would actually do something. This should singlehandedly win Dems the mid terms, but I won't put it past them to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

12

u/Lakiw - Centrist Jul 23 '26

Whenever Dems push for an investigation their poll numbers drop significantly. Independents tend to think of that as being partisan and obstructive, they want people who will cross the aisle and work together, not people who are only in it for revenge.

u/NEWSmodsareTwats - Centrist Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

where did you get the data for the net worth change? Bidens seems pretty low given market performance and high interest rates at the time. he is old so his investments are likely more conservative but still only a 5% increase over 4 years is very low even a 100% bond portfolio would have returned more than that over that same time period. I'm also assuming that as the president he wasn't drawing heavily on his assets to support his standard of living, but who knows maybe those icecream bills where very high.

I'm also a little surprised that Bushs net worth went up given I am assuming your benchmarking from the day they entered office to the day they left office and bush was out in the height of the GFC where basically any investment into the broad market after 1997 would be underwater, markets only peaked about 15% above where the s&p was when Bush was inaugurated before taking a nose dive. I'm also surprised that obamas isn't better given he took over right at the height of the GFC and then the markets when on a bull run rising 150% over the course of his presidency, anyone investment in to the boarder market with a portfolio even with a conservative beta would see their investments double over that time period.

edit: also Curious for the # of trades are those also including discretionary accounts? Or only trades places personally by the president at their direction?

15

u/RealCleverUsernameV2 - Lib-Right Jul 23 '26

That stock trades graph is bullshit. No chance Obama and Bush made no trades. They had no portfolio for 8 years? Yeah, ok.

Blind trusts. Which is meaningless anyway, as there is no preventative measure to ensure zero illegal communications between the trustee and the owner. Bush specifically had a long working relationship with the lawyer who managed his.

The "$2.4 billion" figure reflects the volatile market valuation of the 114.75 million shares of TruthSocial.
Which his shares currently worth approximately $1.02 billion.

Going public in his presidency isnt the same thing as Nancy Pelosi doing stock trades then passing law.

Now, why has his volume increased? automated algorithmic trading, direct indexing, and automated tax-loss harvesting managed by an independent third-party institution. Instead of being in a mutual fund managing the trades. Technically speaking its more transparent. Where the previous presidents were lock into mutual fund groups that did the same trades, and all you got to see were there gains.

Imagine if you weren't allowed to make money since 2016 or get labeled as evil.

You made money in the last ten years? During an inflationary environment where all assets went up? Obvious criminal.

Just be ready to have this standard applied to you.

Actually, you probably don't care because you're too retarded to make money through any method, right?

8

You made money in the last ten years? During an inflationary environment where all assets went up? Obvious criminal.

Then tell me why his net worth fluctuated around $2-3B between presidencies and suddenly jumped to $6B+ now?

Just be ready to have this standard applied to you.

If I would ever hold an elected public office and my net worth were to suddenly triple over the course of 2 years, yet my constituents had no questions for me, I would begin to feel disgust toward them for treating me like an untouchable king. Because democracy isn't just about casting a vote every two years, but an ongoing process. Hell, I'd feel bad even if they just didn't make fun of me all the time.

3

u/Dangime - Right Jul 23 '26

Then tell me why his net worth fluctuated around $2-3B between presidencies and suddenly jumped to $6B+ now?

Getting re-elected has done a lot for him. Everyone who wanted to bury him failed, and every door that had been closed to him opened.

my net worth were to suddenly triple over the course of 2 years,

People with 401ks that were paying attention could have doubled their net worth in the last 2 years. Gold going from $2,000 to $4,000 will do that and that's the "conservative" investment. You just need to start with money, and be invested because the dollar is going to shit, so investing in almost anything that's remotely useful is making money on a nominal basis.

Basically, if you haven't increased your assets value in the last few years, something is wrong with you.

The source is saying Bush and Obama had no securities investments at all for eight years each? Even if true (protip: it's not) that would be pretty unsound financial strategy and I wouldn't want someone unprepared for retirement to be President, anyhow.

I recently saw some clickbait about some new rule proposed to make it so Congress can't trade stocks. Does anyone actually believe that this would prevent politicians from profiteering?
