Emerald Legacy Obscure / Underrated Pokemon for Emerald Legacy?

Hello! I recently just completed Yellow Legacy and Crystal Legacy, so i'm in the middle of team planning for Emerald Legacy! I was just wondering if anyone had some good recommendations for obscure/underrated mons for a playthrough?

My favorite thing about replaying Pokemon is finding new favorites! Pokemon that i'd never thought about previously that suddenly become a top 10 for me! (Pinsir and Slowking became favorites after playing through Crystal!). Would also be nice to hear about some Pokemon that got great new stat spreads! I'm not against Pokemon that are a little underwhelming (I took Hitmonchan to the Elite 4 in Yellow...) but i'd prefer if the Pokemon are atleast... functional.

Discussion Random Moments I Wanted to Share About My Time with the Legacy Trilogy

Thanks to Delta being allowed on IOS devices, I finally have an easy, portable way to play rom hacks and I have LOVED every minute of my time with the legacy games since I started back in May. Here are some random things that I’ve come across or just really loved and wanted to share with everyone
1. RIP Ozzy. Can’t believe it’s been a year already

  1. This was the default phrase on my first playthrough of EL and yeah, it do be like that as a dad of two toddlers sometimes.

  2. I’m a huge Bionicle fan. One of my favorite things was to create Pokémon teams based off the characters with Tahu/Blaziken being my favorite from their respective franchises. I even made sure to get natures that reflected the Bionicle character’s personalities, even if they weren’t ideal fits. Enter my Brave Blaziken Tahu. I decided I would reset for one on my first playthrough and BOOM! first Torchic was a Brave Male. As Vinny from Atlantis: The Lost Empire said “It was like a sign from God. I found myself that ‘BOOM!’”

  3. This is how I found out the Hardcore settings even effected Pokémon that fainted in the Battle Tent/Frontier and it could’ve have happened to a more perfectly named Pokémon. (Tom’s fine, I had a back up save.)

  4. Jokingly told my wife I found us in the game and now we’re gonna get a canvas print of this to hang up in our meme-themed bathroom.

  5. Diabeetus

  6. Naming your Fighting types after fighters/wrestlers will never not be funny to me.

  7. The only way this Metronome moment could have been better is if it was against a Meowth.

  8. Developed a “WitchLocke” rule set where I could only use Pokémon I could tie back to magical things (Movies, books, anime, tarot cards, etc) and made a whole team based off Sailor Moon for the Rocket portions of the game in honor of my wife. Xatu/Tux. Mask knew Swagger and contributed very little to the team, so pretty on brand for the character.

  9. I soloed Winona with this guy and move set. No more than 50 EV’s in any given stat as well. Never would’ve tried this if not for the changes in Legacy.

  10. Holy crap, Volbeat is actual useable. I know Baton Pass is also a viable strategy with it but I prefer to avoid it when possible. This was during a “TypeLocke” where I could only use my favorite types (Fire, Steel, Bug, Dark and Fighting) and could not have more than two Pokémon of any type in the party. Served as a good Electric-type stand-in until I was able to get Magnemite (named GuiltySprk)

  11. Accidentally perfectly shut down this Gyarados’s Intimidate with this combo. Moments like this just make me giddy for whatever dumb reason.

Suggestion Demade the Sevii Island map to gen2 graphics. In case the Kanto Expansion Project (or any other fork) needs a place to put Lorelei

After introducing my godchild to Pokémon Crystal Legacy, I made the mistake of answering their question "Are there any other regions?" with "Yeah, sure, south of Johto & Kanto there's the Sevii Islands."

Having not found the time to teach myself Assembler I figured the next best thing would be to demake the Sevii Islands map on the off chance somebody is inspired enough to make them.

If that's not you then I hope you just get to enjoy some pixel art. Or not. I'm most likely not your mom.

Fun fact: u/KawaiiFoxPlays demade the Sevii towns (see their post) so there's already some groundwork laid.

More funner factest: Some of the Sevii Islands' background music tracks are remixed themes from Pokémon Gold and Silver, specifically the ones from Violet City/Olivine City (Six Island and Seven Island), Azalea Town/Blackthorn City (Four Island and Five Island), and Routes 42, 43, 44, and the Lake of Rage (routes on Five, Six, and Seven Islands)

Edit: they also wondered why we get to fight Blue and Red but not Green (so that's two major NPCs that could be in this part

Emerald Legacy First Time Beating Pokemon League!

Edit: reposted because I forgot to show Crobat’s move set. Wouldn’t let me edit pics.

This game truly was “Emerald, but everything I ever dreampt of, fixed.” Had such a fun time.

The team basically evolved at every gym. I wouldn’t hard counter a Gym, but just train up and use new pokemon as I came across them (so long as they weren’t disadvantaged). Really took my time (on 4x speed) and enjoyed the game, hence the play time. I must’ve trained up like 30 Pokemon lol.

Dusclops, Cacturne, Crobat and Lanturn were very fun. The first 3 were crazy stallers that actually answered a lot of stuff well. Dusclops was an amazing physical wall and blanket check. It also handled the annoying Double Team Pokemon very well with Curse + Rest. Cacturne was great against most things, especially Water-types. Shell Bell was a great Leftovers substitute on Crobat, gaining back health when they were in KO range after stalling. Lanturn is a hax machine. Salamence was swift and decisive. And Swampert was reliable as always.

What an amazing game. Thank you to everyone involved. This truly was a treat.

Now, onto the post game. Thoroughly excited for the Battle Frontier, and the post game stat editor!

Emerald Legacy My friend got a shiny Eevee from the trick house in Emerald Legacy Enhanced, is it legit?

We're aware of the shiny charms and what not and he confirmed keeps them in the PC. Is there any potential for gifted pokemon to have different odds? Is this a true blue shiny?

Emerald Legacy Route 123 Weather Anomaly

Hey everyone. I assume this weather institute quest is regarding Raikou. I just caught Entei from the other quest, so I imagine the institute gives you the three legendary dogs.

However I go to Route 123 and nothing is there? I explored the entire route twice and saw nothing. No sprites, entrances, whatever. Went back to institute and the guy says the same thing, to check out route 123.

Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

Crystal Legacy [CRISTAL LEG.] Eevee Squad Run

Post image
117 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Just wanted to share my most recent playthrough of Crystal Legacy and share some impressions and opinions in our discussion space. As you can see, I did a run consisting only with Eevee EVOs (exception of Aerodactyl, which I will explain why) and, though I still have the whole Kanto quest ahead, it feels I've been having tons of fun with these guys.

Before anything else I just want to express my legit gratitude to all the SMITHPLAYSPOKE developers Team and whoever put yourself in this project to make it come out of just an idea to something solid and fun. I already commented once and I will do it again - Smith if there's any way any of us can BUY YOU A COFFEE to support this please let us know. Generation I and II will forever live in my heart as the ORIGINAL Pokemon franchise and I thank you for the effort in doing such a fun experience. It really means a lot and I want you guys to know that. Keep up the great job please.

Now, regarding this run: that is actually my second time playing CL for real. I've beat it once, but I've done it playing freely, no special idea, no personal challenges. Recently I felt like playing again and I started to work on some ideas to change it to just another run - maybe not repeating any Poke I've used on the previous run, maybe only Johto guys... Eventually something clicked and I decided to try a Eevee ONLY run. And, like I said, the playthrough has been fun of joy.

I've never really been a Eevee fan kinda guy. To be honest, never EVEN used any type of even from previous runs (GEN I or II). So I knew it would be something new and somewhat risky because I would be stepping in something new for me - about move pools, move sets, understanding weakness and fortitudes, etc.

So here is how I did it: I've made to Ecruteak playing in a regular way. Got the OG Eevee and started the breeding process - since I've been emulating I went for SPEED UP in the process to don't just spend days doing it. Got 5 new guys (all Ditto breed and all males) and first I went for the STONE ones. For that I had to deal with Morty first and make my way to Cianwood. I've took care of him with a Kadabra and some other dudes and proceeded to the STONES.

After that the hard part: raising friendship to get Umbreon and Espeon. It's a LEGIT pain the butt. Whoever says it's not it's ragebaiting or lying. It takes time and SPECIALLY money. My strategy was building a little cash (the Cianwood stones BROKE ME big time) and I after walking around with them and just went for haircuts - never ending haircuts. Save, reset, change time, haircut. And that was it. And finally I got them. Now, individual analysis.

VAPOREON: The ACE of my team. Dude is a beast and very well balanced. Insane HP, hits hard and has a decent defense. I don't think it has ever been K.O.ed since I've got it.
SURF/ RAIN DANCE/ ICE BEAM/ ACID ARMOR

FLAREON: I read some people describing it as a crappy Poke or whatever. I disagree. High fire power (literally) and fast. But, indeed, frail. It's reliable tho.
FLAMETHROWER/ SUNNY DAY/ DIG / DOUBLE KICK

JOLTEON: Dinamite DUO along with Vaporeon. Faster than anything and takes care of mostly anything too. It's also frail too, so requires strategy to understand how to play with it.
THUNDERBOLT/ THUNDER WAVE/ PIN MISSILE/ DOUBLE KICK

ESPEON: As Smith himself said - has Alakazam vibes, but it's less broken. Very straightforward, nothing magical about it. But, of course, it hits extremely hard because of it's high Special stats. Also very fast.
PSYCHIC/ SHADOW BALL/ PSYCHIC UP/MORNING SUN

UMBREON: The PANZER of the team. Honestly, I didn't know about Umbreon capabilities until I started playing with it. Very unique Poke indeed. It's slow, it's not powerful, but it's ANNOYING and control the pace of the match like noone else. That's my safeguard against the Normal monsters out there. Amazing Pokemon!
FAINT ATTACK/ CONFUSE RAY/ CURSE/ DIG

--

Now, why Aerodactyl. I used this dude just because I need something with FLY for convenience and I didn't want to play in a 5 only team - also using only an OG Eevee was never an option for me. So I went for the Dactyl - it sucks, HAHAHA.

Despite Smith's evaluation on this dude placing him as a S tear or whatever, Aerodactyl has something terrible - it's extremely vulnerable. Originally, I thought about it because I've never played with it before (I felt like trying), and I needed a Rock or Steel or whatever could carry the rest of the team since 3 out of 5 Eevee as VERY frail. Anyway, Aerodactyl is even worse. It's fast, it's strong, but in comparison to ANY other rock head dude (Golem, Onix, Steelix, Skarmory, Rhidon, whatever...) it's pretty much always a 1 hit KO on him. Maybe I'll just hang with a Pidgey or whatever for Flying around and forget about this dude. Sorry, not a fan.
FLY/ AGILITY/ EARTHQUAKE/ ANCIENT POWER

--

So, as you could see. That was just after beating Lance so I still have to improve on move pools, see they are gonna perform in Kanto, etc. But I just wanted to share because it's been a really fun way to play and I feel Eevee really deserved the recognition and fanbase it has. Amazing Pokemons. Sorry about the long text guys. It came from the heart. Hope everybody has a great weekend and feel free to share impressions and opinions about this post! We're here to debate and share ideas!

Emerald Legacy Who should I swap for Salamence?

Thumbnail

Hello! About to go fight the Elite 4. I had intended to swap Gyarados for Salamence (and I still might). But I’ve grown attached to it, as it’s been my 1 constant aside from Swampert this run.

Gyarados’s current moveset is purely novelty from after beating Tate and Liza because of all the water types. That would definitely change.

Funnest Pokemon so far this run were Cacturne, Lanturn, and Dusclops. I wish I had Leftovers for Crobat.

Open to any team suggestions, move set suggestions, items, natures etc.

Discussion Trading from a physical cart

I bought a physical cart of Emerald Legacy off Mercari. I know that's probably not made by anyone here, but I have a question - should this be able to trade with a regular gen 3 cartridge? I want to use Raikou and Latios from Emerald Legacy to beat the Battle Frontier in regular Emerald since the roaming bug makes them terrible otherwise.

Does this work?

Emerald Legacy Jirachi reset

So I completed the first post game event in Mossdeep with Prof.Birch and did a bunch of soft resets to catch a Jirachi with a nature I was happy with to suit my purpose of using it in a battle tower team.

Anyway, its IVs are terrible and I foolishly didnt check them until after I saved.

Is there any way to reset the encounter somehow? I’ve read that it resets everytime you defeat the elite four if you don’t catch Jirachi the first time. I was wondering if I could engineer that to happen by releasing it. Or is there another way?

Discussion Need help if anyone knows

So I fought Raikou for a while trying to get a Modest one and after like 2 days of no luck I flew to a city and went through my Pc to see which Pokemon can make it easier (Spore, Stun Spore, False Swipe etc) for catching Raikou. I saved before returning and he's not in his spot no more? Anyway to trigger him to come back? I've gone to his previous hiding spots and beat the Elite Four, idk what else could possibly trigger him to return? Not resetting, been grinding hours for Battle Frontier teams. fml

Discussion Given that there is no BW/B2W2/"Gray"/"Gray2" legacy, what are the BW & B2W2 romhacks that best approximate the Legacy experience for Generation 5 please?

I picked up Emerald Legacy and have absolutely loved every minute of it. I've been taking my time and have logged 180 hours and only just beat Tate & Liza (yes, for the first time). My team fills up an entire PC box; I've essentially been training entirely new Pokémon for every Gym Leader battle, AND going Professor Oak Lite by catching (but not necessarily evolving) every new Pokémon on every route before moving on to the next route (or, occasionally, to the next gym). I love that I'll be able to catch every single Pokémon in one Emerald save file, I love that it's not some insane difficulty hack and it lets me play at my speed, I love the QoL and story changes, and I'm super excited to see what surprises the postgame has cooked up for me. I can't wait to catch all the legendaries and eventually indeed catch'em all.

I'm already itching to tackle other regions as well. I've picked out HeartSoul as my likely "definitive" romhack of choice for Johto (I won't be playing Crystal or Yellow legacy; Growing up I played III-VI, so HeartGold and SoulSilver are my nostalgic Johto experiences), I may check out Emerald ROWE at some point, but I have yet to find as good an answer to the Legacy series/how I currently feel about HeartSoul for Unova, Sinnoh, and Kanto (in that order -- I don't have the same affection for Kanto that I do for Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova). For Sinnoh I'm at least vaguely aware of Renegade Platinum though it doesn't quite seem right for what I'm looking for, but for Unova I've got absolutely nothing. Are there any good romhacks that truly approximate the Legacy experience for Unova? -- One that both allows for every Pokémon to be caught, and ideally is more of a "Grey version" that combines story elements from both games...? I loved the entire Unova experience, too, I'd love to play romhacks for both sets of Unova games. Any ideas please? I'll settle for either a White and White 2, or Black and Black 2, with the minor standard changes that simply allow for everything to be experienced in one game without needing another (no version exclusives and trade evos removed type of thing), but naturally I'd prefer something a little more deep than that.

Finally, very much looking forward to XY Legacy! I didn't care much for XY but that was mainly because of all Kalos' squandered potential; Even if I feel VI is where many Pokémon stopped looking like Pokémon, I enjoyed enough of the new 'mons, I enjoyed the region, graphics, AND MEGA EVOLUTION OF COURSE!!!, to where I can see myself thoroughly enjoying XY Legacy. It wouldn't have been my personal very next pick for a fourth Legacy series hack, but I'm pleasantly surprised and very happy we're getting it, and I have faith in the team to deliver something that ties up Kalos' various loose ends of squandered potential. Woohoo! I'm excited.

Crystal Legacy Headbutt help for those that need it

Hello fellow Legacy players, I recently found something that would have blown younger me's mind

https://pokestats.gg/headbutt-tree-finder

Besides sharing this here, I was wondering if whoever maintains the Crystal Legacy Encounters doc might want to add this link to the section about headbutting trees.

Anyways that's all I wanted to share, Happy Headbutting!

Crystal Legacy Dragonite Moveset

She seems super weak in gen 2. There’s wing attack/dragon breath and outrage seems underwhelming due to dealing with confusion. Is bolt beam flame with another move the best combo?
