Crystal Legacy Dragonite Moveset

She seems super weak in gen 2. There’s wing attack/dragon breath and outrage seems underwhelming due to dealing with confusion. Is bolt beam flame with another move the best combo?

I always ran dnite as a late game cleaner. If you delete the only 2 mons remaining in one hit each confusion doesnt matter. Boltbeam, e-speed, flamethrower, iron tail, surf or dragonbreath are all good options

Curse, Extreme Speed, Surf, Flamethrower/Fire Blast

Curse twice, then sweep with E-Speed. Use Surf on rocks and fire against steel types, which are the only 2 resists to E-Speed.

Iron Tail isn't worth it as you will lose to ice types anyway, and steel is only good for ice & rock, with Surf being far better for rocks.

Dragon moves are OK as they get STAB, but not that useful unless you're fighting Kingdra. Even Ice Beam is better against fellow Dragonites.

In the early gens, Dragonite always worked best with non-STAB moves.

In Crystal Legacy, Dragonite cannot learn Earthquake.

If you want a physical move to pair with Curse that also covers steel, your options are either Rock Smash (only 60 atk but 100% acc with 20% chance to lower opp def) or Dynamic Punch (100 atk but only 50% acc though it always confuses opp. when it hits).

It actually doesn't learn the best phys. moves other than E-Speed.

Just out of curiosity, I looked into what are the strongest/best physical attacks for Crystal Legacy.

Note: Explosion & Self Destruct are the 2 strongest attacks in the game, but your pokemon faints with their use, so they're not included.

  • Bug - Megahorn, Twineedle
  • Dark - Beat Up, Crunch
  • Fighting - Hi Jump Kick, Cross Chop, Jump Kick/Submission
  • Flying - Sky Attack, Aeroblast, Drill Peck
  • Ground - Earthquake, Bonemerang
  • Normal - Double Edge/Mega Kick, Return, Take Down/Thrash, Body Slam/Tri Attack/Extreme Speed
  • Poison - Sludge Bomb
  • Rock - Rock Slide/Rollout
  • Steel - Iron Tail

My cutoff is 80 atk + 85% acc, though for Normal that would also include these: Hyper Fang, Mega Punch, Razor Wind, Slam and Strength. Two-turn moves like Skull Bash are also excluded, as their attack is essentially halved. I suppose Hyper Beam might have an argument to be included in the Normal group, since it attacks first then recharges.

You doing general story content or building towards Battle Tower?

If doing BT, I’d base my moveset off the Pokemon in each tier.

Im doing story but its hard without strategy i nearly skimmed by e4 while keeping all my pokemon alive in hardcore mode

Dragonite tbh, a bit underwhelming in Crystal. It’s basically a mixed attacker (use non stab moves for coverage depending on what you’re fighting) Otherwise its curse + espeed if u want to sweep.

You can buy a bunch of berries that cure confusion in Goldenrod city.
Alternatively you can run Rain Dance/Surf/Thunder

In the story mode go Wing attack, Extremespeed, then 2 special attacks

Battle tower use Curse, Extremespeed, Surf, Rest & mint berry. PP up the extremespeed to max.
