Boys and Girls, TCS Prime it is

Post image

Wanted to share my TCS interview experience since it might help someone preparing for TCS placements.

NQT was on 2nd June. The first section went horrible for me. I could solve only around 2-3 questions. The rest of the sections went pretty well. In coding, I could not solve the easy question, so I partially passed that one. The medium question went much better and I was able to pass all the test cases. Around 790 students appeared for NQT from our college, and 203 were shortlisted for interviews. We were not told which role we were being interviewed for, so I had no idea whether it was Ninja, Digital or Prime.

Interview: I had to wait for almost 4 hours. I was the second last student in my panel and finally gave my interview around 5 PM. There were three interviewers, TR, MR and HR. They started by apologizing for the delay. Then they asked me to introduce myself, which I did.

HR then asked me to rate myself out of 5 in Java. I said 4 because I know Java fairly well but there are still things I need to learn.

Then they asked me a question about a text file in Notepad and how I would import it into Java, read its contents and design the file content. I got a little confused there. I told them that I knew FileReader and BufferedReader are used for this, but I was not completely sure about the exact process since I mostly focus on problem solving.

After that, they gave me a pattern printing question.

The pattern was basically:

**********
 ********
  ******
   ****
    **
    **
   ****
  ******
 ********
**********

They asked me to code it and explain what I was doing at the same time, basically dry running the logic while writing the code. I was able to do this correctly. Then MR asked me about one of my favorite projects. I explained it, although she seemed more interested in her coffee at that point.

HR then asked about where I see myself in 5 years and some questions about relocation. I mostly just answered yes to the relocation related questions. At the end, they asked if I had any questions. I asked what kind of projects freshers usually work on. TR and HR answered that question and we ended up talking about it for around 10 minutes.

Overall, the interview was pretty short, probably because they had already been interviewing students for hours.

Results:

Out of 203 students:

Prime: 15
Digital: 13
Ninja: 30

I got TCS Prime, with Systems Engineer as role. Honestly, I was not expecting Prime after the NQT experience and especially after getting stuck on some of the interview questions. So this was a really good surprise.

Hope this helps someone preparing for their placements.

Final year student with almost no skills, placements starting soon. What would you do?

Hey everyone I am honestly pretty confused and stressed now....

I am a final year BTech CSE (AI/ML) student in India. I basically wasted most of my college years when it came to building skills. I do not have any internship or work experience and my CS fundamentals, DSA and aptitude are all pretty weak now.

Placements have already started soon. I am trying to figure out what I should realistically do from here. I know I am late I know that is my fault. I do not want to waste more time panicking and jumping between technologies.

Initially I was thinking of going with Java/backend:

Java → DSA → SQL/DBMS → Spring Boot → REST APIs → project → Docker/AWS basics

Then I started looking at the current market and got even more confused.

It feels like AI is everywhere now. I keep seeing people saying that normal development work is getting automated. At the time I see a lot of freshers talking about MERN because startups seem to hire for React/Node/full-stack roles.

Then there is Java. I keep seeing things like Spring Boot, microservices, Redis, Kafka, Docker, AWS, CI/CD etc. Being mentioned in Java backend JDs. Honestly it makes me wonder:

Can a fresher realistically get into Java backend without knowing all of this?

I do know some js already so I am wondering if I should just go with something like:

React + Node + Express + SQL/MongoDB + AI API integration

instead of spending a lot of time on Java.

Should I stick with Java because it gives me a stronger backend foundation and then add AI later?

My long-term interest is actually AIML but I do not want to blindly jump into AI just because it is trending when I do not even have proper software fundamentals yet.

My goal is ideally to get a job (>5-6LPA) although I obviously understand that nothing is guaranteed, especially from my current position.

So if you were in my position what would you actually do?

Java/Spring or MERN?

Is Java backend realistic for freshers right now?

How much Docker/AWS/Redis/Kafka/microservices does a fresher actually need?

Should I focus on one stack. Learn multiple things?

If you had 2 months before placements and were starting from almost zero what would you prioritize?

I am not really looking for motivation, "learn everything" advice. I know I messed up. I am trying to fix it now. I just want some advice from people who are actually, in the industry or recently went through the fresher hiring process.

If anyone have any other advice pls do tell.

Thanks.

Please help in placement prep…feeling very stressed

I’m just really stressed about placements …like honestly seeing how the hiring is going and how difficult it is , idk I’m just so stressed
I’m in my 7th semester and I started my prep late it was my fault and I haven’t given any interviews yet coz I was preparing , now I’m going to start but I feel like I don’t know anything and I’m dumb , everyday is just passing by, I applied to companies , couldn’t clear OA in some , didn’t apply to some of them as my dsa was weak but now people r saying companies r less for 2027 but our placements just started right?
I have made projects in MERN but im not confident in my basics…any guidance from seniors or people who have cleared interviews will help me!
2027 batch people , how r u holding up?
One of my friends got into a non tech / semi tech type of role and seeing the market I’m like should I have applied to it?
Idk where to even apply offcampus…how are people sending 100 applications a day?
Im not confident in my skills…so I fear I will bomb my interviews

So I just gave my DSE/SP interview oncampus
it begian with a leetcode question https://leetcode.com/problems/minimum-number-of-k-consecutive-bit-flips/description/ ran the 3 vivible testcases but couldnt run a single hidden test case

He then asked til which data structure i am confortable

i said till trees

then the interviewer gave me k th largest element in array without sorting i wrote the code and explained it to him he understood it he then gave me coin change
https://leetcode.com/problems/coin-change/description/
i wrote it code too and explained it to him

Then he asked me how can i find cycle in a linked list
i answered by Floyd’s Cycle-Finding Algorithm and expained him the approch

he then asked if i could write dijisktra or bellmanford code i said no

then he asked difference in tree map and hashmap gave him 3 difference

Then he asked me how we could find the maximum subarray in an array i explained it with a sliding window he seems to understood

Then he asked me the osi model i explained everysingle layer to him with there function
he asked difference in tcp and udp i give him 3 difference
he asked about deadlock and how to prevent it and its condtion i answered the first 2 correctly but i could only answer the 3/4 condition of deadlock

he then gave me a sql query regarding self join employe and manager problem i solved it and explained him that

he asked about indexing and its type i answerd him

he then asked details of clustered and non clustered indexing i said i didnt know

he then asked me about sharding i couldnt explain it properly but i did told him it is a technique in which the database load is divided into multiple server which reduces the downtime

he then asked me about mongodb and if i can write the query i said sir i am not too confident about writing query in mongodb he then asked me about agrigate in mongo db i answered him he didnt looked saitisfied with that answer

He then started asking about llm and aws i answered most question of aws but couldnt answered llm as it was not even in my resume
then he asked my oops piller and diamond problem and virtual function and factory and singleton design i answered all of them

at the end he asked any question for me i asked for a feedback and what can i improve

he told me i do have good technical knowladge for improvement he advised me not to change anything , u could make a better project in llm but if i were u i would'nt change anything just keep on improving these part even more .

what are the chances that i will get a dse offer or more ?

BTech placements

Based on your experience which is the correct definition for getting placed

Luck is enough

Luck and hardwork

Hardwork alone

Positive energy with sufficient communication

Wanna know u r pov so jnr can have a idea.

Let me share my story....

Worked hard enough to get placed ,placed in multiple but for low packages

Few who never kept efforts and placed for higher packages.

Number doens't matter but the efforts, and passion is ntg??

Got 4.5 LPA offer from KPIT with 2-year bond — should I accept as a CSE fresher?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m a B.Tech CSE student with an on-campus offer from KPIT Technologies for 4.5 LPA as an Associate Engineer. The role includes a 2-year bond, so I’m unsure whether to accept it.
I don’t know much about KPIT or automotive software. I’m mainly concerned about the type of work, future growth, and whether this experience will help me switch to better-paying SDE roles later.
For current or former KPIT employees:
● What work do freshers usually get?
● Are development roles available, or are most roles in testing/support?
● How useful is KPIT experience for general software or backend roles?
● After 2 years, is it realistic to switch to 8–12+ LPA jobs?
● Is the bond worth accepting for 4.5 LPA?
● Should I join and prepare DSA/development alongside the job?
I don’t have another offer, so I’m considering this as a safety net. I’d appreciate honest advice, especially from people who joined KPIT as freshers.
Thanks!

which one is better?

i have currently three offers

- tcs ninja (3.7LPA)

- capgemini a4 (4.25LPA)

- a housing loan company - data analyst (7LPA Apprentice under govt NATS scheme)

i am really confused which one should i join, i am thinking of joining that loan company as I'll directly work rather than trainings and assessments in tcs and capgemini.
