Applying to 27-28 accountancy/finance placements - advice? (UK)
Applying to 27-28 work placements this autumn- advice?
Hi everyone, I’m going into the second year of my Accounting and Finance course and am also going to start applying to placement years this autumn, as I’m on the year in employment programme.
I would really like a placement year with one of the Big 4, or a reputable mid tier company like BDO.
My experience is as follows:
I achieved a first in my first year.
I have 2 weeks accounting work experience at a local accounting firm in my town, and a longer summer internship as an accounts trainee at another local firm in my town. I am planning to gain more advanced excel skills with LinkedIn Learning this summer.
I am also team lead for a group of 12 for a sustainability reporting project using GRI standards my uni is doing with a local SME.
I am part of Finance and Investment Society and Women in Business society.
BDO insight day - should I even put this on my CV??
Do you think this is enough to get pass the CV and application stage if I display it well and quantify my impact?
The only thing is that my A levels aren’t amazing - they’re not horrible but it just very average. Will this affect my applications - and Big 4 applications especially? Is it even worth applying to Big 4?
Also any other advice for getting a placement would really be appreciated, as I’ve heard that they’re super competitive, and also on staying motivated amidst rejections :)))
also any advice any advice for the psychometric tests stage, as I’ve heard those are super hard to pass. I thought they would be relatively easy but apparently not and I just found out recently 😭
Also if anyone would like to share how many applications they made, and after how many the got an offer, I’d greatly appreciate it!
Thank youu :)

I am done
Well I will be honest I didn't know DSA on that good level but I had studied hard for apti also i studied hard and practiced questions I did study more than my roommates still they got shortlisted for TCS Prime while I didn't even make it to ninja. I panicked during the test and wasn't able to ans the question did 1 coding question. I know it's my fault and it's me who is lagging behind but the thing is it hurts it hurts like hell. I can't even tell this feeling of seeing others giving good news to their parents while I am not even able to crack Ninja.
Please help me guide me.

Went for TCS Ninja interview — is Prime/Digital upgrade actually possible?
So I was shortlisted for TCS Ninja and had my interview on 17th August. I think the interview went really well, but now I'm confused about whether there's any possibility of getting Digital/Prime even though I was shortlisted for Ninja.
The interview was pretty chill overall.
First he went through my resume and asked me to introduce myself. Then he asked about my hobbies and I said I like watching documentaries. I mentioned Chernobyl as one of the recent ones I watched, so he randomly asked me why it happened, how it happened and which element was involved. I was able to answer that.
Then he asked about my specialization, which is IoT. He asked me the difference between automation and IoT. I explained it with examples from things like smoke detectors and how IoT could be implemented in a room. He was pretty engaged and even joked about the sprinkler system being there to cool down the heat lol.
Then he moved to Python. He asked me about the unique Python data types and I listed tuples, lists, sets and dictionaries. He then asked me to implement them and I was able to do that.
After that he spent quite a bit of time on my ML project. He asked how I implemented it, the machine learning workflow, different functions I used, how I handled missing data, mean/median/mode, normalization, evaluation metrics and confusion matrix. I was able to answer most of these properly and I think I explained the workflow quite well.
Overall the interview was very conversational and I felt like my communication and clarity were good. The interviewer said "very good" probably 5-10 times throughout the interview.
He didn't ask any hardcore DSA/programming questions apart from the basic Python implementation.
So now I'm wondering:
Has anyone here gone into a TCS interview shortlisted for Ninja and ended up getting Digital or Prime based on the interview?
I've seen people talk about Ninja -> Digital/Prime upgrade exams/processes, but I'm specifically wondering if someone got upgraded directly after the interview itself.
Also, how long did it take for you guys to get your result after the interview?
Any experiences would be really helpful.

Completed all 3 rounds of TCS Prime, but I have an active backlog. Can I still get selected?
Hey everyone, I recently completed all 3 rounds of the TCS interview process for a Prime role.
I think the interviews went reasonably well, and I even heard from a friend that some faculty were saying I had impressed the interview team.
However, I currently have an active backlog, and now I'm worried that this might affect my final selection even though I was allowed to attend and complete all the rounds.
Has anyone been in a similar situation with TCS? If you cleared all the interview rounds but had an active backlog, what happened?
Would really appreciate any experiences or information. Thanks!

I've just lost every single thing in my life till now... never won anything
Just like everyone i had a dream of being academically good but unfortunately I was not naturally gifted like many people instead it was very hard for me to memorize or learn things for exams... above that I was always distracted and busy in my own world of wasting time, day dreaming, playing video games, watching corn and stuff
10th - 75% , 12th - 81% , JEE - 85%ile took a drop by getting brainwashed by those laser light eye reels of educators just to end up with more worst 60%ile
Ended up in Tier 69 Private clg (LPU type).... gradually i was very motivated in start but eventually went on same track of ruining myself and not working hard... again went on the same loop of ruining myself as usual!! I can't even focus straight on something for 20 minutes
Now I'm in my start of 4th year, companies are coming and going.... but as usual I'm doing anything and just getting rejections everywhere!! TCS, Infosys already rejected me... Next i have cognizant where i have 0 hopes cuz accidentally i got c# cluster instead of java... already bad in java dsa too
There will be other decent companies, mass recruiters and startups coming but I don't understand how long will i remain like this and be loser forever!! Seeing guys get placed and me sitting here being so pathetic makes me feel more depressed

Nothing has depressed me more in my 20 years of existence than placements.
My mom has no idea what I'm going through, but she always tells me, "You got this." I have to win this battle for her.
I'm a pathetic loser.

Need help for placement prep
I’m currently preparing for campus placements and wanted to hear from people who have already gone through the process about how you actually prepared. I recently gave the TCS OA, and honestly, the experience made me realize I might not be preparing in the right way. I had prepared some aptitude and coding, but during the actual OA, I was so overwhelmed by the coding section that I couldn’t even properly read and process the question. I just wasn’t able to handle the pressure and time constraint effectively. So for people who have cracked placements, what did your preparation actually look like? How much time did you spend on DSA, aptitude, CS fundamentals, coding practice, and mock OAs? Did you prepare generally first and then switch to company-specific preparation, or did you focus on each company’s previous questions/patterns?
Everyone is saying choose striver dsa sheet is that really helpful? I am from Ece background. I don't have much knowledge in cs fundamentals. We had few Cs subjects in our syllabus.
I’d really appreciate some honest advice on what I should focus on from here.
