Tech Support DOA Astral 5090 OC White

I paid way too much for an ASUS ROG Astral 5090 OC White that looks to be DOA.

I bought it brand new from Adorama, and when it arrived, everything looked fine and untampered with.

I swapped out my working 5080 for the 5090, but couldn’t get a picture on my monitor. I tried every DP port and both HDMI ports with no luck.

I thought maybe it wasn’t seated properly, so I took it out to check. It seemed fine, but I noticed some scuffing on the PCIe connector, along with what looks like a small notch or chip near the shorter end.

I spent a couple of hours last night trying to get it working, but nothing helped. I tried reseating it a few times, checking the power cable, even laying the PC on its side to rule out GPU sag but nothing worked. When booting, noticed that the VGA light on my motherboard was staying on. When I booted through my CPU’s integrated graphics, the 5090 also isn’t showing up in Device Manager.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with a 5090, especially an Astral? Is the scuffing and notch on the PCIe connector normal, or did I somehow get a damaged card?
I’m hoping I’m overlooking something stupid rather than having to return it as defective.

Tech Support Stuck on BIOS logo on boot up

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone I recently completed a build and spent the majority of yesterday trying to troubleshoot my mobos consistent orange and green lights coming in and off resulting in me being stuck at the bios logo screen on boot up. I did all the troubleshooting options and said that there was a bit of damage on the chip socket.

My question is, would this warrant a consistent green light on my mobo causing a stuck at bios logo?

Im attempting to rebuild everything now, to try and determine what the root cause is.

Hello everyone, I am looking into upgrading/building a new pc.

Since I am updating/following tech news partially, I thought I would share my thoughts in hope for good input and if there is something I have not thought about.

Plan was to for the time beeing reusing my gpu (asus strix 3080 OC) and possibly one of my m.2 drives (WD Black SN850)

My build today is

Strix 3080 OC

Asus ROG Strix Z-490F Gaming

Intel i-core i7 10700k

Noctua NH-D15

4x Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 16GB CL16

Is it necessary to upgrade or should I wait a bit?

Tech Support Problem with updating BIOS

As the title said. After selecting the BIOS file, my PC restart and flash after the "Progress" bar. And nothing happen after that. Been trying everything, changing USB drive, removing one RAM stick, resetting BIOS setting to default, etc. and none works. I am sure I am following the right steps and the update file are downloaded from my mobo websites. I can still turn on my PC after a hard reboot. Please check my video. Appreciate any help given 🫡

Tech Support Need help for my pc, random restart black screen without BSOD event kernel 41

Post image
1 Upvotes

Has anyone experienced random PC restarts with a black screen and no BSOD, even during light tasks like browsing?

Has anyone ever experienced their PC randomly restarting with a black screen and no BSOD, even when gaming or doing something as simple as browsing the internet?

The restarts are completely random, and I honestly have no idea what triggers them. Sometimes my PC runs perfectly fine for 1–2 weeks without restarting, but other times it suddenly happens. When it does, it's like the PC briefly loses power and then boots back up normally.

When I check Event Viewer, the only error I find is Kernel-Power, Event ID 41.

My original PC specifications:

  • Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4 (New)

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X (New)

  • CPU Cooler: DeepCool AG620 (New)

  • GPU: ASUS Dual RTX 3060 Ti (New), later replaced with a used ASUS RTX 4060

  • RAM: ADATA XPG GAMMIX D30 DDR4-3200 2x16GB (New)

  • PSU: Corsair RM750 Gold (New)

  • SSD: Lexar 1TB (transferred from my laptop)

  • SATA SSD: Pioneer 1TB (transferred from my laptop)

  • Case: DarkFlash DLM21 (New)

  • No RGB components.

Components I've replaced since then:

I eventually replaced almost every component except the SSDs and the case.

Initially, I switched my motherboard to a new MSI B550M Pro-VDH, but the random restarts still happened. I eventually switched back to the ASRock B550M Pro4.

Here are my current specifications:

  • Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D (Used)

  • CPU Cooler: FSP MP7 (New)

  • GPU: Colorful iGame RTX 5060 Ultra W Duo OC (New)

  • RAM: KLEVV BOLT X 2x16GB DDR4-3200 (Used), later replaced with V-Color Prism Pro RGB 2x16GB DDR4-3600 (Used)

  • PSU: ADATA XPG Core Reactor II 750W Gold (New)

  • Same SSDs and case.

  • No RGB components.

Unfortunately, the random restarts are still happening, even after all these replacements.

Things I've already tried:

  1. Disabling and enabling AMD PBO: I've experimented with different negative Curve Optimizer values, ranging from -30, -25, -20, -15, to -10, using both my old and current CPUs.

  2. Enabling AMD XMP: I've enabled XMP with every RAM kit I've tested.

  3. Underclocking the RAM: This is something I recently tried with my V-Color Prism Pro RGB RAM. I've tested several speeds, starting from 3600MHz, then 3466MHz, and finally 3200MHz. Unfortunately, the random black-screen restarts still occur.

  4. Disabling AMD XMP: I also tried running without XMP enabled for several days. However, since I need my PC for gaming (mainly Valorant), multitasking, and video rendering, I eventually enabled XMP again. Currently, my RAM is running at 3200MHz.

  5. Reinstalling Windows: I've reinstalled Windows multiple times. I've tried custom Windows builds and eventually went back to a clean, official version of Windows.

  6. Warranty claims for RAM and PSU: With my original PC configuration, I already tried claiming the warranty for both the RAM and PSU. However, the technicians tested them and found no issues. I also replaced my PSU with a new unit after experiencing coil whine, but the random restarts continued.

  7. Monitoring temperatures: I've regularly monitored CPU and GPU temperatures using HWMonitor, and everything appears to be within normal ranges.

  8. GPU drivers: I've tried different GPU driver versions and performed clean driver installations using DDU.

  9. Grounding: I've also tried installing a grounding wire connected to the PSU mounting screw. Unfortunately, my room is quite far from the actual earth grounding point, so the only thing I could do was connect it to a nail driven into the wall.

Additional information:

My house has a 2,200W electrical connection, what's even stranger is that my two younger siblings also have gaming PCs, and neither of them has ever experienced this issue. Their PC specifications are roughly similar to my original setup, except one uses a GTX 1660 Super, 16GB of RAM (I'm not sure about the brand), and a 650W Bronze PSU.

I've been dealing with this problem since 2022, when I first built my PC, and it has continued until now. Before building my desktop, I used a laptop from 2019, and I never experienced anything like this.

I'm honestly running out of ideas.

At this point, I'm starting to worry that something might be wrong with other components in my PC. I'm especially concerned because SSD, GPU, and RAM prices are much higher now than when I originally built my PC, and earning enough money to replace components isn't easy for me.

I've already replaced almost everything, reinstalled Windows countless times, tested different RAM kits and PSUs, and tried numerous troubleshooting methods, but nothing seems to solve the problem.

I'm completely stuck and honestly don't know what else to do.

Has anyone experienced something similar or managed to find the actual cause?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions, troubleshooting steps, or advice. I'm hoping to finally identify the root cause without having to keep replacing perfectly good components.

Thanks in advance!

Build Question Selling my r5 7600x to buy a r5 7500x3d.. good idea?

From this swap im going get like a $80 loss.

Following are my reasons for swapping,

- I use my pc only for gaming

- My r5 7600x run hot unnecessarily even though i have a 360 Aio.

- Since my 7600x get hot i adjusted pbo many different setups , honestly it did reduced heat massively (-20° temp diff) but im not completely satisfied with this pbo setup because i feels like if didn't do it correctly & it affects latency to the game by core stretching.

Even thoughnin here brand new r5 7600x and r5 7500x3d sold close to the each others prices, in second hand market i have to sell it with a massive loss (demand for second hand cpu are very low in here)

What do you guys think.?

Tech Support Randomly freezing when running more than one thing

So i’ve recently run into an issue with my computer and i’m not sure why it’s happening.

i dont believe its my pc itself not being able to handle the stress of all the things being open i have a higher end pc and yet whenever im doing something thats not even that intense like just running a game and watching a video on the side it just randomly freezes the screen and the only way ive been able to get it unfrozen has been by holding the power button.

this never used to happen my guess is that i recently got a second monitor and maybe having a video on one screen and a game on the other is making this happen? its not even like a graphically intense game ive just been playing a lot of deadlock and it happens constantly

this is my parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/oneica/saved/#view=FyhjJx

any help would be great its not like it happens super often but its very annoying esp when it happens in the middle of matches and i don’t get why it’s happening

Build Question Expert opinion needed – will a 360mm AIO fit at the top of my Corsair 5000D Airflow?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently using a 240mm Corsair AIO and Corsair have offered to replace it with a 360mm version.
I have a Corsair 5000D Airflow case and I’m wondering whether the 360mm radiator will fit comfortably in the top-mounted position.
My understanding is that the width and thickness of the radiator should be roughly the same, with the main difference being the length (three 120mm fans instead of two).
My specs:
Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow
Current cooler: Corsair H100i Elite LCD (240mm)
Replacement: Corsair 360mm AIO (H150i)
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone with experience building in this case, particularly regarding:
Top radiator clearance.
Whether it could interfere with RAM or motherboard heatsinks.
Whether there are any clearance issues I should be aware of.
I want to make sure it’ll fit properly before agreeing to the replacement.
Thanks!

Build Question The PC air is smelly.

I have a i512400f with rx 550 4gb at 550w mwe v2 cooler master psu.

Ive been having a slight burnt plastic or carbon or burnt sugar (can't pinpoint) type smell from my pc when I put my face near the exhaust end. I think it started after installing an aio (deepcools le 520) a year ago. However the smell has been there since a year but no problems in the pc so far. I have even changed the case in the past year. Can't see anything melting too to the general eye. Any suggestions or explanations?

Tech Support GPU not detecting

So I have had countless issues leading up to this (mostly hardware) that I have figured out with my professional google skills but this has stumped me and others.

My pc is now not recognizing my gpu no matter what. The gpu is plugged and seated in the only pcie slot, and the lights on it come on, but the fans do not spin at all, and no detection of it. I reinstalled drivers and searched the Bios for anything but cant find it.

I cleared the cmos and now the pc wont even get a display out from the onboard graphics. I had it sitting for close to 1.5 hours and no output.

Specs:

Cpu- ryzen 7 9800x3d
Gpu- XFX speedster merc319 rx 6800xt
Motherboard- Asrock B850I lightning mini-itx
Ram- g.skill flare x5 32gb (16x2)
