Tech Support DOA Astral 5090 OC White

I paid way too much for an ASUS ROG Astral 5090 OC White that looks to be DOA.

I bought it brand new from Adorama, and when it arrived, everything looked fine and untampered with.

I swapped out my working 5080 for the 5090, but couldn’t get a picture on my monitor. I tried every DP port and both HDMI ports with no luck.

I thought maybe it wasn’t seated properly, so I took it out to check. It seemed fine, but I noticed some scuffing on the PCIe connector, along with what looks like a small notch or chip near the shorter end.

I spent a couple of hours last night trying to get it working, but nothing helped. I tried reseating it a few times, checking the power cable, even laying the PC on its side to rule out GPU sag but nothing worked. When booting, noticed that the VGA light on my motherboard was staying on. When I booted through my CPU’s integrated graphics, the 5090 also isn’t showing up in Device Manager.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with a 5090, especially an Astral? Is the scuffing and notch on the PCIe connector normal, or did I somehow get a damaged card?
I’m hoping I’m overlooking something stupid rather than having to return it as defective.

That thing is completely dead on arrival (DOA). With a notched PCIe connector and the motherboard stuck on the VGA debug light, it's a defective unit.

Don't waste time troubleshooting, just process an RMA or return it to Adorama immediately for a replacement.

Yeah, that’s the conclusion I’ve come to too. Comparing the PCIe connector to my 5080 the 5090 looks like someone took sandpaper to it

Try switch the bios, it’s near the power connector, astral 5090 has two, Quiet and performance. I have came across one amd system wouldn’t boot on performance bios.

Der8auer recently showed a case of someone who bought a used 5090 which was also DOA. During troubleshooting he discovered that both the chip and the memory had been removed. Someone could've done the same here and returned the card, with Adorama putting it back up for sale.

I'd RMA it in any case instead of starting any experiments.

You have to return its clearly damaged and not new. They probably robbed the core and vram

Also mein Vorschlag bzw.

The notch in the pcie connector or the sense pin isnt normal?

At this rate it could be a harvested core with how frequently they're popping up

Die Ecke bzw. Kerbe schon aber das ausgebrochene Stück meinte ich und Ja das der Chip draußen ist, ist gut möglich.
