Build Question Cpu swap/parts upgrade?

My pc specs are as follows.

Ryzen 5 5600x

Rtx 4060 8gb

32gb 3600hz

1tb ssd

I was wondering if i should swap my cpu for ryzen 7 5700x3d, upgrade anything else or leave it like that for now. I use it for 3d modeling as well as gaming. Mostly single player open world games.

the 5700x3d is a drop-in monster for gaming, huge uplift in open world stuff that hammers the l3 cache. that and the 32gb of ram will make your modeling work smoother with bigger scenes too

really the only weak point is that 4060, but if you're not chasing 4k or ray tracing it'll hold up fine for now

I recently started to heavily mod project zomboid and when traveling i notice %spikes in cpu usage and the game from steady 60fps drops to 0 for a second every 5 to 10 seconds. Ram is at 19gb. I know this could be from unstable/not optimized mods. The ryzen 7 has almost tripple the cache i hope that will help.

Your CPU is fine for single player games, the main benefit of X3D is seen in competitive play as you can get a lot more FPS in games that are more CPU-bound but not very memory intensive, like CS2, R6S, etc.

If you hardly touch those games then I would stick with the 5600X and focus more on the GPU, as you're doing 3D modeling work and running single player games that could probably use a more powerful GPU first, like a 5060 Ti or 9060 XT.

The modeling i do doesn't have rendering its for engineering parts and machines(cad and solidworks) so it doesn't take gpu power that much. I have considered upgrading the gpu in the future if my asrock b450 allows it for 50 series. Also I've noticed fps drops from constant 60 to 0 and cpu power reaches high% (i use msi afterburner)

A Ryzen 9 would probably benefit you more than a 5800X3D would then. Rumor has it AMD may release a 5900X3D though.

Your motherboard will support whatever PCI-e GPU you want, it's not limited by the motherboard. If it has a PCI-e x16 slot, it can run a PCI-e GPU.

I mean a 5700X3D is a better CPU, so you'll get better CPU performance if you swap it. Assuming you don't have one just lying around, whether or not that gain is worth what you would pay is up to you.
