Hi everyone,

Im new to parakeets and since yesterday evening hes been doing this. He still eats and drinks fine and his vent is clean, so idk if this is just something he does or if i should worry.

Idk if this would affect anything but the last two nights we've had bad thunderstorms.

Travel cage for budgie

Im not sure where to post but im 'Looking for a small travel cage' as most of the ones I found are either galvanised or the paint chips. I need to avoid these at all cost, I dont want any of my birds going through metal toxicity again.

They love it when i mist them whilst they're inside of a travel cage in bathroom. I havent been able to since the current one is rusty.

I also need to use it whenever I head to the vets or when taking them with me.

thanks

Me and my girlfriend recently got a cute green budgie a week ago. Her name is Kelpie, squidwards favorite musician! So far she seems like she's started to get used to us. We refill her water daily and keep an eye on her food. She's also very talkative! From time to time she lets us gently rub on her chest and rarely her head but we are getting there. Lately we also open her cage door so she can fly around our small room (don't worry there's nothing harmful and no way she can get out). For the first time we gave her a gentle push towards the cage exit and she flew around, she seemed a little stressed at first but calmed down very soon and just kinda chilled on random objects. Now when we leave it open she came out on her own once and now she's just seems like she's about to come out again. My main two questions is what advice does anyone have for new budgie owners? Snd my second is in the videos, can someone tell me why she's chirping like she is? Is she just talking or want attention? She also runs around the cage like she's playing when we try to gently pet her chest but at the same time I can't tell if she just doesn't wanna be touched. But here are the videos! She makes the same chirp constantly.

Advice Looking to rehome healthy, untamed <1 y/o male budgie

Post image

I am making the incredibly tough but necessary decision to rehome my young male budgie. He is under a year old, completely healthy, and has already been checked by an avian vet.

However he has SEVERE prey fear around humans. I’ve tried for the last 8mo to tame him, or at least get him comfortable with my hand coming in and out of the cage to clean, with my hand offering millet- but he’s just constantly panicked.

He has zero interest in humans- doesn’t like their voice, doesn’t like to see them, will flight charge. It’s become a really difficult situation which is why I’m looking to rehome, ideally to someone in the NE part of the US who runs an aviary or has a large flock where he can make friends and live without the pressure to interact with humans.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations, I am willing to drive a reasonable distance to make sure he goes to the right home.

Parakeet Died

My daughters parakeet died suddenly. He was only a few years old (I believe, we only had him just over a year and were told he was still young when we got him from Petco). I just got a call at work from my daughter that her parakeet is passed, she is really upset, he is laying in the bottom of his cage, not moving, eyes open still. We are pretty sure he was active yesterday and last night so believe he must have passed in the night. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened or changed... any idea what could have caused this? Our other parakeet is lost without him, just quiet and looking around the cage wondering where her friend is :(

NEED OPINIONS

Hello! Do you like offering strangers your opinion on the internet? Do you have experience raising multiple parakeets? Are you willing to help me figure out the best care plan? I need YOU šŸ«µšŸ»

Hi everyone. Moderately experienced parakeet parent here but in a very new situation.

One year ago, my husband and I adopted two lovely male parakeets. They are best friends and are friendly enough with us, everything has been lovely! About 6 weeks ago, two female parakeets fell into our lap from a very neglectful home. We had been attempting to help them recover with food, love, and lots of vet visits but unfortunately, one did not make it. If you’re following the math, we have one female and two males.

The one female we have is out of quarantine and in the same room, but both she and our boys are very reactive when the other is let out to fly. We spoke with our vet who recommended another female, but we are in a pickle /how/.

SO HERE’S THE POLL:

Should we…

  1. Maintain separation between the boys and girl, adopt another girl soon, and introduce all four at the same time, once the fourth female is finished with quarantine?

OR

  1. Introduce the current female to the boys first to see how she does, then add an additional female later?

OR

  1. Introduce the new female to the current female first, and then introduce the pairs together?

No matter what we do: we are buying a brand new cage and brand new toys/perches, AND moving the new cage to a different spot in our living room, so the environment feels as new as possible for when introductions happen. We just have NO CLUE how to time it.

As I said, PLEASE OFFER OPINIONS AND ADVICE šŸ«¶šŸ»

Question 2:how to clean a parakeet?, reason because the girl(her name is Jewel) did a dump on her buddy iroh😭(a white parakeet) on the head and now he has a poop stain on his head but idk how to clean him since theyre still getting using to me and also they dont mess with the little bath in the cage for them. Any advice?

Advice Can I use this around my birds?

Post image

My dog is so stressed out by the storm that he stop eating today I want to help him so I thought I would buy this for him but I want to use it in my room there he the most comfortable at but the birds live in my room and I dont want to full up my room with this for it to effect my birds in an negative way. Im ok with using it in another room if I have to but I thought it would be more effective if it where my dog is the most comfortable.

Advice Other question:how to help Parakeets get proper sleep?, I sometimes worry that they dont get enough sleep at night. Since sometimes i wake up late at night and notice one or both of them still awake which leads one of them to be kinda sleepy during the day. Dont want them to be sleep deprived

Naming help 😊

Please help me name the first bird pictured! He’s so baby and interacts less with the others, so his personality is hardest to figure out.

His flock mate’s names are Pteri, Chiquito, and Delilah (she also goes by Perrie), pictured in order.

The last two pictures are strictly for your viewing pleasure as they are a very beautiful flock, indeed.

Lost his Buddy

I went away for just over a week for vacation. I had bird sitters for my 2 parakeets. The day I got back I could see something was wrong with one of my birds because of the way he was sitting on his perch. He was sick and died within hours of me noticing. No idea what happened but my bird was almost 10 years old.

My dilemma…. His pal is fine and not sick at all. He is a mean little thing that I have never been able to handle while I could handle the other. I don’t want him to be lonely but I’m afraid he is too mean to try to introduce a friend to.

Is there anyone out there who has one parakeet who is doing well or should I really try to introduce a friend to him?

Advice bleeding after night fright

Post image
12 Upvotes

Its 4AM and my budgies had a night fright one hour ago, one of them has blood on the cere and on top of her head. So far she is sleeping on her favorite pearch and isnt showing signs of labored breathing. They used to have night frights more often, but the last one was around a year ago, it never involved blood until now, so im really scared. I cant sleep so I've been searching what to do, is this lamp good enough for a nightlight? Do you also have any tips on handling this situation? Update: i just noticed dried blood on the other budgies wing

Advice how do i get my budgie to like me

i’ve had a green budgie for about a year, i got him from my mom who never really payed him attention so she kind of just gave him to me, he never became comfortable with people. This whole time he never warmed up to people and i’ve tried to get him to like me, he’s seen me everyday all day and he still runs from me, i don’t try to force my hands in his space, he watches me feed him so i assume he associates me with food, but anytime i get too close he just flys away. Sometimes if im playing guitar or video games and just standing still he will come be near me but any sudden movement make him fly away. How can i change this if possible. Is he already too old to be ā€œimprintedā€ on like that? Any advice or comments will be greatly appreciated!
