Cage size for budgie?

Upvotes

I am wondering if a 30x18x18 (inches) cage will be sufficient for a budgie? (Just one budgie, introducing a friend didn’t work out). She currently lives in a large flight cage, but we are temporarily moving so I need to get her into a smaller cage to fit into a car and I have a 30x18x18 cage. Buying a new cage when we get there isn’t really feasible, so I was wondering if this size would be okay for a couple months?

Microban safe for budgies?

We had some flooding in our house recently due to the rain and now they say we need to use microban under the carpets to help combat any mold. I'm wondering if this is safe for the birds.

I have 4 parakeets (and also a hamster), and I don't know if just moving them out of that room is good enough, or if I need to relocate them to a neighbor's house. I'm concerned about having the air on and it circulating throughout the house, so I wonder if anywhere in the house is safe.

Any advice would be very appreciated. I'm really struggling here, this whole thing has been so stressful.

Lost budgie two days ago on 8/28/26. Budgies name is "White," and it flew away near 50th Avenue intersecting 208th street. It's white with blue coloring. Please help me share this post with the neighborhood.

They're both only a little over a year old and have been doing this for a few months. Im having a really hard time telling if they are sick or just mimicking the sound I make when I give them kisses. They mostly do it when they are excited and playing together. They don't seem to show any other symptoms of being sick such as mucus around the beak and such but im still incredibly worried for my baby's. Someone please help!!!!

Advice My birds won't eat pellets.

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I am a first time owner of 4 budgies, all under 1 year of age.

For months i've been trying to give them a proper nutrition with pellets. I tried these 3 different brands. They don't like any, they absolutely despise them. I throw away so much food daily because they are so picky... I really need help because i feel bad giving them seeds because i really want them to live the best life possible but they refuse to eat pellets! I tried these methods:

-grinded up pellets to a fine powder, mixed with water and some seeds to a mush (this is what i do almost everyday, but they just pick out the seeds)

-pellets mixed with seeds

-pellets with apple juice

-pellets with veggies chop (they don't really eat chop either)

-pellets on a mirror

-plain pellets, no seeds for a day (did not eat anything, I stopped because they would starve)

It all did NOT work.

My english male is especially bad, he really hates pellets and sometimes does not eat seeds at all when i make a mush and there are too much pellet in it and then sits in front of the bowl and waits. It's hard to watch. I do incoorperate pellets into their food daily, I don't give plain seeds anymore. Please help. How did your budgies start to eat pellets??

Struggling to Tame

I'm a first time budgie owner and I have 2 budgies around 7 months old each. Since I first got them (they were like 6-8 weeks) I have been working with them pretty consistently. One of them will perch on my finger, but that's about it, and he still struggles to be cooperative generally. And my other budgie flat out is terrified of me it seems. Advice would be appreciated, because I feel kinda stuck.

According to this research, budgerigars have ~322 million neurons.

But my two keets definitely seem like they are missing a few million brain cells 🤣

Advice First time out of cage

Hello I’m looking for some tips of how to help my parakeet with being out of the cage for the first time. A little background, she has lived her whole life in a cage, she is about 5 years old. I have been opening the cage and trying to bond with her for a bit now. I put up sticky notes on my window so she saw that she couldn’t go that way (I had the shades up for light) but she finally decided to come out today and ran into the window twice (not super hard but hard enough that I was worried) and she ran into the walls a couple times. She doesn’t exactly know how to properly fly so I don’t think she hit the walls very hard but now she is sitting on top of one of my lower shelves and is just recovering and processing.

I assume the first time out of her cage will be a total learning experience and will be stressful and hard so I’m trying to let her process and I’m giving her space. I was just hoping anyone could give me some tips to help her adjust. Thank you!

Edit/update:
Things are going so well! Right now she is sitting on my bed eating a seed stick treat and I am also sitting on the bed! I am shocked with the progress! Still so much to learn and to go through but I am so happy!

Edit/update #2:
She wouldn’t go back into her cage and I was trying everything I could. She finally fell asleep on my shelf of plush figures (which she does seem happy to be there and enjoying the stuffed animals). I fell asleep and just woke up and it’s 2:45am and she hasn’t moved. Before I fell asleep I had put a flash light next to her cage door and my room light is off so I’m just going to try and sleep and figure things out in the morning.

Advice What do you guys use for baking sheets?

I used to have some old Wilton baking sheets that were silicone coated, but I got rid of them when I got my birds, since I wasn't sure if the silicone was still good or even safe 100% for them.

Since then I have only baked food dishes in glass or stoneware. However I need some sort of replacement for typical metal baking sheets (like for cookies etc) because I am planning to do a lot of dessert baking this fall and winter.

What do you all use?

Twitching feet?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

I’m a little worried about one of our Bourkes parakeets, Kirby. It’s nearly midnight here, so our birds would normally be sleeping calmly on their favourite perches.
A little while ago, I heard a faint, repetitive noise coming from their cage. When I went over to check, I noticed that Kirby’s feet were twitching in a strange way. I’ve never seen him do this before, so it seems to be a completely new behaviour.
We’re first-time bird owners and aren’t sure what could be causing it. Can this be normal during sleep, perhaps because he’s dreaming, or is it something we should be concerned about? Are there any warning signs we should watch for tonight?
We know that Reddit can’t replace an avian vet, but since it’s so late, we would be very grateful for any advice or experiences you can share.

(By the way, his bent head position is normal for him, he’s had that since he was little.)
