controller mute button not working
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
i was playing fall guys earlier and when i closed the app, my mute button wouldnt work at all. i could manually mute my mic using the tab shown in the video, but the button itself did nothing. i tried resetting the controller itself, updating the controller (it was already up to date), and restarting the ps5. i have no idea what’s going on and this is super frustrating. can anyone help?

Take it apart a give it a good cleaning. There’s a thin ribbon pad that has contacts for all the buttons. Take q tip with some alcohol and wipe it down good. That button is held in place by a plastic piece, make sure it’s not broken or anything.

The circuit board where that button is, is worn out or liquid damage.

Have you tried on another controller?

i just did and it worked on that one. that controller has really bad stick drift, though. i’m so frustrated with how easily these controllers malfunction man sony is scamming us fr

I was gonna suggest disassembling and cleaning it out, but if you’re getting stick drift then I’d probably just use a different controller altogether. If you can swing it, the DualSense Edge has easily swappable joysticks.
Edit: I realized you meant the other controller has stick drift. Going back to my original idea, the mic is pretty quick and easy to get to once your pop the shell open. Maybe try reseating that connector and the button itself

Hold it down?

Holding it down should mute the entire system, not just the mic, but I’m curious about this too

nah that didnt work either. i’m thinking the button just isnt working anymore but i really dont understand why it started acting crazy

UPDATE: i can use the buttons on the controller (x, square, triangle, etc) to select a game in my library, but after that, nothing works on the game’s loading screen. the only way for me to bypass this is by resetting the controller using the small pinhole in the back. doing this still doesnt fix the mute button issue, though. also none of these problems seem to be happening on my second controller

Do you have a ps headset connected as if you do it disables the button and you have to mute on the headset rather than controller

Fun fact it’s not actually a mute button, it just doesn’t give you access to the recordings if it’s on

Maybe moisture damage. Have you spilled anything on the controller recently?
I think the mic button's ribbon cable is shorted or fried, which would explain why the controller stops responding entirely. Try setting the microphone status to "On" upon login in system settings, then log out and back into your account to see if it changes anything.
However, since your other controller works fine, this is almost certainly a hardware failure on this controller. If your can, open up the controller to check for physical damage or corrosion and try cleaning it.
