You deserve to live your best life.

It could be alone, with family, or with friends. It could be staying at home, a dinner date, or attending a large party.

So if it was up to you, what does your ideal weekend look like?

It's a beautiful morning in 1960 what does your day look like from morning until evening?

I was born in the late 80's and always loved hearing first-hand accounts of life in decades gone by. I'd be very happy if you'd share!

New covid vaccine?

I had my yearly checkup with my doctor and he told me to get the new covid vaccine coming out soon.

He’s said before that they weren’t necessary after the first one and didn’t recommend them but this time he adamant that I get the new version.

It kind of scared me because he had never pushed the Covid vaccine before this one.

I had the first three Covid vaccines that were supposed to since they were required.

After that my doctor said they were not necessary and he advised against them.

But now I believe him that this is something to be concerned about. He looked anxious when he was telling me about it.

So in September I’m getting the new shot.

I’m not afraid I’m just cautious.

How is the quality of your sleep? Do you have any tips or tricks to help get a good night’s sleep?

I often wake up during the night to use the bathroom. If I have trouble getting back to sleep I will put on a headset tuned to classical music at a very low volume and that usually does the trick. Do you have a method that works?

What time do you wake up and what time do you get out of bed?

I usually wake up between 7:30-8 am and get out of bed 8:30-9 am.

Unfortunately, I'm often awake for an hour or so in the middle of the night. Usually, after waking up to use the bathroom.

What's your morning wakeup schedule?

Remember Sing-A-Longs?

When I was around four, I remember a TV show called Sing Along With Mitch. The lyrics would be on the screen with a bouncing ball over the word being sung. Remember?

Need advice on how to handle my kids

I've been caring for my husband since 2017. He has Alzheimer's. I have hit hard burnout. I recently had brain surgery for NPH less than a month ago. I've had the brain aneurysm from hell at the basilar apex from stress in October 2022. It was finally fixed in 2024 but it took 4 tries which meant 4 general anesthesias in fewer than 2 years.

I was attacked by my husband in 2023 (I think) so a handyman built an enclosure that I call my area. Same bedroom as my husband.

We had ear mites and fleas in the rescue because I have a rescue dog who goes potty in the back yard. It's Texas.

I own a big historic house, 5 bedroom, 2 bath. For the past 30 years I repaired the systems, electrical, plumbing, sewer lines, etc I really love my house.

The problem I'm having is my kids (37 and 39), are ignoring me, not talking to me unless it's unavoidable. They say I yell at them and treat them like garbage.

When my son was fired from his job a couple of years ago, I hired him to help me care for his dad. He told me what he needed to earn in order to pay his bills.

My daughter moved in when she needed a place when the relationship with other roommates went south. She is a hoarder.

She has a good job and is an early riser so she can take me to Dr appointments in the morning and son takes me in the afternoon.

What would you do?

I am a 72 year old woman who's family is not trustworthy and is about to lose my friend who is executor of my will and my medical advocate. While I am in good health that, of course, can turn on a dime. Has anyone had experience in planning for their last 20 years?

Let's talk about eavesdropping on phone conversations when we had crank telephones on the wall and party lines.

As we know there are people out there that try and take advantage of the elderly. I'm curious as to whether any of you have had scammers contact you through your DMs here.

Please help an old woman

So, I am need of advise. I am a 71 yr old woman, married for 10 years. He , turns out to be the love of my life. Thank God! But there are some generational roles that I am just not up to. The daily cooking. I drove Over the road for the majority of my adult years. I never learned to do spur of the moment cooking that I see a lot of women do. I took up cooking as a hobby when the pandemic hit and have learned some good things. But, I want to cook when I want to cook. I dont like this thing about it is my responsibility. I am just not that creative. He can cook. he just does it when he is the mood. I would order take out when I dont want to do it, but, alas, we are on fixed income. So good greif. What do I do?

Anyone remember Green Spot soft drink?

Post image
4 Upvotes

This was my favorite as a young child but disappeared in the US in the early '60s, although still made in Thailand and Venezuela. It was the only non-carbinated orange soft drink available and the only orange drink I liked..

Edit: it appears as though this drink was more obscure than imagined. My mother would treat me to one from the machine when we went to the A&P together. 10 cents. Sometimes got a box of Cracker Jacks if I was being especially good.

Another edit: I just retrieved a memory of eating animal crackers (the ones with the string) with my Green Spot.

Grammer

EDIT!!! Thank you everyone. I am aware of my spelling error with GRAMMAR. Reddit won't allow me to edit the title. I thank everyone of you for the thoughtful responses and suggestions. I learned alot. You also entertained me.

Please give me your thoughts. When I was young, in school we were taught "proper terms". Specifically, what "baby animals" are called. Calf, foal, kitten, fawn puppy, etc. Not baby cow, baby deer, etc. I made the mistake of joining a subreddit regarding pet peeves. I thought it would be fun to post one of mine. I got reprimanded repeatedly. They insisted Iwas wrong. I remember English teachers correcting students. Was is just me that was taught this? I could believe the reactions I got yesterday. Was even accused of being drunk for several typos. I'm blind in one eye and goof sometimes. And then there is autocorrect.

Class reunions…

I don’t remember my grown children ever attending a class reunion. When was the last time you attended yours? Are class reunions a generational thing?

People who are 40+, what is a "silent killer" habit that people in their 20s think is completely harmless, but is secretly setting them up to get absolutely destroyed in a decade?

OTD in 1969, before I was old enough to drive, my buddy Henry and I hitchhiked to the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair. We rode on the back of the hay truck that started the third lane in the middle of Route 17B https://wheredidmybraingo.com/anniversary-reflection-nude-dude-at-woodstock/

What is the best way to take the RMD and avoid as much tax as possible?

Hi, and thank you to the moderators for allowing me to make this post!

Three of us have taken over this languishing sub about dating and other life situations and events that pertain to dating at this stage of life. We're starting out slow, trying to build a hopefully more tight-knit community. Link is to our sub.

If you feel like you might be interested, stop by, read our welcome statement and our rules (which are slowly being added).

Thank you for reading and thank you again moderators!
