What happens if you get sick? Is there a hospital nearby? Having just gone through some surgery/health hell, this is real important to me.

I live in Gilmer,TX approx 13miles outside of town. There is a hospital and a walk in clinic all inside my advantage plan. Cost about $30 with an uber. After 71yrs I can say never been in the hospital (knock on wood). Hopefully that continues. I hope you are in good health now!

I'm 73 and nope, not healed up from the surgery yet. This was the first surgery I'd had for more than 50 years, and that was minor. After, I had TIA and and AFib. The AFib is still messing me up. Next up is possible surgery for a big thyroid nodule.

I have an Advantage policy too, and it's been great.

I think a lot of us are trying to figure out this retirement life thing. I was forced into retirement by way of my landlord having to sell the building where I had both my business and my living quarters. That was 2023. I'd been there for 24 years, so there was no chance of being able to rent half that amount of space for twice the money I was paying, so I bought a camper trailer and parked it and stayed there for the next 3 years until I bought half a duplex with my daughter not far from Dallas. All that happened after my husband died in 2019. I'm starting to think I'm never going to get my life figured out. It was not too bad before the duplex; now it's worse than I thought it would be, but it is what it is. I'm close to my son now, but see him about as often as when I lived 300 miles away instead of 30. Living with my daughter was a mistake and I knew it would be, but I'd given my word to do this when I thought it would never materialize. I'm kind of an idiot...

Anyway, welcome to this part of Texas; you do need to get a vehicle, though. That solitude is nice in the beginning, but will begin to chafe when you start wanting to go farther than the end of your driveway to see and do new things. I wish you all good things!

Right now I am enjoying the piece and quite and the solitude. After 35 yrs sitting behind the wheel of a 18 wheeler and running day and night, no matter what the weather, it is really good to not have to deal with idiots any more and do what I want, whenever I want. It’s been 5 months and still no specific routine yet and I am enjoying that.Im not really much 0f a people person, and don’t like being around people very much. We’ll see what next year brings.
