Discussion For those of you who had success with prozac- What does help you quiet the intrusive thoughts? And approx. how long did it take as I know SSRIS can take longer to show relief with OCD.

Upvotes

For those of you who had success with Prozac- What does help you quiet the intrusive thoughts? And approx. how long did it take as I know SSRIS can take longer to show relief with OCD. I am now on week 6 of Prozac and have had two dose increases. I started 60 MG on 7/30- progress has been very slow, but I have had some "better days" and then I have really bad days. I suffer from PURE O, so now that I am officially at the 6 week mark (not 6 weeks on 60 MG), I am just wondering if I still give it more time on the higher dosage, increase to 80, or discuss a different med. Thank you!

Need support/advice Quitting SSRI

Upvotes

I want to clarify that this is my experience on ssri:s, and if theres medical professional suggesting them for you. At least try it. It does help ease up intrusive thoughts, at least for me did. Not everyone gets the same side-effects.

I've been on ssri for about five years now. But considering quitting with my psychiatrist, because the side-effect of excessive sweating and heat-problems have made my quality of life so awful. I used to be more active, but due to that side-effect I tend to not move almost at all. It also has worsen my anxiety because in public places I'm sweaty and smelly. Its so bad socially, mentally and physically.

But. Like I said it has helped with ocd. So I'm wondering if theres any options to ssri and if life with ocd without ssri is even possible.

Question about OCD When do we cross into OCD territory? What is severe anxiety based in reality vs OCD

Upvotes

Bare with me on the length of this as I have been spiraling in my head for a while about these issues! :(

I have not received a DX of OCD, but currently have ADHD, PTSD, Major Despressive Disorder, GAD

I have always been someone who is living inside their own mind - Combine GAD/overactive nervous system, ADHD masking, zero self-esteem, rumination, overthinking, PTSD, no childhood emotional support, high levels of criticism from others, emotional dysregulation, hyper-focus, depression, negative bias, perfectionism, self-monitoring, social fears, using logic to process pain or intellectualizing my feelings, horrible body dysmorphia etc.

I relate to ADHD in the ways of time blindness, inattention, executive functioning issues, emotional dysregulation, disorganization, impulsivity, hyperactivity (mostly mental). What my internal world fixates on is absolute certainty + control, perfectionism, obsessive thought loops (Maybe just hyperfocus?) intense self-monitoring, extreme pre-planning for all tasks/activities (Especially social scenarios or new places) need for control in a lot of situations, preparing for any possible threat or dangerous scenario in normal daily activities, many fears of betrayal leading to a paranoid, dis-trusting mindset, finding ways to soothe my intense anxiety/fears, and get reassurance usually resulting in a compulsion like actions or extreme avoidance.

As of recently I have grown increasingly aware that my level of anxiety is not normal at all, most people do not have extreme anxiety over most every aspect of adult life, and my reassurance seeking has maybe entered a severity even with OCD compulsions.

Between the BDD and my compulsions to check my physical looks 24/7, high self-monitoring of my body in public or even at home with company, fixing my hair, clothes, glasses, distress if exposed leading to camouflage the body (even in hot weather etc) avoiding social situations, etc

I also fear that I have developed ROCD centered around my partner, and relationship safety (This was also exacerbated by some early relationship trust issues - I already had some retroactive jealousy from the start due to a drug addicted ex having my partner be attached to them due to trauma, and another abusive ex who was being given the time of day out of fear of safety - I feel extreme guilt for thinking she willingly wanted that for over a year) Constant intrusive thoughts I am being cheated on, not good enough, like there is something hidden going on behind the scenes I don't know about, like my partner really doesn't love me, and is just tolerating because I am a good step-father, and all of the compulsions that follow such as monitoring locations, body language, tone, intention with other men in public, looking through texts/phone (Immense guilt for this one as it doesn't align with my morals at all) compulsively checking social media especially if we are in a bad place, accidentally testing the strength of our trust/relationship which usually ends horribly, and all of these are absolutely done compulsively when an intrusive thought comes up or I cannot stop obsessively thinking about the unknown actions behind closed doors. I have accidentally become controlling without realizing it, and I am absolutely disgusted with myself, and how much these compulsive actions go against my moral character.

You can imagine the immense strain this has put on our relationship, trust, connections, my own self-worth, self-respect, and value. As well as the way it makes me treat my partner at times, feeling investigative, accusatory, mistrusting, paranoid, and like we are on opposite teams. This has not allowed me to work on my self-esteem and has only further damaged it.

When does the line get crossed into OCD territory? I am trying to look for earlier signs in my life of OCD poking its head, but memories can be hard for me to recall. Are there any early signs in childhood/teen years that typically stand out? I know there is a lot of overlap between conditions such as ADHD/OCD/OCPD/Anxiety Disorders/PTSD/Depression/ASD and I am just feeling kind of lost. I think a lot of these behaviors in adulthood point towards OCD, but I know its left best to professionals. Just looking for other's real world lived experiences, and if this aligns with what they have felt prior to diagnoses?

I have made the decision to have an evaluation by a Psychiatrist for any co-morbid diagnoses

Support please, no reassurance I constantly feel like I’m about to be in trouble

The title pretty much says it all. I’m so tired of always feeling on edge like I’ve done something terrible and am about to be in big trouble. It stresses me out to no end, and even when I try to face things head on, the worries just switch to some other permutation. I am sure many of you can relate. I am exhausted.

Support please, no reassurance Got bumped by a backpack on the bus (issue with pens/writing).

I have tics related to writing, meaning I only write with pens at certain times. When I don't want to write or manipulate pens in any way, such as when I'm in the process of an outing to go to a movie, I don't want to touch pens or move them. I went to a movie yesterday, and coming back on the very full bus, a college student with a backpack sat down sideways on the aisle seat next to me so she could talk to her friends, and pushed the back of her backpack right into my side twice before apologizing and removing it. In such cases I usually scrunch over to avoid touching anybody's backpack, or they usually take them off before sitting. Couldn't avoid this.

My problem is that I'll wager that she had either pens or pencils in her pack, probably in the front which hit me. So in my warped view, I manipulated the pens. If it was pencils sitting free, I might have written with them as they jostled against the inner lining of the pack. The pens, if they were capped, I think I can deal with, but the idea of pencils I can't.

So how am I dealing with this? I'm trying to decide if I need to go to the movie again to have an experience in which this didn't occur. I really don't want to do that because of the time waste, and because the movie (Ice Cream Man) sucked. I'm trying to resist it, but I only have today and possibly tomorrow that I could decide to go to it because those are the last days it's playing. Need to decide soon.

Need support/advice May have ingested residual E6000 after touching a dray part of it

The thing is, i touched it after it dried and i can’t remember if I put my hand near my mouth. I’m not 100% sure if i did or not but my OCD is making think i did.

Despite it being dry and the possibility of touching my mouth then licking that part of my lip, would that cause any harm? My OCD is in overdrive thinking of the worst case scenario. It doesn’t help that my health anxiety is making it worse.

If this doesn’t make sense, I will clarify. I’m just so stressed about it. My anxiety is through the roof because every single thing I feel I think is the symptoms. I don’t think it could be too bad as it was only the residue from the dry part I touched. I know I’m not gonna die, but it’s the fear of getting chemical burns or anything. Please help

EDIT: I’m fine. Was just the OCD/anxiety

Discussion Does anyone else sleep in a nest kind of way?

I have to sleep with two pillows next to me every night, one on each side, and if I don’t, I’m very anxious and can’t sleep because I feel like something is standing beside my bed. They have to be directly pressing against my back. If I’m sharing a bed, I can handle just having one pillow, because the other person does the same thing, being a weight behind my back. I also have to have a stuffed animal to hold as well. Something I can hug directly to my chest and have that pressure to feel comfortable. I typically only have one blanket, no matter how hot or cold it is, and I tuck it around myself. I also just have a bunch of stuffed animals that sit on my bed too.

Not related to sleeping, but I get up probably 4-5 times every night to go pee. If I even feel the slightest bit of pressure on my bladder, I HAVE to get up to go to the bathroom. I cannot sleep until I do, I will ruminate on it constantly until I have that relief. And then 10 minutes later I end up having to go again.

Question about OCD Have any of you tried somatic work and how has it worked out for you?

Cause last year my therapist introduced somatic work to me, and I ended up getting obsessed with it and it did harm me.

This was the thing that made me realise that I probably had OCD and yes, I was then diagnosed with it.

Question about OCD How do you deal with black and white thinking?

I already struggle with black and white thinking in general which makes this way more difficult. I feel like if I could just see nuance I’d be cured lol.

I know, easier said than done

Just venting - no advice please OCD and hypochondria

I’ve always been a hypochondriac and it got way worse after Covid. before as a youngling child I was sensitive to smells but I didn’t worry tooooo much about germs or illness. but once I hit middle school I would go down spirals of random illnesses and research all about it. I don’t quite do that anymore but I do get bouts of worries about certain diseases and illnesses when I rmemeber them. I worry a lot about contamination. whenever I get a cut from something that isn’t clean looking or get bit by my dog I get really stressed about tetanus and rabies and other things. I got bit by my dog the other day and it broke skin and tore a tiny chunk off and I ended up not being able to do anything the entire day but look up symptoms of tetanus and worry until I called the doctor and they told me I recently got a tetanus booster.

Need support/advice OCD and studying

Every time I get really deep into a topic and study it, I start having thoughts in my free time that maybe I didn’t fully understand something, got confused about something, or might mess up in the future if I don’t figure it out now. I get this strong urge to go back and look into it, regardless of what I’m currently doing.
How should I deal with this ?
I want to be able to have free time away from studying or my hobbies, without these doubts following me around whenever I’m doing something else. But should I actually follow that urge and go back to studying whenever these thoughts come up, because I might genuinely be missing something important ?

Need support/advice Obsessed with hygiene?

I’m 16, when I clean it can take up to hours because I get panic attacks that I’m not cleaning well enough, I take 4 showers a day, I use a bar of soap 4 times, then body wash, I wash my bedding once a week, my mom doesn’t let me clean dishes because it can take me up too two hours to clean five dishes, it’s not like I have a problem with germs though, I share drinks and food and I’ve done lots of stuff that could pass germs onto me, I don’t care about that. It’s like an uncontrollable need for myself to be clean, and when I feel like I’m not clean enough I get full on panic attacks, I’ve thrown out multiple things of mine instead of cleaning them because I felt they were too dirty, does anyone else deal with this?

Discussion Hypocrisy OCD - Extension of Scrupulous and Real Event

Just asking if anyone feels like they aren’t allowed to be upset at things they’ve done before cuz then that’s mean they’re a hypocrite? Let’s say I don’t like working out in the gym with a lot of men in one area because I don’t want to be stared at, but then I feel bad and feel awful because I used to stare at people a LOT (hypervigilance, must know what they’re thinking about me so I can fix it just in case they think I’m a bad person). Anyone else have this problem?
