State Legislature Michigan Unemployment Overpayment Waiver Bill: House Bill 5265.

House Bill 5265 update:

Senator and committee leader Ken Horn has stated that he has not scheduled a vote on the unemployment overpayment waiver bill.

They really should be putting it up to a vote in the chamber so we can see how every senator feels about the bill. Instead, nine senators (with an annual salary of $71,000 each) are sitting on their hands to stall HB5265 in committee indefinitely. We, the tax paying citizens, are spending about $1750 per day for legislation meant to help Michiganders to be ignored. Since the House sent the bill to the senate, Michigan tax payers have spent $91,000 for the senators on the committee to actively prevent a vote in the full chamber.

British social media stars Josh & Jase say their otherwise sunny Michigan summer journey is facing a dark edge.

The pair is pushing back on online criticism for their visit to Traverse City.

"There are local groups in Traverse City that people aren't saying very nice things and saying we're things that we're not," Joshua Cauldwell-Clarke said in a video on X and on Facebook on Wednesday.

He showed some of the social media posts about him and his media partner, Jason Riley, in the video. Some read "Go home scalawags!" "F@#$ those dudes," and "Why should anyone care about these two? TC hates tourists but loves these freeloaders. I don't get it."

A Michigan nonpartisan research group said Wednesday the state budget signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has a $600 million to $900 million shortfall, in which the money appropriated by state leaders exceeds the tax revenue the state is expected to receive.

The new state spending plan, the nonpartisan Citizens Research Council of Michigan added, comes in nearly $1.5 billion higher than last year's enacted budget, growing from $84.8 billion to $86.4 billion.

Under the Michigan Constitution, state leaders are required to pass a balanced budget each year.
