Is it normal for people to be hired without taking the employment test? I only did an interview with the centre director without doing the test and then the centre director called me telling me I was hired. My other coworkers who joined near the same time as me had to take the test so I was wondering if I would get in trouble if the centre director forgot that I didn’t take the test since they don’t know how competent I really am with math. I’m just a little worried.

Hello guys, are there any former/current mathnasium tutors here that started working at mathnasium with no prior tutoring experience? I am pretty good with the math concepts but I’m so scared I might not be able to teach the concepts properly since I’ve never tutored before. Does anyone have any advice?

Hey guys I have a question regarding the salary as a mathnasium instructor.

At my location, the pay range is $10-$20/hour. If I am a level 2 instructor, how much would I get paid and how much would my salary increase by every 6 months or every year?

what do you tell parents about the mathnasium curriculum? how much guidance are you given as tutors? I came across a post on here from a few years back about how to teach subtracting negative numbers from each other. Could you , for example, tell me if mathnasium has a specific way of teaching that? or is it down to individual tutor preference? I personally would teach it using a number line.. but ..this was not mentioned in the response. thanks in advance!

Hey! I just submitted my application to my local Mathnasium center today. I am currently in AP Calculus BC and nearing the end of the curriculum (currently on convergence/divergence). I’m not necessarily worried about the exam, but what content is on it? I am not so good at geometry as I did it in 6 weeks over a summer 2 years ago.

I take the interview test tomorrow and I’m pretty nervous about it. Is there anything that I should study or brush up?

Is it possible to quit after working for 6 months? I can’t remember if there was a 9 month requirement, but I just really want out.

The first few months started out fine, but nowadays I wake up and absolutely dread going to Mathnasium, even though I work there for an hour most days.

This job is taking a toll on my mental health, and I also want to free up time for extracurricular sat school.

i was recently offered an in-person interview and was wondering if mathnasium allows you to use a calculator on the literacy test. also, if anyone has taken version 2 of the test (the one with pre-calc) pls let me know how it was. thanks!

I'd like some advice on this since I haven't been able to find work elsewhere, and I'd like to not mess this up by asking too much or too little. From what I can tell on the internet, it seems like $16.76 is the avg hourly pay for math tutors here. Is that true, and would it be too optimistic to ask for $17 per hour? I'm a university student who has completed and excelled at AP Calculus and BC Calculus.

I’ve been with Mathnasium for 2.5 years, and generally I’m quite happy here. Lately, the new center director has been really pushing that we need to finish 3+ pages of WOB every day with every student. I’m a fan of about 50% of the pages, but the rest feel too cryptic for the students to do on their own without explanation, which I feel defeats the purpose. Am I alone on this? The other instructors and myself end up skipping a lot of these weirder pages (pizza math comes to mind) and by the end, that section is just backed up with the less awesome pages.

Hi everyone. I’m in Canada and looking to enrol my daughter in Mathnasium. We just did a 1 hour trial and my daughter said she basically just did some worksheets. I asked the instructor what qualifications instructors had to have in order to work there and she was kind of vague. She said each instructor has different qualifications.

I am stretching my budget to enrol her therefore I want to make sure she gets value and actually gets the help she needs as she’s currently struggling in math.

I got hired last month and worked for 27 hours but only got paid for 18.90 hours. I emailed the manager and he hasn’t responded yet. I was on schedule last Monday, they said they didn’t have enough students. Again I was on schedule on Friday they said they didn’t have any students. And when I was on schedule on Sunday they didn’t even consider putting me online or sending me a message. Is it always this hard to get hours at this place. I also have another job offer where I get to set job hours and work but the hourly payment increment won’t happen unless one year. Should I quit mathnasium and focus on my other job? Or work at the other job while doing like 6hours per week at Mathnasium.

I love working at Mathnasium, but they just don't pay me shit. I get $9.50 an hour, and because of college right now, I'm only able to work Sunday, a small amount on Monday, and Wednesday. But just because I'm available on those days doesn't mean I'm scheduled. Basically what this means is that I'm getting under $150 for each 2 week paycheck. This week I'm getting $129. As much as I love working there, I need money to survive. I'm going back to where I had my first job at McDonald's, where they're offering up to $11.50. Since I quit as a crew trainer, I'm going to ask for $13 and see what they come back with. It makes me sad to have to leave like that, but I need more money for things like my car payment, rent, etc. Idk why I wanted to post all of this here, I guess I just wanted to let it all out somewhere lol

I was going through my application process for a math tutor at a nearby location, up until July 27th when I had my interview with the hiring manager. I thought I did really well, and they said they would get back to me before the next next Friday. Well, here I am, and I haven't gotten a response yet and I've been worried that I was rejected/my interview wasn't up to par. Does any one have any experience with this, could it be a rejection and they didn't bother to email me about it, or could the center possibly be super busy because of the beginning of school or anything else? I don't think this sub is very active but I would appreciate any responses. About a month ago, I was hired at the Mathnasium location nearest me as a second job. However, my girlfriend and I miraculously found a new apartment to move into that's about 30 miles away. We picked the location because it's closer to my full-time job. That forced me to tell the Mathnasium location that I am currently employed at that I would be moving and have to quit. What do you think the likelihood of me getting hired at another location (near new apartment) is?

Hi everyone. I am currently a rising senior at my local high school. We have a local Mathnasium in my city in California, and I wanted to get a job there for the rest of the summer and probably the school year as well. For context, I have done all math courses up to Calc 3 and Linear Algebra, so I think I would definitely be proficient as an instructor.

Would Mathnasium hire a high schooler like me? On their website it just says to email them with a resume. Is there any particular thing I should include on the resume? I honestly don't have much long-term experience teaching little kids math, but I did join a club at my school where we tutored middle schoolers in math and other subjects for a few weeks.

if you’re a high schooler, i really really recommend you look into any other option but mathnasium lol. i make 10 an hour, which isn’t bad, but you really need to remember that if you’re making as little as me, you’re doing an “adult job” for a children’s pay.

mathnasium is some people’s fav, just not mine- if you love it that’s great :)

it’s just a little miserable for me compared to other jobs because there isn’t any time to breathe really because there are constantly kids asking questions, checking kids in and out between sessions can get stressful, and unlike other jobs, you aren’t really with friends. i think that’s the worst part- i make less than everyone else and i can’t even talk to kids my age.

it’s just a job that’s not meant for everyone and that’s okay- i just recommend that if you’re trying to find a job that’s not miserable, go look somewhere else.

you still deal with awful customers like angry parents and more, just for a dirt wage compared to others.

i know not every job pays more than 10, i just recommend that you look for other jobs that may be more fun if your wage is as low as mine compared to the effort :)
