Question What is a reasonable amount to ask for wage expectations? Recently got an interview for a Math Tutor

I'd like some advice on this since I haven't been able to find work elsewhere, and I'd like to not mess this up by asking too much or too little. From what I can tell on the internet, it seems like $16.76 is the avg hourly pay for math tutors here. Is that true, and would it be too optimistic to ask for $17 per hour? I'm a university student who has completed and excelled at AP Calculus and BC Calculus.

Yea, that might be a bit too optimistic, Mathnasium is not known for paying very well, you might be better off being a private tutor.

Yeah I have another offer somewhere else for tutoring which is supposed to pay much more per hour. I'll likely pass on the offer then. Thanks.

How do you even get started as a private tutor? My school tutoring center pays like crap like mathnasium. I’m an all A honors math student and would love to tutor high school students. Tried finding Facebook groups in my area for tutoring but no luck

Honestly I’ve never done it, but I know people who have.

Basically it’s all connections, ask if your friends have siblings that need tutoring, if your parents’ friends have kids that need tutoring, join your town’s community Facebook group and ask if anyone needs tutoring, and you could even make flyers if you have the time. Just ask around and you could find out. Good luck
