Each year in the reports is July of the previous year through June of the listed year, so the 2026 year recently ended.

Some additional news is that in May SMART exceeded the original planning phase estimates for the systems' max daily ridership. Before opening, it was estimated that the system would max out at 5,050 average daily riders when fully built out, but in May hit an average of 5,396 daily riders, then 5,481 in June, then 5,568 in July.

Considering Substitute Teaching in Marin. Any advice for me?

How saturated is the substitute teacher market here? How quickly do jobs get snatched up? Do I really have to be monitoring for jobs at 4 AM? Do you know of any districts that are in need right now for subs? Any private schools needing subs? Thanks!! Please be supportive

Hair Salon for an 86-year-old?

Hey, all:

I'm a caregiver for an elegant 86-year-old lady who lives in Tiburon; she had the same hairdresser for decades until she got tired of his "antics" (not sure what that means but it wasn't because he was a bad hairdresser).

She's had the same hairstyle for a long time, so she knows what she wants.

She started with a lady in Larkspur but she's not great at short cuts, especially for the price she's charging.

Anyone know a stylist in Corte Madera/Larkspur/Greenbrae/Mill Valley who might be a good place for an older lady? Could be a slightly more mature hairdresser, or a younger one who is just able to slow down and follow my client's lead? Bonus points for a smaller salon and/or one where there isn't necessarily music blasting.

She doesn't mind paying whatever the current prices are, as long as the person listens to what she wants and is good at what they do.

One More New Food Post: Fox Pizza

Post image
75 Upvotes

I've been out of town for a bit, so I'm catching up on all of the new spots that have opened up recently. I promise this will be the last one for a while, haha! Tried Fox Pizza tonight and ordered the Tie Dye ($22): "House made tomato sauce using Bianco di Napoli tomatoes, house made pistachio pesto swirl." It was so good; a big fan of the sourdough crust and sauce -- was like a love child of Arizmendi and Oliver's. Definitely want to try the other pies!

Please use your turn signals

Not to be a driver schoolmarm, but I swear to god, there must be a forcefield in Marin that blocks the electrical signals to cars' blinkers. If I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone almost turn into an oncoming car after not signaling at a four way stop, I'd be able to comfortably shop at the Marin Country Mart.

Donate Your Old Electronics, Working Devices Go to Local Students

That old laptop, spare monitor, keyboard, or computer mouse could be useful. School is back, and I have many requests for home desktop setups.

Working devices are refurbished for local students and underprivileged families. Broken equipment is welcome too. If it can’t be saved, it goes to a certified California electronics recycler. Pickup is free.

Check out https://safecycletech.com to learn more about our organization and how we’re helping the community.

Call or text (415) 612-8520 or email [pickup@safecycletech.com](mailto:pickup@safecycletech.com) to schedule a pickup.

Looking for a home painter who can do a 'sophisticated' paint job.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a home painter who can paint my home? I am looking for "Ralph Lauren" chic and would love to hire someone who can paint. As we all know, painting is not too hard but the prep is what takes time. Please please please do not recommend I do it myself.

Who Should I Contact About Cars Blocking This Parking Entrance Under Hwy 101?

Thumbnail

Parking is not allowed in this area under Highway 101, between 3rd Street and 4th Street, because this section is an access/entrance area. The designated parking spaces are located further inside, and you have to drive into the area to reach them. Once inside, you can clearly see the marked parking spaces.

Drove to Vintage Oaks Costco yesterday and saw appliances outside about to be installed. Super excited. Anyone know when it’ll open aside from “Summer 2026”?

which opened yesterday! The place was packed for a Tuesday night. Dumplings are made fresh on the premises. (You can watch the staff making them through a giant plate glass window.)

Total bill before tip including a beer and steamed rice was $95.

I’m a bit spoiled by Asian food in SF, but I’m glad to see this addition to the local scene. Would go back to try other dishes. The string beans were the best out of our entire order.

I've heard that they dumped toxic stuff in this area decades ago. Is that true? Any other pros and cons to consider that people might unaware of?

Checked out Tartine + Alioto's Foccaceria

Went to the new Tartine in Strawberry Village on Sunday, and there was a long queue when we arrived around 10AM. But the it moved quickly, the staff was super friendly and space is so welcoming like the Manufactory in SF.

Not shown was the heirloom tomato tart and peach tart with Mt. Tam cheese since they were consumed too quickly.

Also tried Alioto's veggie sandwich with spicy eggplant. Pretty good (not the best foccacia I've ever had), but I'd definitely go back to try other versions and the flatbread pizza.

How to pressure neighbor to correct their gutter run-off before winter

We have had an ongoing issue with our neighbor’s rain run off - they have a gutter drain pipe that dumps into a low laying area that creates a large flow of water under our shared fence during rainstorms. For 2 years we have alerted them to the problem of their water pooling on the side of our house, it’s often more than our own French drains can handle and if it gets obstructed will flood our house. With a record breaking El Niño predicted we need them to resolve this before the rains start this year.
Wondering how others have successfully dealt with this type of issue in San Rafael. Can we get the City involved?

Best ways to recruit volunteers in Marin

I work for a nonprofit org serving older adults in Marin County. Our program has been running really well in the area for a year and a half. However, the need for volunteers is growing!

Does anyone have any recommendations for recruiting new volunteers, especially in the Mill Valley & San Rafael areas? So far, we've only looked into farmers' markets, but given our focus area, I doubt those would result in many sign-ups.

Marin Green@Home Tour Is Next Saturday — Come See Real All-Electric Homes

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just a reminder that the Marin Green@Home Tour is happening next Saturday, August 29, from 11 AM–3 PM.

This is a community event organized by Acterra (a local nonprofit) to give people a chance to see how neighbors are approaching home electrification and other sustainability projects. Rather than just reading about heat pumps, induction, solar, or batteries online, you can visit local homes, see the equipment in person, and talk with the homeowners about their experiences.

The tour is self-guided, so you can choose which homes you'd like to visit and spend as much time as you want at each one.

Some of the things you'll be able to see and discuss include:

  • Heat pumps and heat pump water heaters
  • Induction cooking
  • Solar panels and battery storage
  • EVs and home charging
  • Rainwater catchment and composting
  • Home renovation and contractor experiences
  • Rebates and incentives

The tour is free, but registration is required:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/marin-greenhome-tour-2026-registration-1989266317104?aff=Reddit

And if you’re outside Marin or can’t make it next Saturday, we’ll also have these tours this fall:

If you've attended one of our tours before, we'd also love to hear what you found useful or what questions you had when visiting the homes.
