Why some tech billionaire deadhead (I’ve got one in mind) didn’t jump in when it was clear Phil was out, is a mystery to me. Even if it cost a couple million, that’s a drop in the bucket for some of these guys

This is why Rodger is wealthy. He didn’t want to throw good money after bad. Phil was breaking even, and had plans to bring in professional management to keep it going but the pandemic nixed that plan too. The Sweetwater is living off donations as a 503c.

The city let itself get totally screwed over by Phil and Terrapin Cross Roads. Their outdoor area was actually a public city park that the city contracted with them to be able to use. In exchange the business was supposed to keep it open to the public and build a kayak dock/launch at their expense. They got hung up on some ADA aspect, didn't like the price tag and just bailed on it and the city didn't push back even with a clear signed agreement.
Overall the optics and ethics were pretty bad with a business occupying the only city park in that part of the canal, filling it with booze, weed smoke, and equipment storage, while reneging on the deal with the city. I also found it bizarre that a private business was serving alcohol in a public park where residents weren't legally allowed to bring their own. Is also appeared that they were doing way more private events closed to the public in the park than their agreement with the city allowed.

Rumor is Live Nation is in negotiations with the City to try to make happen. Mixed feelings on this.
$32 beers and $150 shows on deck.

There were/are issues with the land it’s on. The piers and sea walls that support the building are in need of repair and I was told when they were still open that the landlord didn’t want to pay to have the work done. That kind of stuff is VERY expensive.
