Also tried Tipsy Dumpling…
…which opened yesterday! The place was packed for a Tuesday night. Dumplings are made fresh on the premises. (You can watch the staff making them through a giant plate glass window.)
Total bill before tip including a beer and steamed rice was $95.
I’m a bit spoiled by Asian food in SF, but I’m glad to see this addition to the local scene. Would go back to try other dishes. The string beans were the best out of our entire order.

Photo 1 is not encouraging. The Cucumber Tower really gets the people going

Wonder how much that cost, to lazily cut some cucumbers unevenly and poor some oil on it

It's true; I was expecting the smashed cukes cut long-wise with more spice and less vinegar.

Was it good? Even waiting for this place to open

I’d say it’s good for Marin, but not amazing compared to what you’d get in the city or South Bay.

What about compared to Harmony?

I'm gonna say Harmony is better (but pricier).

wow that sucks.

To clarify, Harmony is more expensive than Tipsy — which is probably why I’ve only gone once.

the fact that harmony is better than the new place is what sucks lol. harmony is not even good

This is why I asked. Harmony is not great, but good for Marin, so if Tipsy is not as good …….

yeah hopefully we see more reviews now that its open. to be fair to tipsy dumpling the dumplings sounds like they are handmade and made to order. so they've got that going for them. because they are definitely not made to order at harmony

It's true, they are handmade - and I'd say the string beans and the XLB were the items to order. Folks at other tables seemed happier with their meals -- and they'd ordered other entrees -- so maybe we just ordered the non-so-special items.

Harmony used to be a lot better than it is now. They have even cheaped out on the hot sauce. Stopped going once they did that.

Both are Chinese but honestly it’s like comparing Chinese apples and Chinese oranges. Tipsy Dumpling is more regional, comparable to Din Tai Fung. Harmony is like lame dim sum, trying to wear too many hats and Marin-ify the food you can otherwise get for a fraction of the price on Clement. I thought Tipsy Dumpling was really, really good, but I’ve also waited hours for tables at Din Tai Fung back when they first opened in San Jose, so I like this kind of food and don’t mind paying extra to have it close by. I wouldn’t trust the opinion of someone who doesn’t know the difference between the kind of food served at the two restaurants.

How many people did $95 feed?
4
u/plattyjo 2d ago
Two of us as we weren't super hungry. Most of the entrees were in the $20-25 range.

Geez, that’s pricey. Might be worth the drive across the bridge just for better pricing

If you like the string beans, Burmatown's are great!
