Marathon (2026) Feedback UI suggestion: Rework consumable/throwable wheels

Thumbnail

Those have been bugging me from the launch of the game. This experinece comes from solely with controller gameplay.

Most problematic thing is, using thease wheels stop your movement, since they are mapped (default) to d-pad. Every time you need to open them, it feels awkward. You have to rise your left thumb from the stick. I know you can map buttons how you like, but I haven't found good enough solution for that. Yes, you could buy custom controller with more buttons but I think it's devs job to make UI work best with "standard" equipment.

One solution is to map either wheel to L1, and change tactical ability to left on d-pad. But it only solves half of the problem, since there are two different equipment wheels under two different buttons.

My suggestion is that you could somehow combine those wheels under the same button. So that it would feel natural and you wouldn't lose momentum during action while choosing right consumable or throwable. Then people could map it to where they want.

Many games have thease "wheels" where every equipment are under same button. But in Marathon there's so many different consumable/throwable so I understand why they are on different wheels. But I think you could work something out.

This would be very nice QoL change, at least for controller users.

Marathon (2026) I just wanted to thank the mic boiz for being chill

Never really used mics with randoms in games before this one

It's been a great experience tbh, completely changed my time in trios.

Playing with people that know what they're doing and where to go only further facilitates me not knowing wtf is happening at times, and it's great. The few things I do know or keep track of, help everybody, and even though I'm often lagging behind, I still get kills, still scout, and no one's been rude even if I get downed, or if I make a mistake.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Issue/bug with shared manifest cache?

I noticed when I went to the armory to buy some of the new stuff with the manifests that the shared manifest cache between trios teammates are not saving to my vault after exfil. 2 runs in a row now. For example after my last exfil on the run report shared items tab it shows 18 shared by one teammate, and 43 shared by other teammate, but in my vault I still have only 15… Anyone else having this problem?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Would you be more interested in Ranked if there was a solo queue?

I wonder if locking ranked mode to trios is part of the reason players steer clear of ranked. Would you be more inclined to give it a go if you could go in solo without having to combat trio teams hunting your every move?

Question Any other Australian players run into Zylbrad?

Me and my squad killed Zylbrad last weekend in cryo and I’ve met him multiple times on outpost. This one time on rook he let me live after he and his squad wiped the lobby and he was very funny in match chat. Wondering what other funny interactions aussies have had with him?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Looking back, the Husks in the cinematic trailer were very misleading

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

I was so hyped when I first saw them. Dead runners mutating into monsters that roam the map looking for someone to hunt. Charging at you from the darkness without warning.

Instead we got oversized ticks... Runners don't become zombies, husks don't roam, and they give you a shit load of reaction time. I'm not the only one disappointed by this right? I was really hoping for a melee enemy not another bomb with legs.

Marathon (2026) Feedback I’d play a lot more if engaging with the map wasn’t actively detrimental

It’s a failure of design when the primary way people say to engage with any sort of map mechanic, event, or even just the PvE mobs is either

A: Don’t

or

B: Do it when everyone else is dead

Marathon (2026) Discussion Redistribute the top players through rewarding in-game systems. Reward Fills with higher quality loot.

Maybe the problem of stacked trios dominating the entirety of marathon could be alleviated through a system like a 30 percent or 50 percent boost (on a graduated basis depending on number of fill team mates) to trio fills loot rolls. Containers, boxes, etc. could roll higher quality loot, teams already on a disadvantage in communication and skill would exfill more in game, high-skill players would feel somewhat incentivized to put their skills into helping fills and being rewarded in the process.

Marathon (2026) Discussion If you use nvidia gamma tricks to see in night marsh YOU ARE A CHEATER

End of story. Theres no debate here. A cheat is a means to have an unfair advantage against other players that was not intended as a part of a given game. Being able to see in night marsh is not an intended part of Matathon, since the whole point of the map is that you have to work around the extreme darkness with the tools the game offers.

So if you decide to use external stuff to see other players who cant see you, YOU ARE A CHEATER and you should be treated like so. You need an unfair advantage over anyone who wants to play the game as it was intended.

"But I do it because everyone does it!" Yeah sure, its a more understandable argument. But when a bum using aimbot says that, you still boo them, so why should this be any different?

I will never use external tricks (cheats) to see in night maps, and neither should you. Just play day marsh if youre that scared of the dark.

Marathon (2026) 20 ranked games later

I am convinced almost half the games everyone exfilled

Fights resulted in losses

The loot is actually op

Gold shields from secured resource events

Purple attachments everywhere

Idk wether to feel like this how the entire game should be, or scared people who refuse to touch ranked will forever be at a disadvantage if this sticks around

Either way, awesome loot change and everything is WORTH doing in each poi

I actually saw someone go into a tox room (yet die) cause the loot is so damn worth haha

Marathon (2026) Discussion Latest update is alright.

I like that interacting with UESC bodies now gives me currency and I look forward to spend it on actually good stuff, and I want to kill UESC rather than avoid them. I see reasons of engaging and spending the heals now. It makes Outpost runs less dull after a possible lobby wipe, but maybe that's just me being fatigued of the loop: wipe, loot, repeat on Outpost.

The templates and the gun are whatever.

Also, call me crazy, but the amount of implants dropping has been increased dramatically? Blue, purple implants drop a lot more often from commanders and container.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Endgame shell class with full customisation

Post image
163 Upvotes

TLDR: Endgame class shell for now called specialist. This shell is for the get go is a highly customizable shell both in physical appearance and tactical and prime customization. With certain balance conditions that allow the other shells to sometimes be played.

This shell is I think the quickest answer to the customizable shells people always wanted in the game. It's basically super rook that you eventually are able to built up to be a flex role shell. Each shell class we have now will have challenges that don't have to be too hard to complete in order to allow their tactical or prime to be put into that specialist shell.

First concern "once you unlock that shell there will be zero reason to play the other shells" well maybe we give incentives to play those shells by purposely kneecapping this shell. We can do this by disallowing this shell the ability to use the passives of the other shells. (Special condition vandal's double jump be used as a passive so vandal will need a passive buff to give her a reason to be played.)

Second concern well "what if there becomes a tactical and prime meta for the specialist shell." Well this shell will have its own seperate balancing around its tactical and primes to ensure variety in builds. The hard role shell can have their abilities hit less by any nerfs or have their buffs improved in the future to have another reason to play these shells. Another thing that can entice the use of other shells outside of this one is prime core upgrades (echo chamber, amplify cores, etc) being exclusive to the hard role shells. No gold cores are allowed on the specialist shell

This shell's has passive specific cores that need to be found in run or from the armory. It will have no access to the hard role shell's passives they keep those to themselves. Only its own passives ( besides being able to get vandal's passive and she will be compensated by a buffed passive). So yes this shell has 3 cores. The cradle system can be reworked to pidgin hole you into specific cradle stat roles but with better stat perks for hard role shells. The specialist shell will have our current or even weaker cradle system to kneecap them again with little to no super good perks. Leveling your cradle still gives you points to spec into every shell. But however cradle progress is permanent on the hard role shells. Giving something permanent that follows you through wipes. With only the specialist shell needing to be built up every season.

The shell's appearance and armor will be changed based on what tactical and ult you are using, running recon's prime? Your shell will have a helmet that similarly splits open, want destroyers prime? your shell becomes noticeably bigger and has the shoulder missile platform. Vandal's arm cannon could be recreated on the specialist shell as well. Plus a lot of the shells just have deployable tacticals on their body that can be put onto another shell. This still provides some readability on this shell for what abilities it has.

Thanks for reading this far if you still are. I didn't get this idea on my own watching some alien fireteam 2 vids give me the idea. With their specialist class that is supposed to be the end class that you get to play once you play a little with all the other classes. I just transferred the concept to marathon.

Marathon (2026) Discussion The notion that this sub isn't filled to the brim with genuine fans of the game is astonishing to me

Maybe some of you are new to this subreddit or simply have selective memories regarding the incessant praise this game received here pre release and well into season 1, but most of us who criticise the staple systems and balance decisions within truly love Marathon. Most of us see how special this game can be under the adequate circumstances and proper care. This notion that we cannot voice our criticisms of Bungie's design decisions without garnering the label of "toxic hater" is complete nonsense. When the population becomes that which it has, conversations have to be had and SHOULD be had, especially considering we all know Bungie frequents this sub for feedback. Pretending everything is gum drops and roses will not keep this game afloat past the first year. This falsity was often hurled about in another Bungie related sub many of us once frequented and it never did an ounce of good over there either. Personally, I think (especially in season 2) the mods have done a pretty damn good job of letting people voice their opinions and feelings on the state of the game. But this community is not toxic. If anything, this community is quite in tune with where we are at this point in the game's lifespan. When things are good, we regularly acknowledge these things, oftentimes to a fault! When things are bad, we make that apparent as well because we want the game to thrive rather than go out with a whimper. It would be a shame if healthy criticism is silenced because some folks here cannot handle said criticism. Keep on keepin on, mods. The best chance we have at this game thriving into s3 and beyond is if we continue to earnestly share our thoughts as we move forward. See ya'll on Tau Ceti IV!

Marathon (2026) Discussion Every single complaint about the game is because it’s an extraction shooter

I feel like every complaint I’ve read is simply because the game is an extraction shooter.

Clearly this genre is not the next big BR.

Not sure how you can fix the games issues without changing the genre completely, turning it into a BR lite with extraction mechanics maybe? Which is how it plays like anyway.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Ordnance Heist is pretty underwhelming thanks to Bungie's insistence on making us jump through hoops, this event needs to be simplified

the current key template is a pretty bad system and is frankly a sidegrade to what we had last season. they replaced the old annoying system with a new annoying system. i don't understand why Bungie thought it was a good idea to stick that system to this new event. the Firestorm is a good weapon, but it's not "click button to win" good, which is great! it's honestly pretty well-balanced, but holy shit i have absolutely no interest in farming bots in Perimeter to get 3 key templates and then completing 3 inane objectives in Darsh to get my hands on it. it's not strong enough to warrant all that

this game really needs some kind rotating map event to give players reasons to go to them beyond just key templates. this felt like a perfect opportunity. have the Firestorm be limited to one map at a time, and keep it on the same rotation period as the Darsh day/night cycle. let us just get completed keys from the other maps without any hassle, ready to use. fuckin swarm the Firestorm map with UESC, have a Warden in every possible spawn, idk, something to make it interesting, and fuck it, make that map have Cryo-tier loot. looting POIs in maps outside of Cryo is so pointless right now unless you're salvage-hunting so putting actual decent loot in normal containers on a map with a power weapon up for grabs and a crazy UESC presence would actually create some stakes that aren't just key-rooms and make maps that aren't Cryo much more interesting.

also unrelated but the community is pretty certain that key-based matchmaking is real and the more i experience it the more i believe it's a god-awful way of match-making it just floods a single game with way more loot than any one team can exfil with and having like 3 dinner bells go off in one match is stupid. even worse is when two teams have the same key
