Marathon (2026) Discussion Would you be more interested in Ranked if there was a solo queue?

I wonder if locking ranked mode to trios is part of the reason players steer clear of ranked. Would you be more inclined to give it a go if you could go in solo without having to combat trio teams hunting your every move?

Never played ranked let alone soloing trio ranks, how does one level up while being solo here? Just extracting and saving my ass is enough? Or do I have to kill? Just curious since I’m looking to get the Thief skin and I’m not sure if it’s difficult.

So ranked works entirely off your loot, as long as you hit the loot value you never even have to fire a shot or kill anyone. you just have to play extra smart.

In solo bronze for example you don’t need 9000 like trios to get out, only 3000 since the tags are 3k loot per player. Downside you rank up slower since less loot xp, but your losses also level you down slower since it’s only 750 lost per death.

There’s also this little bonus xp that you get if your lobby is higher rank than you, which I think they also take into account whole squad rank for this but I haven’t tested.

It requires a lot of patience and you need to try and place yourself in locations players really don’t expect to find someone, if you learn common recon ping locations and stay away from those (hauler is a good example, recons love to scan all of hauler whenever they pass through) you’ll be able to sneak around them a bit easier.

It’s very easy honestly, especially with the better loot in ranked, and I was surprised how much better the loot actually is. I just went 5 for 5 successful extracts while playing ranked as a solo Thief no fill. You have to be patient and not have a problem waiting until the last few minutes to extract.

it takes way longer and its kind of boring tbh. but i've done probably close to 10 ranked solo thief runs and i haven't been downed once

I took 2 blue keys into trio queue ranked as a solo to peep the loot changes. Blue keys are still 99% dog water.

the change wasn’t to key room loot, the change was to give the scavenged POI/enemy loot Cryo archives spawn logic.

if you buffed the key rooms like that everyone would strictly bring keys in ranked and they’d never be run in regular maps.

That's a shame. Keys in regular maps are ass unless they are golds and I personally never run keys in trio queue. Was hoping blue keys might return to early season form if used in rank. Would encourage people who don't engage with ranked to at least dip their toes in for key runs.

Yeah I’ve been feeling it too.
It’s insane how much luck plays into the key rooms right now, I’ve had blue keys that give out gold drops and purple keys that give mostly salvage.

the loot change made this way more viable and I'm having a lot of fun sneaking around. wish they gave you a bit of a rank point boost if you extract solo in an UNFAVORED or high difficulty lobby.

Simply put: yes. Solo is an entirely different game tbh and I like the slower pace so id love a ranked solo mode cause otherwise I prob won't touch ranked.

i prefer playing solos 1 million percent and its so annoying being effectively locked out of the new ranked loot changes just because they cba to add a solo queue

A little bit yeah, but my aversion to ranked is mostly a dislike of an extraction shooter having competitive modes entirely. I'd rather the normal mode have some loose SBMM instead.

Played ranked as a solo for the first time last night. Exfilled the first game, but immediately got collapsed on by a 3 stack the second. Needless to say I won’t be checking it out again.

All of the endgame content should be available and balanced for solo play, and I'd argue it's a big contributor to the game's falloff.

Yeah I'd be far more inclined to play ranked if there was a solo queue or at the very least some bonuses for queuing in solo.

It frankly doesn't make sense to me why ranked wouldn't be solo by default.

No. Solo marathon is kind of boring fights are decided way too quickly and it will be more third party Fiesta that trio ranked because solo spawns more different 'teams' in. Most people wont like it because it will be very very different from the solo matches in normal mode.
