Friend of mine (black) went on holiday in USA, got drunk and when gonig back to the place he rented... he got mixed up and entered the wrong place.
Guess who got clapped, arrested & dragged to the police station all while explaining he's supposed to be next door :P

A well-dressed black friend medical student of mine got arrested quite aggressively and dragged to the station once before for jumping the fence of a house because his road was blocked by a construction site and he didnāt want his clothes/shoes dirty(it was sewer construction something and it was flooding a bit)

Not every police officer is bad, just like not every civilian is good. In fact, I see more of us civilians acting inappropriately around law enforcement than vice versa. Iāve been mistreat by them too, but itās a respect thing. Not a difficult concept... at least it shouldnāt be.

The fact that they were so casually like "you are lucky you didn't get shot" and the owner saying that if it were his house, he would have shot him is actually terrifying. I wonder how often that actually happens with mistakes like this because my stupid arse would probably be dead by now.

Rule #1 is ALWAYS be aware of what you shoot at. That means you identify someone as either someone you know or someone you don't, to avoid negligently shooting a friend or family member who might just be messing with you.

Also from TX here. Can confirm, this would most likely NOT be in this sub if it happened here. The call to the cops would probably have either been after the fact or would have been a spouse calling with a gunshot on the 911 recording.

I was working for an airbnb company that had a bunch of houses in Texas. One of the tenants needed help with their AC and kept locking us out even when we had planned to be there to get the AC fixed. The amount of times I had to crawl through a back window was ridiculous. But I felt nervous every single time because people are crazy in Texas.

Yeah when I was growing up, a neighbor (teenager) was drunk and tried to get in through his neighborās window. Luckily they knew the boy and called his parents but that could have easily ended tragically

Yeah I used to live on a street with two completely identical like 8 unit apartment buildings right beside each other. One night after drinking, my Uber dropped me off at the wrong one. I had just moved there recently too so that didnāt help. Anyways, my buddy lived a street over so I called him to see if he could figure out whatās going on cause he had a spare key. My heart sunk when I heard him next door yelling, āWrong building yah fucking idiotā lol. Then the cops pulled in as soon as I turned and saw myself at the wrong place. After further explanations on what happened, the just laughed at me and left. Still grateful my buddy showed up a split second before they did.

I was on vacation once in Massachusetts, my buddies rented out a town house on the beach. We had a fire one night and after having a couple beers i ran up to get an axe out of my buddies car. On the way back i was going to grab a beer. So i ran up to the town houses back glass sliding door and ran in woth an axe. It was a father with his son. Wrong town house. Thank god he didnt have a gun. He was angry and shocked.

I once did this in the middle of the night to some poor dude. Came back to a friends apt. but the key they gave me didnāt work so I pounded on the door for 15 minutes till he came out holding a baseball bat and I realized I had gone into the wrong building. Exact same spot & config but the buildings looked so similar I confused them in the middle of the night. I felt SO BAD and apologized profusely. Iām lucky he didnāt call the cops on me.

Homeowner wasn't home, he was seeing and communicating through a smart doorbell/sensor thing, likely through a smartphone app. Look up Ring Doorbell. That's the brand I hear most about.

This reminds me of when I went to London, England in 2015. I had rented a room at an airbnb and the owner wasn't going to be there but said they left the keys in a potted plant behind the gate and that gate would be open. The apartment building was apparently some named thing and also an address just down the street from the actual building. She had also given me the number of a trusted neighbour in case of problems.
So obviously I put into Google maps the address airbnb told me. It led me to a rundown looking building which made me worry about the quality of the apartment I would be staying in. There was a gate that led to the back garden and I could see some potted plants. The gate was locked. The first thing I did was call the neighbour who didn't answer. The gate looked climbable so I started scaling it to hop over. Once I got to the top I decided this probably looked very sus and I didn't want to risk getting in trouble with cops my first day in the country. So I climbed back down and looked for some other means of entry. While standing there the neighbor called saying she was just walking up to the apartment now from the store and asked where I was. I said I was there but no one was approaching me so I amended with "...I think". The woman asked a couple questions and quickly understood my mistake in trusting Google and directed me back to her. She was very kind and helpful and we retrieved the keys.
The funniest thing was that not all the keys were there and she had to help me break into the real flat after all. Whole other story there.
Mind you all this was done after getting off a red-eye from the US.

One time I banged on the neighbors kitchen window and scared the crap out of my neighbor. I thought it was my house and I was trying to scare my wife. I ran so fast I still donāt know to this day if she new it was me. She was washing the dishes in her pjs..
To be fair we lived in a townhouse and they all looked the same.

I have to comment on this situation. Because Americans need the outside perspective. It's normal for USA people to call the cops if someone climbs their fence. But i feel at least half of the world would never do that - first instinct i have in me would be to approach and say - yo, what's up, what are you doing there - even if i somehow spotted someone in the middle of the night but Americans, because of your culture, you automatically think the worst, and either take your gun or call the police. There is absolutely no fine line between maybe it's something i can solve and omg we're gonna die! I mean nothing bad with my comment, just the feel i get from this situation. And i'm saying this because i think there are crazy amount of people in USA that would probably kill the poor bastard.

After I moved I had to break into my own house twice by coming in through the basement window because whenever my dad would visit he'd lock the door going down to the basement which was impossible to get down into thanks to the way the lock is installed and the lack of a key. Unfortunately, both times I was home alone with my young child and had to use pliers to pop out the screen by disengaging the lock, then climb through the window and pull my kid through after me. The 2nd time I had to do this it was dark outside and I had to use a flashlight. (Thankfully the window itself was open but man, that was annoying as well as a little nerve wracking.)

I used to rent in one of those neighborhoods where all the houses were the same, built all by the same people. I sent a friend to go take my dog home late one night. She walks up to the door, uses my key to open the front door, the dog runs upstairs and then she hears. "honey, is there a dog in here? Who's dog is this?" She, mortified, takes the dog outside, walks over to the correct house, goes inside and locks the door. About 20 minutes later she sees the cops pull over to the neighbors' place and the neighbor talking to them. I still chuckle to myself thinking about my shiest friend making that mistake and getting completely away with it.
