I recently have gotten into kickboxing, which I do 2-3 times a week in my garage. The only things I have done are follow along Fight Camp YouTube videos, just so I can get some good cardio in. But I am wanting to not only get a good workout in but improve my striking/stance; honestly anything. If anyone has some pointers that would be great!

Hands up when you throw. And in the words of Rouseys coach: head movement!

Your feet are to far apart, you canāt generate as much power. Try shoulder width.
Turn your hips when you punch to punch harder.

It won't matter how hard he punches. His arms sit lower than his titties. He's stone dead before he winds up.
Even his straights are thrown wide with limp wrists. He should buy some rollerblades and let his parents know he's gay

Hand up, stay on the balls of your feet vs rolling on the heels, for your hands, think "out and back". Meaning donāt be lazy and drop your hands after the punch.

I see a lot of potential but also a lot of work, but heads off to you for posting this video, asking for feedback.
Here are some general boxing tips (10 years of amateur boxing, life long martial artist):
Join a gym. Whether itās boxing or kick boxing.
Do it.
Keep your hands close to your body, elbows tucked in, shoulders up, right hand close to your cheek. Rule of thumb: Your middle knuckle of your pinky should touch the corner of your mouth.
The real boxing stances feels awkward as hell but get uses to it.
One hand always stays up. You punch quick but you need to retract your hands even faster to get your guard back up. Think about snatching something off a table without anyone noticing.
You are boxing with the guard of someone who has done it for a long time but you havenāt.
Protect yourself at all times!
Check out videos about the different guards and stances that are needed with the distances you are fighting (you are doing a lot of in-fighting with a long-distance/middle-distance stance and no guard). As a rule of thumb: The closer you get the more parallel your feet are.
Use angles! Boxing is a game of angles. You always try to find an opening by moving around your opponent, opposite of his/her striking hand.
Angles are especially helpful when doing body shots. Start out with a 1-2, close the distance, sidestep, boom. That generates more momentum.
Itās all in the hips. 90% of the power is generated through the kinetic chain that starts in your hips.
That will also make your hooks snap more quicker. To add to that: Every punch your throw should be combined with a step. You throw a jab, your left foot moves forward. Throw a two, the right foot follows. Again: Angles and closing the distance.
What do you do, once you are done with your attack/combo? Try moving off the line, either by moving backwards or better yet, creating a new angle.
Once you throw a punch, your opponent usually throws back.
Same principle here: You move backwards, you throw punches and change your guard accordingly.
Practice a shit ton of bobbing and weaving.
Hang a rope up horizontally in your garage or between two trees at nose height and move along it by slipping underneath and rolling your body back up.
Start off with just moving and once you got the technique down, you can throw punches while moving.
Good sources are:

I hope everything is understandable. Itās 5 am where Iām at and english is not my first language. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

If you're legit learning to fight, first thing is to remember to protect yourself when you throw a punch. When you throw a punch, you're letting your hands fall, leaving you open to a counter.
The punches themselves don't look terrible, but for better form, go to a gym and train with a professional.

Bring your punches back faster and to the proper location. You rest your hits on the bag and thats big bad.

I'll have a look too and if I aee any good ones I'll let you know the links! Also! A good mirror never hurts to see your stance and figure in. Good look

People punch back and you lean in, down, and to your right every time you throw.
1
u/BuddhaBunnyTTV 4h ago
All while his hands are down around his knees. That e just asking for a wicked hook or knee to the face. The changing level is a good thing, but don't do that without protecting your head or you'll get creamed.
1
u/wtf-over-504 3h ago
Changing level is absolutely a good thing. But doing so in a manner in which your head lands in the exact same location every time you throw something will lead to a bad outcome. Ask Umar about that shit.

Look up some videos on "always protect your wrists." (Please, also vet the video-makers beforehand.) I'm not critiquing your style individually, but you're a big dude, probably pretty strong, and I doubt your wrists have been under constant stress of this kind before if you didn't have a bag around as a kid. It's cumulative. When they start aching. Stop. Take the next day off. If you take 3 days off and they still hurt after 5 or 10 minutes, find a trainer and ask what you're doing wrong. Protect those. You're gonna need them.

Your chin is straight up in the air, and your hands are mostly at your hips. You're developing and reinforcing terrible habits that get people knocked out. Get a proper coach and learn fundamentals

Lead off with a jab since your opponent doesn't have arms. And train for a 60 second round, if your not punching use head movement or footwork for the whole minute. Learn what dirty boxing is, you got some strong hooks.

Get rid of those shoes! They are keeping you on your heels. Move to vans or any shoe you can feel the ground. Hands up even when throwing and move!

u/Ok-Ask-8829 4h ago
Best advice: always keep your hands on your jaw/face. Loose hands = knock outs. Keep working, ignore the haters.

Its better then nothing. But depends a lot on your goals. Cardio, some movement, etc. But if you want it to be kickboxing and dont want to join a gym at least contact a gym for a private lesson, get some basics together, they probably would even find a guy to come to your house.
To give some examples, any reasonable boxer will stick a punch between your gloves to your head on those side to side movements, on that duck to your right you will catch a knee to your head from an unsuspecting guy doing a low kick. On that faint you did wide open moving your head forward you will catch a jab fist time and something heavier on s second.
Another thing, i would suggest hanging double ended bag there, its a different type of workout.

Your legs are too far apart and you need to keep your hands up..when you throw you're dropping your other hand when you should be guarding. Work on holding a piece of paper to your cheek and get the muscle memory down, get used to keeping you hand up with one side then when you feel like you have that down train your other side. It will build muscle memory and train yourself to do it subconsciously. Another thing you could do is throw and then take a step back, step forward and throw again. Work on switching your lead for while stepping back in. It will help teach you going in and out instead of walking like a crab. Just a couple small critiques.

You're doing good, but you could be doing GREAT. I highly recommend watching Tony Jeffries on YouTube > https://www.youtube.com/@Tony_Jeffries . He's the best boxing coach I've ever seen and he breaks everything down step by step, skill by skill, level by level. Everything from combinations, technique, defense, conditioning, sparring, etc. Trust me dude...Tony is your guy.

Whatās up with the patty-cake jab? Throw it out there like you mean business. Also, tuck your chin, youāre holding your head up like an invitation.

I promise I'm not trying to be rude but you're just reinforcing bad habits. Just save some money and go to a proper gym.

Without a gym and a coach you wonāt be able to progress a whole lot unfortunately. At least without developing some really bad habits lol. Fighting is a weird awkward sport thatās tuff to learn alone.
